Looked at Jettas and A4s for months, bought TC in a day
So, I've been looking at buying a used Jetta or A4 for the last couple months, put money down on a few cars, had them inspected and always ended up backing out of the deal because I wasn't fully convinced.
One day I brought in my 99 Tacoma to my Toyota dealership for maintenance and a red RS1 TC sitting on the lot caught my eye. I test drove it, and liked it right off the bet, but it was an automatic so I drove to another dealership which happened to have an Azure Pearl manual TC in stock. I test drove it and knew right away that we would get along. The same day I traded in my truck, signed all paper work and took the TC home.
I started with some basic mods, mostly audio and interior, and there is lots more to come. Anyway, here is a pic after a fresh layer of wax:

^^^ Me three!
Nice AP! Congrat's.
I too looked at a lot of other cars - I'm a tad older (no jokes from you jokers) and could buy pretty much any car I wanted (only saying that to make a point) and I got the tC!
I was really impressed when I saw the tC and test drove it. I got the auto due to major time sitting in traffic, but I can't believe how many people stop me or roll-down their windows to ask about my car!
It's pretty funny considering that all the other cars I was looking at were a lot more money...
Drive safe.

They are catchy cars. I wasnt even looking for a car when I saw the tCs on the lot. Went to "just check them out in curiosity" (yeah... good way to blow some money
) and ordered one the next day
They had been out for about 4 months when I first saw them. I still get a lot of looks and comments on it. I never really considered the AP (I was dead set on blue for my next car... and never looked at it closely) so I didnt really look at it. I saw one later and was impressed at the color. They have a very distinct look in person. Enjoy!
The antenna is fine by the way.. I barely notice when someone has changed it. The short ones are cooler... but not a stand out feature.

No doubt a great car...but I'll have to put my foot down when comparing a tC to a Audi. I just recently sold my tC after having tinkering with it for a year. I loved the fact the tC was fresh on the market...new and full of potential...but nothing is nicer then having a German car. So much so that after I bought the A4, I went and bought a GTi 1.8t as a daily driver.
And thought I still have friend here in the Scion community, theres always a soft spot for them in my heart. The people make this community something very original!
Great car...you won't be disappointed!

No relation to audiobahnTC here. Audis are on the top of the list of my favorite cars and I love driving on the Autobahn. Hence the name.
BigKid, I agree with you, nothing (at least IMHO) compares to the look and feel of a German car, especially when it comes to interior.
I was in a similar position like slboettcher, looking for a car that I really like. A while back we got my wife an A4 and I immediately wanted one for myself as well. The TC won me over in the end though. Plus, Scion comes with a tight community that gives great feedback and suggestions.
Happy New Year!

^^^ True!
I spent a LOT of time online before buying anything.
I don't care about stuff like the antenna, but I do care about options, reliability, etc.
And honestly, the stereo with iPod integration was a key selling point for me (yes, I know you can buy a dozen aftermarket HUs with this, but I'm not a big fan of aftermarket stereos as they seem to invite thieves and most just look to "add-on" for my tastes.
Enjoy the tC - I am but this SoCal rain is killing me! I have had two days of a clean car in the sun in two-weeks

bigkid and audibahn, fellow audi lovers. my previous two cars were audis. audis clearly are superior vehicles, but the tC is not meant to compete with any audi....the prices reflect that.
when vag made the new jetta and A4 so similar in styling i was kinda ticked....not a fan of the styling of the new A4. i was looking at an few year old S4....coincedentally, i took on a second car payment. at "new car" time, i bought the tC instead of the S4 and saved a heck of a lot per month (enough to cover the second car payment at no additional per month outlay and have dinner out money). tell you what though, when i'm no longer making two car payments, an S4 avant (avant=wagon)is next up for me.
for the few unfamiliar, here's a linkie(can look at the 400 plus hp RS4 as well
the S4 avant:
340 hp with 6-speed manual transmission and quattroŽ all-wheel drive
DOHC all-aluminum 90-degree 4.2 liter V8 with 5 valves per cylinder, variable valve timing and 2-stage intake manifold
Displacement: 4.2 liters (254 cu. in.)
Bore: 3.33 in.
Stroke: 3.65 in.
Compression ratio: 11.0:1
Horsepower (SAE net): 340 @ 7000 rpm
Torque: 302 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm
0-60 mph in seconds: 5.4
Top track speed: 155 mph
EPA fuel economy estimates (city/highway)*: 15/21
in the mean time i love the tC....a fun car.
performance lurks a year or so away though.

I will have to concur with surfcity40,
The price of and A4 and tC are night and day, and for those that are new to the car market, the tC is a great entry car. The tC has potential to being something more without breaking the bank. That was the intial selling point for me being where I was financially. Growing up I knew that I'd be driving a perfectly engineered car among the ranks of MBenz and BMW...but for the mean time...I'd be working my way there.
But I always told myself that whenever I started making the big money...I'd be moving up to bigger and better things. And thats when I start looking at A4's again, with such a promising platform to work with, I could virtually go in any direction with performance and styling options. But I'm no fool, I shopped the market for the right deal...just as I had with any other car before this. And I'll agree the new direction that VAG went with the restyling of the B7 and A5 isn't something that I not totally for...so I went with a B6 A4 / 5spd / Quattro...but I really wanted a Avant wagon
but I couldn't hold out long enough for one. They are few and far between down here where I'm at.
Anyway...not to jack this person thread, you made a great choice nonetheless...a fun car to mod...and even nicer car to drive!
