View Full Version : xB Exhaust question
Scottie_Do 04-21-2004, 04:00 AM So I'm researching exhausts and I keep reading that most of them say that they are axle back. My question is with my volkswagen, my exhaust was from the cat back and I'm wondering if its the same type of application? I've only seen one site that listed some exhausts at cat back but they didn't say they had any that were axle back. Any help is appreciated :D
DenZinz 04-21-2004, 04:02 AM Magnaflow has a cat-back for the scion xb.

Scottie_Do 04-21-2004, 04:06 AM Is there a difference in power? Or is it just a longer pipe?
DenZinz 04-21-2004, 04:07 AM i felt better throttle response and overall more useful torque.
Scottie_Do 04-21-2004, 08:27 PM Are you comparing that to axle back exhausts or just stating the difference from stock?
Anyone know the difference or whether or not you should go with a certain type?
Toy_xbox 04-21-2004, 08:46 PM I had a TRD axle back and then won a RS*R axle back exhaust it was a very noticable upgrade from the TRD with throttle response and style.

Scottie_Do 04-21-2004, 08:53 PM but is there a distinct difference in performance when you compare an axle back exhaust vs. cat back exhaust?
I appreciate the responses but I just need to figure this out so I know what I should look for when I decide to buy an exhaust.
Toy_xbox 04-21-2004, 08:56 PM Maybe this will help...

spillz 04-21-2004, 10:05 PM I believe a catback, will be better then an axel back. The majority of times with any other vehicle people would choose a cat back over an axel back, due to the fact that the catback is basically the whole exhaust, which gives a bigger diameter of piping through out it and the axel back would be stock piping behind the 'axel' and new sized piping after it.. Just make sure you get the right size piping which most people would say should be 2 and 1/4 inch for a NA engine.
If a company like greddy, or tanabe, or something does not have a full catback exhaust system, Ill most likely get one custom mandrel bent, with a high flow cat, and a speed trap muffler.
Scottie_Do 04-21-2004, 10:37 PM Thanks spillz that was the answer I was looking for... thats what I was thinking but I'd rather have heard it from someone else.
scionspecialistvegas 04-22-2004, 02:07 AM is that a speed trap or SUPER TRAP, with the removable baffles for tuning. You should check out www.precisionmuffler.com. Gabe has a dyno proven manifold back exhaust system, this system has a high flow cat and 2 1\4 piping. It is made with all magnaflow exhuast components, and with gabe system you don't get a service engine light.I have his axle back and it rev the engine up quicker has better bottom end, and it doesn't have that ricer sound. Just more food for thought . Bill Turner dba Scion Specialties
Scottie_Do 04-22-2004, 03:10 AM Do you guys think it is worth it to spend around $150 + for a cat back exhaust or do you guys think the axle back will work fine. I wonder if the larger tubing will make that much of a difference for such a small motor.

you can check this out http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11098&highlight=thanks+stylis+crxb
I've always done it from the cat back with my other cars, so I just bought a universal magnaflow and a resonator/glasspack from stylis and had a shop here in socal repipe with 2-1/4. From stock to this setup I did notice a lil more pep from my box. I think its worth it to go from the cat-back. Go PM Stylis and see what he can do for you. (shameless plug  )
Hope this helps,

ok you can go for a cat back system, but there is still gona be tha lag of power that you will feel after the install. Thats just how the motor is, so to get the most power out of your scion. I have found that the manifold back system with a hedder is whats needed to get the optimum power. This is what you want if you really want the most power. PM me for more details, because your going from a VW to a scion and I know that you miss that throttle responce. :D

Thanks for the plug!
spillz 04-22-2004, 10:27 PM Yah super trap not speed trap, I had lost the word when i was typing that, then i guess i thought of speed for some reason. I really like how you can add an remove the discs in order to achieive minumum or maximum air flow/sound for different occasions.
