Apparently Toyota is well aware that the North American market may view the Yaris compact as wanting in the power and handling department. Stuart found a Yaris on display at the L.A. auto show tuned by Street Image with a ton of TRD parts that may address this issue directly. Highlights include 18-inch wheels, a Sportivo suspension, lightweight flywheel and mechanical LSD. Street Image, known for its tuned Scions and Avalons from SEMA, also added an Eclipse AV/Nav system and custom rear subwoofer housing.

we need options for POWER. . . ug. . . how about a factory supported Supercharger or turbo. . .
They offered the Vios with a factory turbo on the 1NZ for SE Asia. . .

TRD also has a turbo for the bB's, i believe if its for the 1.3l's though. I saw a video a while back (6+ months ago) of a 1.3l bB with a modified trd turbo with other things running 180whp+
Rumor has it trd may be developing a s/c for the Yaris and will produce 140hp, i don't know if its true or not being Toyota hasn't offically anounced thats what will happen. But i keep hearing it on echo/yaris forums.
Personally i like it alot, i may trade my box in for one. I've been dying for the Yaris to come to the states, i love my box but i don't know. We'll see.

I, too have been waiting for the Yaris or Vitz to come to the U.S. The bB and the Vitz were the two cars that I said I'd buy if I came to the U.S., and I already have the xB. I thought about trading in the xB, but my wife's Civic is due for replacment soon, so we might pick one up in the next couple years.

Truth, i've been waiting for the bB, vitz/yaris, smart, skyline, civic type-r, suzuki wagon-r, and a few other cars to come.
So far bB and now yaris is coming. Skyline is supposed to come in 07/08, smart will start making its way over this year with the introduction to the Obvio 828, next year Obvio 012 and i've heard a few other mini cars will hit US soil within the next year and a half. We are slowly getting more true import cars.
If the civic type-r comes, you can count me in at the dealership asap. Yaris i will definitely be test driving when it finally comes. Although its an entry level car, the exterior looks very classic as far as imports scene goes. Very smooth, and looks like a more expensive car than what it is. Same with the xb. I remember when i first bought my box people were asking me how i afforded it and when i would ask them how much they think i paid, i constantly heard $22,000 +. I also, for some reason kept hearing "is it a bmw?". Now, i agree the box looks expensive, but how do you get a bmw from it?
One thing is for sure, Yaris is definitely a long awaited vehicle that should sell extremely well. I wonder if they will do with what they did with Scion, build it in japan and ship it over. I hope so.
Edit: Does anyone have a clear shot of the rpm/speedo of the Yaris? I want to know where it redlines at, i keep hearing from echo/yaris forums top whp/hp is @ 6,000rpm. It makes me wonder if it redlines higher. I hope so.

Considering we won't be getting a tach in the U.S. we have to look to Canada. Looks like it's 6-6.5k.

I am not sure why this Yaris is not part of the Scion lineup? I thought that Scion was the youthmarketing arm for Toyota?

Looks like the Scion of Europe (Aygo) side by side . . . but bigger ;)
While deployed a few years ago I rented a toyota yaris. I remember it being basically an Xa, but with a digital dash and a 1.3L.

Killerromances- the TRD turbo is for the 1.5 bB and ist
The Vitz (JDM Yaris) has an RS version, as well as a 1.5 rs turbo
TMG built an (i think awd?!?!) yaris with the 2zz 1.8 stuck in there (lost the link, have the photo on my pc)
For a TRD yaris i'd take nothing less than a 215hp supercharged 2ZZ thank you (like the one in the european corolla t sport compressor), maybe with awd if its not to heavy.
And Toyota, while at it, how a bout that 2.4 turbo TRD corolla hatch (for 2K7/8) , and the 400hp supercharged TRD Tacoma X Runner from SEMA ??? nice trio to start out with huh? please? pretty please ?

Oh man, if they don't offer a tach, that'll be horrible. In fact, I probably wouldn't buy one if I couldn't get a tach. Maybe that's a bit extreme, but really -- if you're going to offer a manual, at least offer a tach. I'll pay the extra money.
oh sorry if the pics are a little grainy, i took them with my phone.

How were you able to enter the rear seats? Does it have "manual memory" on the front seat like the tC?
Can anyone say Yaris Cup?

The aftermarket base for this car is incredible...the amount of aftermarket parts that can be had from japan is probably comparable with aftermarket support for the civic in the us... this car was actually the replacement for the toyota starlet in japan.

It almost looks like it doesn't redline till close to 8,000rpm. If thats the case, you better believe i will be buying one. It would be a smart move by toyota, Toyota needs another high redline car to compete more so with Honda. max whp is @ 6,000rpm, so the Yaris i would imagine wouldn't redline below 7,000rpm. 8,000 would be wonderful.
