View Full Version : What car did you trade or sell to get your xA?
BlacKxA81 12-22-2005, 04:19 PM Hey, what car did you trade or sell to get your xA?
I traded in my 2000 VW Jetta GLS in order to get my 2006 BSP xA. I had negative equity because of the trade in, but its worth it in the long run I think.
-Mike
BeQuietAndDrive 12-22-2005, 05:53 PM My 1992 Toyota Celica GT. I kind of regret selling it. Not because of my xA, but just because it was a great car.
mikochu 12-22-2005, 06:29 PM I sold my soul. :(
^^^ haha feel sorry for you man
i sold my 71 plymouth FURY III with a 360cid with 50K org. miles on it
to a guy in sweden via-ebay the dude paid cash, godda like that!!!
phatcyclist 12-22-2005, 07:01 PM 2003 Civic EX Coupe Automatic.
It was a fine car, it was just 2 doors, and an automatic. I like having the 4 door hatch, I get a lot of utility out of it, plus the stickshift is more fun as well. My credit score was around a 680 when I went in the building, and a 710 when I left. All-in-all, I think it was probably the best financial descision I have made yet. My insurance is less, and the gas bill is a little less.
IllNist 12-22-2005, 07:10 PM didnt trade it, i sold it b4 the xA.
89 crx si - i miss it :(
JMD83 12-22-2005, 07:10 PM Traded my 2002 Toyota Echo... 55,000k on the odometer and still wasn't done paying for it...
JSosa 12-22-2005, 08:22 PM a 97' chrysler neon (137,000 miles), THANK GOD i got rid of that peice of &#^@.
neotim 12-22-2005, 08:40 PM '98 Chevy Prizm - 88,000 miles and ran like a dream... suspension sucked and it was totalled because of hail damage... I kept it then sold it myself and made a nice profit b/c of the insurance check for hail damage.
Before that... '89 Civic SI that I should've kept... AWESOME CAR!
uber-xA-RS2 12-22-2005, 08:44 PM 2000 Ford Focus ZTS with 40,100 miles on it the day I traded it in for the RS2. That was my first and last American car. I'm now an import nut. :P
chuey 12-22-2005, 09:37 PM 91Camry 150K miles. I miss that old piece of crap. So comfy to ride in.
TheCor 12-22-2005, 10:14 PM 88 Corolla GTS with 206k miles and a few performance things sold to a friend, he got a hell of a deal too, practically a steal
RubytheScionxA06 12-22-2005, 11:40 PM a White 1996 Mercury Sable with 189,000 mi on it and about to collapse on me.
Got out of it before it was too late, they gave me $600 for it. LOL
lalagimp 12-23-2005, 12:34 AM Sold it to Carmax
2003 Honda Element EX AWD auto with 23k miles- silver
I miss it but the xA was more affordable the way gas prices were so high this past season. As a matter of fact, everything was more expensive after moving to california.
I had my Honda in Virginia/DC, Texas... but it took California to strip it from me.
willmw 12-23-2005, 01:13 AM Traded a 2003 Honda Pilot (wife's car) just before gas prices went straight up, then I sold my 2000 Jeep Wrangler to pay off the remainder of the '06 xA.
Oh...the wife's driving the '05 tC now.
dexter_5000 12-23-2005, 03:51 AM traded a 91 toyota corolla dx with 131k on it auto needed it out of the yard
FASTER345 12-23-2005, 06:06 AM Was going to trade the '95 525iT, but decided that $5000 for a car that cost me over $50,000 was not a smart move. So I kept it, now it's our backup car. Still runs strong, and where else can you get a bimmer with dual sunroofs? Cheers.
omgodzilla 12-23-2005, 08:15 PM I sold my 2002 Mazda Protege5 and I miss its great handling but overall, I think th xA is more suited towards my needs.
xAwahl 12-24-2005, 04:37 PM sold my 2001 Ford Explorer Limited...the thing was loaded out...but at 82000 miles it earned its nickname the "Exploder" the transmission literally fellout of the truck and pulled the driveaxle and the transfer cases along with it...i got 2000 out of it when i traded it in. before that a 99 Range Rover which i should have kept but was scared of 150k miles on it..
htf did the tranny drop out like that???
jwa276 12-24-2005, 04:46 PM 91Camry 150K miles. I miss that old piece of crap. So comfy to ride in.
i traded my 92 camry v6 5spd (SE) which i really really miss- for a camry it was surprisingly fast, and with the bodykit/ suspension work i had done, it was hella fun to drive (and still comfy).
