View Full Version : Suspension problems...blown shocks/struts....s-techs...etc..

I've been running s-tech for a year on stock shocks/struts...i don't doa whole lot of daily dribving, maybe on average, 10 miles a day. But i guess after a year, that adds up

Here are my problems:

1. I've noticed that the suspension has become more harsh. It seemed like it was all of a sudden.

2. My left rear sits about a half inch lower than the right. I never really noticed this before, but now it looks more obvious.

I'm thinking...struts and shock blown, but will that make one side lower than the other in the rear?

Or can the s-tech be saggin more on one side, but I've never really noticed it before.

Will a blown rear shock cause things to sag?


Thanks for any info...I'm a newb when it come to these things and appreciate any help.

Your shocks/struts shouldn't make any difference on how the car sits unless the shock is binding.

shocks have nothing to do with ride height
unless they are binding or similarly damaged

maybe a spring fell out???

thanks people...I did a more extensive search, and it would seem that this is a problem with some owners of s-techs andother springs....Several people wer e complaining that the passenger rear is sitting about 1////4 to 1/2 inches lower than the driver's rear

several explainations


1. driver's side settle/sag more due to driver weight on that side for those who don't ride with passngers. One sl member put a 50 lbs and bag in the passger rear seat, drove around for a few months and he said things evened out.

2. Rear spring installed incorrectly.....apparantly, things didn't line up in the spring cup, and by twisting it into it's proper place, solved the problem

3. Tire pressure

4. ALignment problems

5. If one of the front springs is not right, it's going to effect the opposite side rear.


ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......I think I'm going to live with it for now.......just one of those things..................

but I think I do need to get new shocks.......more than a year and a half on stockers with s-techs...I'm sure something is wrong with the shocks.

I've just made a strange discovery...

If parked on level ground...if you turn the wheel to full lock one way, it makes the same side rear seem to go a little higher...anyone else confirm this?

that would be a result of the caster the front wheels have. As you steer, the wheels jack up the front of the car a bit, usually with the inside front jacking a bit more than the outside front. So what you observed is expected behaviour.

i have 1yr9months on S-techs and stock dampeners
42,xxx miles so far
they are "softer" than they were...but nowhere near blown
yours might be, i know we don't drive on the same roads or the same style
so comparing anything is useless
save up for coilovers and you will not have height issues unless you create them.....heh..heh.......
