View Full Version : Custom Flames & Retro Wheels

About a month ago the wife and I bought a new xB. I really love the styling of it, but the big flat panels on the side seemed to cry out for some kind of decoration. Sumthin. So I started thinking about the kind of flames I admired on cars when I was 8 years old....The idea of flames on a car sporting a huge 108 struck me as ironic, and kinda funny too!
So I asked a neighbor of mine who has a very cool custom lowered pickup with a truly fine paint job where he got his. Turns out him and his brother have a side business doing custom paint - they sure did a good job on our ride. Check it out at:

It's hard to tell from these pics, but there's a light blue border around the dark flames.

As you can see, it still has the stock wheels. What I'd like to do is to get wheels that kind of match the retro theme we've got going here - perhaps some deep-dish wheels, "moon" wheels, or what we used to generically refer to as "mag wheels." I'd like to stick with the stock tire size for reasons too numerous to go into here.
If anyone has any suggestion on a good source for 15-inch wheels such as those described, I'd like to hear about it...
And if you see the wife driving around the L.A. area, give her a wave!

It looks alot like my friend's silver beetle, which is killer!

PM me what you paid for the job if you don't mind. :)

Yeah, we started with the idea of subtle "ghost flames" but we kinda got carried away!

Ralphus, thanks a lot for the tips on wheels, I'll check 'em out.

I like the subtlety of the flames on the HOT LAVA. The gas tank applique doesn't go though.

Those are some great flame jobs. How much did those job cost you guys? And does anyone know an outfit in the Bay Area that would do this? My wife would love to have flames added to her Blue Onyx xB

I dig the subtle ghost flames on the Hot Lava xB too - like I said, that was the look we were originally going for. But the artist (our neighbor's brother) showed us a number of tests, and we fell in love with this color combination. The black flames actually have a thin light blue border which is hard to see in this photo. There's one shot on my page in the registry that's closer in which you can see the blue a bit better. We also have a single flame around the Scion logo on the back hatch....

>Those are some great flame jobs. How much did those job cost you guys?

I collected a few bids, that ranged from 1000 bux to 2500. Ours cost 1200, but I think he gave us a good deal cuz we're neighbors and all.

yeah your gonna need a bra to protect the flames. Or your gonna be ____ed when you get chip.