-jon
xAwahl 12-24-2005, 04:50 PM i have no clue...i was driving back to lexington from louisville. and was about 5 miles away from my house when i heard metal scraping the ground. i got out and looked and the whole drvetrain was scraping to ground. The car wouldnt move so we had it towed to the nearest dealership, and then took it to Green's and they gave me 2000 because it had some usable parts off of it.
blimon63 12-25-2005, 06:52 AM i didn't get to trade anythin in, i totalled my 91 240sx , and had to buy another car!! BUT I LOVE MY XA!!!!
ITSAXA 01-31-2006, 06:03 AM I traded in 2 cars.
A 1994 lesabre with 150k miles with a slipping trans and a check engine light glowing.
And a 1986 oldmobile " 98" COUPE,It was older and had nothing wrong with it,except the drivers window glass would not go up or down and the parts were discontinued ,couldnt fix it and it drove me crazy.
Xa was about $100 less to insure then the 2 cars . :D
ecngrl 01-31-2006, 02:51 PM Traded my 2002 Toyota Echo... 55,000k on the odometer and still wasn't done paying for it...
That's so funny, mine was a 02 Echo as well, w/ 63k miles on it, w/ about 4k left to pay on it. Thankfully I was able to trade it in to equal the remainder of the balance, otherwise I would've had negative equity . . . the dealer really helped me out with it. He also said if I had waited 1k more the Echo would've decreased in value by half . . .
How do you like it in comparison to the Echo? I had NO features on the Echo so I'm loving the 06 xa . . .
JMD83 01-31-2006, 08:20 PM Traded my 2002 Toyota Echo... 55,000k on the odometer and still wasn't done paying for it...

I like it a whole lot more. My Echo was a base model 5spd Manual, plus A/C, CD/Cassette AM-FM. Manual windows and locks... My RS1 has so much more. The only thing I miss is the ten million storage compartments of the Echo. Particularly the drawer under the passenger seat! But I manage without them. The sunroof, trac and stability control more than make up for it. Then there's the wheels... I guess they're similar in some ways yet so different. I also miss the lower highway cruising RPM's of my Echo, but the off the line burst from the numerically higher gearing of the xA is a bonus, not to mention the fact that I now have a tach to look at rather than just guess my shift points based on mph and engine sound!
The_Riorden 02-02-2006, 03:45 AM 2003 RSX Type S and boy do i miss it. I wanted to save and buy a house...and thats what i did :)
Lil_Rascals 02-02-2006, 08:09 PM I tried to trade in my 97 ford contour with 88k on it.. But they said there was no way that they'd take it. LOL! Guess I'll just donate it, IF I ever take delivery on my 06 Xa that is....
spark1 02-03-2006, 05:40 PM I traded in a 2000 Subaru outback sport. I really miss the AWD and the confidence it inspired driving in the snow, but I love my '06 xA! I really love having a five speed again and the xA is so fun to blast around in. I was a Subaru guy for a long time, but gas mileage was the big factor. Even with the 2.2l, my Subie was only getting about 22-25mpg. Kinda sucky for a small car.
thatshot 02-04-2006, 08:41 PM I am thinking of trading my 05 BSP xB for a 06 IIP xA!
I am not sure I am making the right choice. Does anyone have any advice for me?
Thanks
white99gt 02-04-2006, 11:08 PM I am thinking of trading my 05 BSP xB for a 06 IIP xA!
I am not sure I am making the right choice. Does anyone have any advice for me?

It depends on why you are trading it in.
I got rid of my other beater when its tranny finally died(94 f150).I could have repaired it but cost vs what it was worth didnt add up.
sikbrik 02-07-2006, 08:13 PM We got rid of our '03 Mini Cooper. It had the sport+ package but was not an "S" model. Handled GREAT! Everyone said, "Aren't you going to miss the performance of the Mini?" Well, based on power to weight ratios, the xA is very close:
Mini Cooper: 115hp at 6000 rpm, 110tq at 4500rpm - 2524lbs
Scion xA: 108hp at 6000 rpm, 105tq at 4200rpm - 2340lbs
I figure a cold air intake and maybe Perrin crank pulley will almost equal out the power. The gearing is better in the xA for acceleration but cruising on the highway was much better in the Mini.
