View Full Version : Injen CAI installed....but wait...
Flintlanta 12-31-2005, 01:32 AM Well I got my Injen CAI installed the other day and it's working great. The thing is, mine looks nothing like anyone elses Injen CAI that i've seen.

Unlike the CAI in that picture, my pipe continues down into the fender and the filter isn't visible.
I'm hoping that having the filter visible is just a personal preference, and not the way it's supposed to go.
Sorry i'm just a worrier...that's why my friends call my whiskers.
WeDriveScions 12-31-2005, 01:40 AM There are two styles/formats you can install with the Injen Intake....
One is ShortRam, like the one you posted above, the other in CAI, like the one you had installed....
Mine is chrome, but same deal

Look Familiar?
Yea the pic you posted was the short ram version, you have the option to choose, short or full cai. 2 in 1 type deal.
05-RS1 12-31-2005, 02:56 AM lol..dude i bet you had a "duh" moment after this post but yeh thats a short ram in the pic. cold air continues through the fender
Kenshin 12-31-2005, 03:35 AM yeah thats the point of a "cold air intake", where is it going to get the cold air from? Definetly not the engine bay, but from the fender!
VinceW_87 12-31-2005, 03:44 AM How long did it take you to install it? Did you have prior experience or was it a first-time deal? I've been wanting to install my CAI but i'm too afraid of screwing up.
WeDriveScions 12-31-2005, 04:01 AM It's quite easy.... I believe he has his installed by a shop....
It's best to take off your front bumper, and the plastic inside your driver's side wheel, along with taking that wheel off.... it gives you much more room to play around with... all the rest is just following the instructions.
There are guides online here if you do a search about removing your front bumper.... (It's actually not that tough)
joey_tc 12-31-2005, 05:27 AM I just installed mine on thursday and it took about 3 hours because i was following the paper instructions that came with my kit, didn't have to take the front bumper off, just the the front driver side wheel.
WeDriveScions 12-31-2005, 05:29 AM I wanted more room.... 3 hours.... at least you took your time and did it right... always good to do it yourself.
aacordon 12-31-2005, 09:27 AM 3 hours wow, took me 45 min, i jsut decided to take my wheel off, pull out the bumper a lil and loosen the fender, to slip the intake in. And it was my first time doing it too. Did it my own way cuz the intructions i got were impossible to read. Thing sounds very nice especcially in the higher rpms. Cops at my work followed me for 20 min cuz of it, but left me alone cuz i kept rpm under 3k (stock sound almost). Dont rev engine near cops is a helpful tip.
45 min as well, pulling off the tire and fender liner. Quickest and fastest way period.
Magnus213 12-31-2005, 01:14 PM I'm doing this install in a couple hours, I'll be going short ram until I can find more time to convert it over to cold air.
I assume that I should still disconnect the negative battery cable? And how long should I let the car sit and idle to allow the MAF to adjust?
DynomyteSW 12-31-2005, 02:19 PM for i diddnt even take the tire off just cut the wheel the left and loosend the plastic fender liner .. i'll admit it would have been easier if i removed the wheel lol
gjpjr84 12-31-2005, 03:34 PM even if you are jst doing the SRI, you still need to disconnect the battery and let it idle fo 5-10 min. then drive it around for a bit. and check you connections.
and yes your rpms will start off at the 1.5 range and drop to .7/.8k, that is normal.
and the bumper is easy as f**k to take off. like ten screws and clips then pull.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.
Flintlanta 01-05-2006, 09:55 PM Thanks for the info guys...I feel stupid.
Anyway, I had the dealer install it. I'm not risking anything anymore if you're familiar with my headlight tale... :lalala:
gjpjr84 01-05-2006, 10:03 PM ?? are you the one that melted yours???
honestly that was more like a freak series of events, this car is really easy to work with, if I can mod this car then anyone can.
i get were you are coming from, just take some time to reboot, and get back on that horse.
I'm throwing on the CAI pipe tomorrow. I'm sure it'll sound quieter then the current way I'm running the Injen (SRI), but more hp > noise.
So just take off the driver side wheel, take off the plastic crap, and I'll be good to go huh?
gjpjr84 01-06-2006, 02:00 AM hey! that plastic crap protects your filter from water!
but yea, take off that plastic crap called the wheel well liner and the other plastic crap called the front bumper.
I believe I don't have to take off the front bumper
gjpjr84 01-06-2006, 02:40 AM you have to relocate the ground wire to screw in the support for the intake tube.
yes it is possible but you risk something maybe going wrong (cause your not following the install instructions) and most likely scratching the freak out of the tube.
Ah I see. Well I'll have to see what happens tomorrow then.
Hopefully the install should go smooth.
OneLiterPeter 01-06-2006, 03:43 PM Hopefully the install should go smooth.

gjpjr84 01-06-2006, 09:52 PM dont listen to him
OneLiterPeter 01-07-2006, 01:26 PM dont listen to him
:P sorry... couldn't resist.
To be completely honest... my install went pretty well. The only part that was a pain was snaking the secondary tube in from the fender well. I had to push pretty hard to get it to pop through the hole. Other than that it was easy and a really nice DYI project.
WeDriveScions 01-07-2006, 02:22 PM ^ Nice to hear.... You'll love the sound....
