Default **Alphawerk header install

How many people with the alphawerk header used both of the brackets at the bottom of the header? I altered the brackets and got new bolts so i wuld reuse them. I would assume that it would keep some of the weight off of the head and minimize cracking in the long run.

How did you alter them? Do you have any pics? I was thinking about getting this header. It would really help. Thanx

Does anyone have a pic of the brackets or where the header connects to the "S" pipe?

if you're talking about the black (mine are black) side brackets that connect to the header, no i didnt use them. the header seemed like it didnt fit so snugly to the s-pipe, even when the spring bolts were fully compressed. when the car ran there was no sound of exhaust leak so i guess the gasket did its job. i actually removed the side brackets. it wasnt hard but also wasnt easy since the bolts are placed in odd positions. reason i took it out was cuz i thought there would be some issues with vibration in there. that might have lead to "rasp". after the install i had absolutely no rasp. my header sounds great!

I used the driver side bracket.. Had to mod it with bolt though.. The stock bracket wont bolt on to the alphawerks header because the hole isn't threaded... couldn't get the passanger side bracket on so I left it off..

The brackets provide additional support for the header. The stock header is designed to be rigidly mounted to the motor and the rest of the exhaust system is designed as a floating unit. Without the bottom brackets installed... the 4 pipes welded to the flange act as the only support for the header. Hang an "S" pipe and the rest of the exhaust on the end and you're asking the mounting flange to do a lot. DC feels that their header is strong enough to do away with the extra mounting brackets and more than likely the AW header is strong enough as well. IMO it's better to be safe than sorry so I'll try my best use the bottom mounts when I install mine. Even if I can only use one of the brackets it's still better than nothing.