Fuel economy is at least 5mpg better in the xA, and it uses regular where the Mini needed premium.
The interior feels a lot cheaper than the Mini (we had nearly every option) but still feels like a good quality car. Better than I expected. I've added a leather wrapped steering wheel and retrofitted a Mini Cooper shift knob with TWM shifter to bring back some of that sporty feel.
The handling in the xA needs work. I'll probably only go to 16" wheels (Rota subzero in gunmetal with polished lip is what I have my eyes on right now). Sway bars are a must...looking at the Hotchkis stuff. I'll probably do Eibach springs and haven't decided on shocks yet. The rear feels very stiff and bouncy. I read that the stock springs are linear rate so I think the progressive rate lowering springs might actually ride smoother.
Other than that, I really miss cruise control and the multi-position adjustable seats. Seems I just can't get comfortable in these tall stock seats. They at least need an angle adjustment...even the Focus has that!
Anyway, enough complaining. We needed a 4-dr and this car is VERY nice for the price. Happy with the decision. I never expected it to be as cool as the Mini but, in reality, it almost is. Oh, and my payments are $75/mo cheaper!
TaurusGrl 02-08-2006, 08:58 PM I want to trade in my 02 Ford Taurus for a white xA. Hope to be able to do that this summer. I'll have to double up on my payments 7k left to pay. Dealer will give me 4,000 now.
xAdaddy 02-08-2006, 09:17 PM I traded a hypersilver Audi TT - quite a change but guess I'm getting more practical. I mostly drive in stop & go traffic so it was quite a waste to be driving the TT to work. I had it 3 years and really don't miss it. My xA is an auto and so easy to drive.
champagne_supernova 02-16-2006, 01:29 AM I traded in a 2000 Lexus ES300. Great car, tough as nails, but very inefficient and impractical. I haven't gotten my xA yet so i'm sort of second guessing my decision to get rid of the lexus but it's a huge car that drinks a lot of gas, and doesn't have any cargo utility. it's really a people car, not a "stuff" car.
bonus was that I got $11,500 on trade for it (good shape with 70k miles) so I paid about $3500 cash and my new xA is paid off!
demoncatgirl 02-19-2006, 08:59 AM I traded a 1996 Suzuki X90. Its so nice to corner and not feel like I am going to tip over :silly:
i traded a 2005 scion xb for my xa smartest thing i have ever done
Scionpilot 02-23-2006, 12:38 PM I traded in my 2001 Echo, after I messed up the tranny by trying to kill a snake by running over it.
xa-minister 02-23-2006, 03:47 PM 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
charltonsect 02-23-2006, 04:19 PM will be trading a 1999 Subaru Forester
Xa_egg06 02-23-2006, 09:17 PM i sold my 99 civic hatchback and man i miss it so much but my xa is so much nicer
designed24 02-23-2006, 09:22 PM my 5spd 1992 325is bimmer got totaled (f350 hit me!!) and i bought my 06 xA 5spd. I miss the raw power but I got a much more efficient and reliable car. i was sick of paying 3k every 4 months on the bimmer just to keep it running/safe.
JSosa 02-26-2006, 04:19 AM i traded a 2005 scion xb for my xa smartest thing i have ever done
you traded an xB for an xA?!?! That crazy! Ive never heard anyone do such a thing. I would really like to know why
designed24 02-26-2006, 05:19 AM prolly cuz the xB looks like a mail truck.. :) jk
luckorskill007 02-26-2006, 12:41 PM 96 honda civic with custom smoky grey paint job :) 1k for it lol
san20176 02-26-2006, 05:16 PM I traded my half donut to get my 2006 Balck Pearl xA. :silly:
Epitrochoid 02-28-2006, 03:26 PM I traded my 2004 RX8. Sounds crazy but the RX8 got 16 mpg, tickets, high insurance and it was worthless in the winter. Also, the kids fit better in the xA.
xola3que 03-01-2006, 08:58 PM I couldn't trade or sell it...the damn head gasket leaked.
It was a 97 Honda Civic.
