What alarm works with the factory remote
Any recommendations on what alarms work with the factory keyless remote. I would really like to maintain the factory remote and have a good alarm just for some added protection.

Those are great prices, doubt you will find it lower anywhere esle. I usually get them shipped from my buddies shop and pay about that at his cost!
These are simple yet effective basic alarms, very reliable and pretty easy to install (relatively compared to seperate alarms)
And, they are far better than the weak factory, overpriced toy alarm.

do you happen to know if the hornet one is the exact same one as the viper one

from the looks of the two site it seems to have the same exact things except for the LED.
there is a local shop that will install the hornet for 125 while the viper would cost 220

The Hornet and the Viper are two different lines from the same manufacturer... Aside from a few aesthetic differences, they are essentially the same....
And I don't believe there are any remote start options for the OEM keyless setup.... but I could be wrong.

The OEM alarm is not really much of an alarm sorry to say, way over priced and not much good. Though the Hornet/Viper unit is not ultra sofisticated it is still a better alternative and less money.
You would remove the factory alarm if upgrading to anything else.

ok.. so if I were to pick up the hornet alarm, how difficult is it to install? I'm pretty crafty, but not sure about cutting into a 8 day old car's harness!
BTW. Mine is a stock 5sp Xb. Is there a good site to get wiring info?

OEM Keyless Entry add on security alarms have a Lock and Unlock trigger, Tapping it on the unlock and unlock wire ( harness by the driver's kick panel) is easy but it has disadvantages;
- Forcing the Door Key will disable the alarm
- Pressing the unlock button after a force entry will also disable it
A proper Tap on the lock and unlock trigger should be on the remote module harness so only the remote can enable/disable the alarm. What wire is it? I hope somebody will have an answer other than ditch the OEM Keyless Entry and get an aftermarket one.

Hi guys, can anyone recommend good alarm installers in the SF Bay Area? I'm looking to get a Hornet 727T installed in my new tC but would like to choose an installer that's had experience working on other tCs. Any suggestions?

at the bottom left of the page you can enter a zip code to find the nearest DEI authorized installer.

yea this is what i want to do. I dont want to carry around some bulky remote really. But I would rather keep my stock key as the lock/unlock. So this http://www.directed.com/security/hornet/horn_ke.asp system just plugs in fine and lets you use the stock key to arm(lock doors), and unarm(unlock doors) like normal? Would the panic button set off/clear the alarm though?
If not I am almost tempted to get a 2way alarm system because I have a cheap $100 one on my daily driver so I'd have keyless entry and autostart and they work great. I'd get a little better one if I went that route though since it is the tC :-D
