I thought the brake pad should last at least 20K miles. Anyone has recommendation for an aftermarket brake pads that are better than stockers?

Unless you are really using the brakes hard a lot having excessive pad wear in less than 10K miles is not likely. There is an off chance that there might be something defective about the pads that is making them wear quickly, but more likely the mechanic is trying to generate some extra business for himself. It's a pretty common dodge, since even if the mechanic gets caught at it he can claim it was a "judgement call". The only way to check the brake pad is to remove the wheel. Why was the mechanic fiddling with your wheels when he was supposed to be doing an oil change?

When I last checked my pads, at 22,500 miles, about half the friction material was left. This is by actual measurement. I expect to be changing them somewhere around 36,000 miles.

Thanks for the comments guys. He was fiddling my wheels because i was also there for a safety inspection. There's a high chance that he just want to generate some more biz. The pad can prolly last another 10k.

How about the Axxis Metal Masters? Or are those strictly a race pad?

Metal Master is not a race pad but has more performance than the Deluxe Plus. It sits in the middle of the Axxis street pad lineup between the Deluxe plus at the low end and the Ultimate at the higher end of performance. It has low dust and noise with low rotor wear and has more bite than the OEM pads.

It depends on what you are doing with the car. For aggressive street driving, something like the Axxis Ultimate is great but is on the dusty side. If you wash your car regularly you wont have any complaints as the performance is very good. If you just want to cruise and have little to no dust than the Deluxe plus is probably the best choice.

Slotted or drilled rotors will add some bite to the system but it will be minimal compared to what the pads will offer. It would definitely look nicer behind your wheels but would not add all that much in the way of performance.