Good thing the xA was already out on the market...otherwise i coulda be with a Neon or a Focus :nope:
99SVT 03-02-2006, 10:26 PM Sold nothing, bought it in addition to. The '99 Lightning was killing me on gas, and I wanted to tear it down and put a built motor in it, so I bought the '06 xA. The savings in gas alone is gonna pay for this car (is is a car??)
dxt178 03-03-2006, 06:02 PM '01 Zinc Yellow Ford Focus ZX3. "Yellowjacket" I really liked that car but at about 46k miles the auto tranny was slipping and starting to go, on top of all of the other repairs I had to do to it. Cracked thermo housing, rear wheel bearings, rear brake cylinders, rear shocks, fogging headlights, and many more fun times... but it was a fun car to drive.
I really like my xA, if only it had the balls of my ZX3, but gas milage and overall I like it alright.
MightyMiteXa 03-04-2006, 02:38 PM Traded in my '98 VW Jetta GT. Frackin' dealership would only give me $2700 for it. But I would have taken anything they offered for my '05 Xa. I had to have it. Scions for life now.
MyAntsRMarching 03-11-2006, 08:57 PM I sold my 98' Ford Explorer XLT to a friend of mine for $3,500.00 the dealship would only give me $2,000.00 for it... I just put in a brand new Ford transmission and 4 brand new tires. But, I got a 2006 Scion xA.
Cheers,
Chris
Sliphorn 03-14-2006, 10:38 PM I traded a very cool 1989 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible....(black)...
For a very cool 2006 Scion xA...(black)...
:silly:
lalagimp 03-15-2006, 07:55 PM Traded in my '98 VW Jetta GT. Frackin' dealership would only give me $2700 for it. But I would have taken anything they offered for my '05 Xa. I had to have it. Scions for life now.
I traded Tiny for an 02 Jetta GLS :lalala:
special_k810 03-16-2006, 12:09 AM Traded in my 95 Ford Taurus. Got a whopping $200 for it. Should have sold it to CarMax.
brownKIDDnate 03-16-2006, 01:07 AM this is my first post on SL so hello all

Paid straight up. My other car was in another state. :(
Geotpf 04-05-2006, 12:29 AM 1997 white Toyota Tercel two door with damaged paint (had little black dots all over it, I think from ash in the air from those fires SoCal had a few years back), minor front end damage, and a A/C compressor that needed recharging
The dealer would only give me $1,000 for it, so I sold it to a used car lot for $1,500.
supercouple02 04-05-2006, 01:32 AM My xa was a graduation gift from my parents.
Gotta love'em for that!
willee51 04-08-2006, 04:16 PM
Posted my 2005 Nissan Frontier 2-wd King Cab on Autotrader today! Want a 2006 XA.
xa_corgi 04-11-2006, 06:36 PM I traded in my 99 Saturn SC2 three door coupe. at 88k. It was starting to get pretty rough running, and like most saturns, was burning about a quart of oil every 500 miles or so.
my xA is a light, airy, comfortable, refined joy to drive compared to that old saturn. On the plus side I'll give the saturn props for no major breakdowns or .. any trouble at all over those years and miles.
Garzasgirlie 04-14-2006, 04:15 PM i traded my 93 toyota tercel.... i miss that thing. wish i couldve had both but it was about to blow
xABOYPUERTORICO 04-19-2006, 10:37 AM I sold my good loking 94 bluegreen kia sephia to my bro in $800 an am gowin to sell mi cute 91 mazda b2200 pluscab for 5,000 obo!!!
LilJet 04-20-2006, 03:28 AM u kno i was really happy that i traded in my 95 Honda Civic EX, for a SCION XA...why because the SCION XA look so pretty! :P
surfcity40 04-20-2006, 07:03 AM i walked up to the counter and emptied my pocket of change, a paper clip and a red and white marble. the guy really looked at the marble intently and after thinking for a bit he handed me the xA....
(not really, but the heading reminded me of a very old heart strings pulling crackerjack commercial...at least my memory is telling me it was crackerjack).
Zillon 04-20-2006, 01:11 PM Well, not really traded in or sold, but gave it up.
Anyways, I used to drive a '92 Isuzu Trooper. Lifted 2", 32" BFG's, exhaust... went anywhere I asked it to go, even when stock.
Still love it to death, but the gas mileage & maintenence is too much for me as a HS student. I haven't gotten a solid 1000 miles out of it since last fall.
Twister1680 04-20-2006, 05:13 PM Hey guys, I don't get my scion until early next month, but my dad is buying my xA for me in return for services rendered. Pretty good deal on my part.
werewolf1777 04-25-2006, 05:00 PM I cried a little, then went to the Toyota/Scion dealer and traded in my 2002 Xterra. I loved that thing. I still do  !
