Default I/H/E upgrades to F/I Question

I want to do a turbo or a supercharger in the future but would like to do the I/H/E upgrades first.

My question is if i want to do a turbo later on would it be worth it to upgrade the I/H/E or it would be a waste of money? Is there anyway i can upgrade these parts and still have them while turboing?

Cause i know if you go turbo the intake is useless.... I dont want to spend money on the parts than 6 months i would have to take them out and upgrade them to turbo parts. Thanks

With turbo you can't keep the header or intake. You get a manifold with the kit to replace it. You can keep the exhaust but it may be better to wait to pick a more efficient exhaust to work with the turbo. The supercharger will work with the header and exhaust not the intake unless you get the umnitza intake. Honestly if your going boost so soon just wait until you decide which way your going and buy your parts accordingly.

You should be able to use your intake filter with the Turbo Kit but the piping will be garbage.
I had a K&N air filter on my '95 civic before I put on the turbo kit, and I just reinstalled that when I installed the turbo. Much better than the yellow foam cone that greddy gives you in the kit.
Just need a 3" to 2-1/2" (depending on the piping) adapter you can get at performance shop or local hardware store.
Header is useless if you're going turbo, and is quite expensive so I'd hold off until you know what you want to do.

p.s. Turbo is much more fun than super. (IMO)

"p.s. Turbo is much more fun than super. (IMO)"

This is def true. But supercharger is more reliable and less prone to blowing up yur motor due to overboosting

get your header done first before going with TRD s/c, if you dont. and swap later with the sc let me know il tell you how to swap it right.

its time consuming. its painfull at times

I strongly suggest that you keep a final setup in mind, and consistently work towards that.

Don't waste your money on something that you're going to have to resell later. This just gets in the way of the final setup.

If you want a turbo, then get an S-pipe back exhaust setup. The turbo manifold will bolt into this. Pulleys and a larger throttle body will come in handy. You can easily do any free or extremely cheap mods (see GFI) in the meantime as well.

If you're getting a super, you can add a header to the above. Adding a supercharger takes a little less planning, but I'd wait on the pulleys to see if the belt size is compatible.

I did the turbo charger route on the civic. While it was fast and fun and a rush when ever I passed 4k rpms, it was def. unreliable. I burned out bolts for the downpipe as well as the downpipe gaskets. Needed new exhaust mani. nuts to hold down the pressure, as well as a copper gasket for the exhaust mani. Let's see, blew off the bolt that held the valve cover on when racing, so we replaced the gasket for the valve over and spark plugs, as well as replacing all the bolts....
A lot more could have gone wrong with turbo, but IMO turbos are just a headache unless you're driving a 'from the factory turbo car.' ie. sti, evo VIII.
When I get my tc in the next few months, I already have plans to do the supercharger route. no way i'm going turbo again.

Hey rapierTL what kind of motor did you have in your civic. I'm assuming it was a d-series motor or you did a swap for a b-series motor. Honda motors generally dont handle boost very well due to higher compression ratios but the only two that I could think of off the top of my head is the b20 block from the CR-V & integra LS and the K24 from the TSX might be a decent engine for boosting elthough not the best. I haven't dont much research on the k24a so I'm onlying assuming that it'll take boost well so dont take my word for it.

For the most part the K24 is also in the same boat, because it has higher compression. But I also have not done enough research to make a seriour comment one way or another.

Now back on topic, I'm also a fan of the TRD Supercharger, so I say go for it
