i'm just amazed it took them this long to bring hybrid to the camry...
as long as its not too much of a premium for the hybrid, camry owners are going to eat it up.
nice styling too... sharp looks but nothing too flashy... looks to be a real winner in my book

:ponder: I like it~
The only thing I'm not feelin is the front Toyota emblem. It looks like it doesn't belong there, and should be more like the Avalon's. Maybe its one of those "need to get used to it" type deals :eyebrow:
I guess we'll see ~ overall, impressive thus far.

Is that projectors in the headlights?!?! Man it's coming standard in all Toyotas so quickly. I wish it will be at least a factory option for Scion.

268hp.....that sounds nice.
Certianly nothing too bold in the styling department.....though it's handsome enough for what it is. But it does have to appeal to a wide range of people. They must be doing something right, 'cause they sell 400,000+ per year.....year after year.

Wow i love it!
I work at a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership and all I gotta say is that car is going to kill our sales. No way the Milan or Montego can keep up. Too bad, so sad, go Toyota all the way!

Sound like the price will go up if it's truely going to be 268HP.

Kinda wished they would have spiced up the interior a little more than adding some lights. Definetly something to give the Acura TL a run for its money though.

They have made improvements to the 2AZ-FE engine! That is the engine in the tC right? Says it will have 158 hp SAE. They list the 06 as having 154 hp, not sure if that is SAE or not. The same engine is rated as 160 hp in the tC. I would imagine that the 07 tC will have 165-170 hp then and that is if they don't have any improvements. Hmm, that is a bit interesting but I really hope they offer a new upgrade engine choice; so they can have an S model.

^ SE Most of the pictures that are out now is pictures of the hybrid or the SE. I love the interior of the SE. I think it has tipronic controls (sport electronic shift) also.
S is for Corolla.

I'm glad to see they officially announced this car. I have been seeing them roll down the assembly line for several months now and we were not allowed to talk about it. The SE model in person is very sharp. The body kit and 17s really set it off. The interior has changed a little over last years model, and looks a little better. More comfort options as well. The only thing about the new model I'm not looking all that forward to, all the Saturday production overtime we'll be running over the next six months to get them out the doors. To give you an idea, we build over 500 cars per shift, per day, per plant. 2 shifts, 2 plants, 5 days. Half are Avalons tho. Fast paced production. And we can't build them fast enough.

i like it a lot. the styling in general, though the front is indeed mazda6-esque. are you noticing the yaris and camry have these new style seats now?
this car is a HUGE improvement over the previous camry. not to mention, reading over all the drivetrain improvements, im impressed. especially with the auto tranny internals, and 2az mods.

What the hell have those designers at Toyota be smoking, this is way off from the last ugly design of the Camry. Don't they know that this Camry actually looks nice, I think someone's going to get fired for making the new Camry look like a Lexus.

The Hybrid Camry receives a AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology-Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) classification similar to the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius. Hybrids IMO is not about high MPG it's about emitting LOW LOW emissions. You can typically get more MPG from a diesel except diesels spit out more harmful emissions. Hybrid model gets standard 8-speaker JBL 6-disc in dash changer system with MP3/WMA playback.

Wonder about the prices of the Camry and the Camry Hybrid ?Will hybrid sales b the same?Rite now I know the difference in Honda Civics and the Honda Civic hybrid?A regular Honda Civic with no options runs around $15,100 while the hybrid Civic runs
$22,400.What is going to make me buy this Camry hybrid I ask?

as more hybrids hit the market, I'm hoping the prices will come down some. Either that or hopefully when the hyundai/kia economy hybrids hit the market, hopefully it'll start a price war.

djct guess what ?Citroen had a Hybrid car b4 GM ever thought about 1,lol.
djct_watt
01-17-2006, 05:40 PM
In production or as a prototype, because that changes the game quite a bit. In fact, GM had a working prototype all aluminum engine since the 70's. . . but it never made production.
I'm sure GM has a hybrid prototype, but it's probably not production ready.
As far as Citroen goes, they've made some decent cars for their local market.

I don't know if they should so much as fear them. . . even IF they do make good cars, their sales figures are SO low on the global market. If I'm not mistaken, Hyundai's sales are much higher.

Word is, they used the tc as a test bed for this new update to the 2az. Basically they are giving the camry the tc version of the engine.

Just as people discovered the tC engine isn't the same as in the old Camry, I don't think the new Camry is exactly the same as the tC either. One clue is where they listed the new engine having 9.8:1 compression, where the tC has 9.6:1. Seems like the Camry should then make the same or better power than the tC, yet it's rated a few less...likely due to exhaust plumbing restrictions, as that's a typical cause. Regardless, we can hope that the more important parts, such as bearings, will now be the same between Camry and tC engines.

Finally the Lexus ES and Camry have visibly contrasting rear-end treatments. Interesting.
Honestly, I feel that the third and fourth generation ES's had more differences form the Camry. . .
The 3ES had the full tail lights, vs the Camry's narrow horizontal slits. After the update, the Camry was given the big C class style tail lamps, and the 4ES had the semi-altezza tails with a completely different shape. Even the rear profile was different with the rounded rear window/C pillar.
But I like the 5ES the most, although it's a close call between this and the 3ES.