But I couldn't handle paying all that cash at the pump. That thing got crappy milage! I am way happier driving the xA. With the Xterra I almost felt like I was abusing the environment- I had no need at all for the 4x4 or the cargo space, especially since I moved to NY. Nowdays I no longer do winter driving on gravel/dirt roads or drive thru the woods, or take groups of people out on Friday nights. Now I just go to college and work. So I really did not need the SUV. At all.
Finding a car that was not expensive, cool-looking, and one that got great milage made the decision to drop the gas-guzzler a lot easier!
xA-llent 05-03-2006, 10:50 PM I'm giving up...well...I'm trying to sell my 2001 Grand Am GT. The dealership actually said they didn't want the car! I can't trade it in, even tho it's low mileage and in great shape. They stopped making them, and now it's depreciating to the tune of about $80 per DAY. So, I'm having to sell it on my own, with no prospects at all. But my xA will be ready Monday!
PopfulMail 05-06-2006, 01:36 AM I don't know if the $350 I got for my 97' Ford Aspire counts as much of a trade.. but yeah, I was damn glad to get rid of the thing after 7 years.
93' buick lesabre
the America's moms' car.
dang that car was big
but it was soo classic and i loved it
kirkjerk 05-08-2006, 07:57 PM Green '96 Civic Hatchback. Not a bad car, peppy.
Sometimes I miss its happy green color, especially in the rain, but I think on a car that already looks as distinctive as the xA, it would be too much.
I really like have four doors now though...it's a lot more neighborly, not to mention to shove a bookbag in.
jpjxa 05-09-2006, 04:00 AM I traded a 2001 Ford Escort SE 4-door sedan. It was a decent driving and reliable car, but I decided I wanted something more unique and fun, while still getting good fuel economy. The Scion XA has exceeded all my expectations and I have been very pleased with my choice.
STI2xA 05-14-2006, 06:17 AM Selling 2006 STI (white) sad - miss the performance rush and AWD
Got 2006 xA (p. white) happy again, cool car with great potential
Hey, what car did you trade or sell to get your xA?
I traded in my 2000 VW Jetta GLS in order to get my 2006 BSP xA. I had negative equity because of the trade in, but its worth it in the long run I think.
-Mike
indigo_xA_06 05-14-2006, 03:24 PM trading in my 99 pontiac grand am with 81000 miles on it. i'm getting 2500 for it cause i haggled with the trade-in people. LOL. the first offer i got was 1500, then went to a different dealer and got 2000 and said i wouldn't take the deal unless it was 2500 and they said "well, we don't want to lose you as a customer, so we'll give you 2500"
XPRESSCION 05-16-2006, 12:16 AM I traded in my 1995 Ford Probe SE with 121,000 k for only $250.00 LOL I know I could of gotten a grand for it on the street but it was a Ford with "Ford Problems" so I wanted to get rid of it ASAP. But Scion dealership stated it had "Transmission problem" and I already knew that once I walked in so the dealership probably made least 800.00 off of it behind my back LOL
northtouk 05-22-2006, 03:45 PM `97 Jeep Wrangler, only gets about 2X to 3X the mileage. Will want to get a jeep later again though... One thing I like about the Xa is the seating very high like a wrangler nice headroom to (6'1'').
mdtjr 05-25-2006, 10:44 AM A 2004 Toyota PreRunner SR5 v-6. Due to bad gas mileage 15-17 mpgs highway.
xa-minister 05-25-2006, 11:00 AM hey northtouk...you are in lexington too...awesome
kaotic1 05-27-2006, 05:53 PM I just bought my XA two days ago and this is my first post here. I traded in my 1999 Chrysler 300M. The car was nice but it had 109k miles in it and it didnt have much life left in it. I miss it because it was a great car but it was definteily worth getting rid of.
kalaiwa 05-27-2006, 07:37 PM 95 Toyota Xtra cab. I miss the smoothness of the shifter. I think it's a difference between rear wheel and front wheel drive. Also, used to be able to carry 5 bikes in the back. Now I can barely fit one!
Looking forward to getting great gas mileage.
george_da_2nd 06-15-2006, 03:16 PM um a 95 ford taurus with the supercharger off a tbird on it it was pretty quick but the piston rings were on the way to the scrap yard it was bl owing blue smoke hehe and my compression tests verifyed my fear i got 600 for it LOL
