Hey, I tried searching but came up with nothing. I was wondering how many pounds of boost the TC can handle without having to replace the internals. Or until they blow up from all the pressure. Thx in advance.

View Full Version : How many lbs? 06smith 01-02-2006, 11:13 PM Hey, I tried searching but came up with nothing. HighlanderMac 01-02-2006, 11:18 PM Most likely right around 14lbs, but at constant usage it wont last too long... but it will safely hold 14-15lbs, above that and you are looking at some problems with your intake manifold. 06smith 01-02-2006, 11:23 PM So lets say I run 12 lbs for regular street driving. Im not looking for a lot of power, just some more for the top end, since the TC is a little sluggish in that area. I was shooting for around 250 to 300 give or take at the wheels. Could I do that or would I have to start upgrading internals? hPower 01-03-2006, 02:28 AM If you tune properly, I would think 12psi should be very usable on a stock block. And I really think you can get to the 250HP range without having to go to 12psi. There are a few guys around here that have really taken charge of the whole tuning process so just try to keep up with what they find out and share with us. Joe_Dezod 01-03-2006, 04:19 AM 8.7psi made 244whp and 255wtq with a catalytic converter and a wastegate plumbed back into the exhaust. If you dump the wastegate and cat, at 12psi you can make over 300whp and 300wtq. kungpaosamuraiii 01-03-2006, 05:40 AM At 10 psi you should be at or around 300 whp. Experimentally, that is also around where Turbocustoms's car had piston ring failure. If you're looking for moderate power, 6-8 psi is more than enough. This is the supercharger's territory - good moderate power. For reference, a 10 psi tC should be able to beat a stock WRX STi. TurboCustomz 01-03-2006, 07:25 PM At 10 psi you should be at or around 300 whp. Experimentally, that is also around where Turbocustoms's car had piston ring failure. I ran my car at 14psi for a while before that though. Once the clutch started to hate life, I turned it back down to 10psi. In my experience, with a properly tuned system at 10 psi, you are going to be in the 285-300 range depending on the turbo setup and the tune. It seems that the engine is happy in that range and would last a while. It's all in the tuning really. Charles TheQuietThings 01-03-2006, 10:13 PM depends on if you are running a turbo set up or a supercharger set up. With a turbo, you arent going to be able to run as much boost, as you would a supercharger, since the turbocharger kits for the tC are yielding more HP/Lbs. of Boost With the TRD supercharger, im going to say that the block can handle around 14lbs and with a Turbocharger, depending on the kit of course, around 10Lbs. and of course... just because the block can handle it, doesnt mean it has the proper fuel delivery and tuning to go along with it. 06smith 01-03-2006, 10:23 PM Yea I know about the fuel, I would upgrade that as well, can't have lot of air with no fuel, wrong idea. I just wanted to know how many pounds of turbo boost I could push without having to worry too much about the engine blowing up on me. Thanx alot for the advice and help guys, I greatly appreciate it. |
