View Full Version : From ScionSpeed Disaster to ZPI Race Car in 30 days
STAGE2TC 01-10-2006, 07:00 AM After alot of hard work and putting together a car that showed up in shambles, ZPI made right what SCIONSPEED ruined. When Kenny said the car was gonna be pefect, I thought it couldnt be done. He proved me wrong. My car went from having a blown motor to hauling absoulte ___. The motor was replaced. He turbo kit was completely re-engineered. Every pipe was replaced. I had to replace a whole lot of stuff. Scionspeed fried my e-manage. That was replaced. All the oil lines had to be replaced, not because they were damaged but because they were the wrong size. New oil pan...again wrong size bung. We added a new ZPI v2 pully, Zenon headlights, AEM wideband controller,CM stage 3 clutch and a whole lot of tuning on the mustang dyno. I flew up to louisville to pick up the car thursday... the first words out of Kenny's mouth "wanna go for a ride in your car" ... hell yes... This was before the pully... and before the dyno...the car had never been that fast... he says... "still gotta go to the dyno.. make more power....i say sure..why not... He made 290 whp and 320 ft/lbs of torque on a mustang dyno...this should be good for over 300whp on a dynojet after the pully upgrade @ 11 lbs of boost with A/F 10.1 to 1 ( very rich/safe). The crew ZPI was great and answered all my questions. Best experience ive ever had with any shop. I'll tell kenny to post on this thread . He can tell the story of how the car came together better than i can.
Gmoney 01-10-2006, 11:34 AM how were the install prices of everything? im thinking of driving up there and having them install the turbo kit along with a clutch and some other goodies.
Stu_Gotti 01-10-2006, 12:44 PM Outstanding.. good stuff! :)
DJ_X_Trodinaire 01-10-2006, 12:45 PM stu stop drooling

rhythmnsmoke 01-10-2006, 01:16 PM Good to see your car back running. ZPI = Quality.
ScionDad 01-10-2006, 01:33 PM
I heard some really bada$$ things happened under that hood.
ZPIracing 01-10-2006, 02:00 PM Rob,
Thanks for the kind words...The guys in the shop did wonders with car. I was starting to think at one point that it would never run again... The car is setup on a very conservative tune ata bou 10.5,1 -11.2 is about the leanest it sees under boost. We had to replace the entire vehicle harness, the Emanage unit, and the MAF sensor. Sorry about the pics we were out of Blue tial BOV...
I know Rob mentions me a lot but the guys in the back are the ones who busted butt on this car and made a miracle happen after this car showed up in rubber maid containers....
Thanks again for the support it keeps us doing what we love and allows us to continue to bring new parts to the Scion community.

Come NOPI Nats 06'.. Gotti will be ready this time! :)
seen4ever 01-10-2006, 02:54 PM stock engine or did you put different rods/pistons in the old engine?
rhythmnsmoke 01-10-2006, 03:07 PM I remember seeing your car up when I was up at ZPI last. Those pics look good. Did you guys take any vids or anything?
nester 01-10-2006, 03:19 PM I'm very happy with this project. We were happy to see it leave under it's own power, especially considering how it arrived.. engine in the trunk.
ivandrios 01-10-2006, 03:35 PM thats pretty hot....time to look for new credit cards..
STAGE2TC 01-10-2006, 03:50 PM The engine is stock...we did not replace rods or pistons....although there was someone getting that donne when i left louisville...his car is gonna be really really sick. Even on a conservative tune...my car breaks the tires loose in fourth...i know cause i whored my buddies G35 doing it. We desided not to go for big numbers considering what had happened to my car. Kenny felt it was best to go for str8 reliablity. I had to agree..i dont wanna do this again. As for install prices, they were great. I'm very happy with the experience. As you can tell from the pictures the turbo kit is real different from what it used to be. You can compare the pictures in my profile to the ones that kenny posted. Be quick about it though..cause im changing those real soon.
retrodrive 01-10-2006, 04:09 PM Yet again. ZPI does something to the extent that no other vendor would do. Good job guys!

Stu_Gotti 01-10-2006, 06:04 PM Gotti, you have your situation straightened out yet?
Ehh.. I am sitting in this right now.. I would like to see more similar issues prior to anything.. as it stands.. I am just taking it.. James from ProMotion and I were talking about further actions.. but.. still up in the air. I am happy... I got my car back and she's coming together quickly. Preciate it! :)

good to hear about zpi doing this for another customer.
sensay 01-10-2006, 08:59 PM very nice! but i wouldnt want to be in that car in a frontal accident, no bumper, at all! :nails:

Yeah, he's still on the same manifold and turbo. We tried to retain as much of the old kit as possible, for the sake of cost.. We fixed a lot of very problems, and as you can see in the pictures, we're now proud enough to put our name on it. :)
nester 01-10-2006, 09:21 PM very nice! but i wouldnt want to be in that car in a frontal accident, no bumper, at all! :nails:

jakedudeta 01-10-2006, 10:22 PM Looks _____in. How much did it all cost?
Noob question.
ZPIracing 01-10-2006, 11:06 PM I would say a lot....between the money he paid Scion Speed to screw it up....then ship it to us and then us fix it ...I am not sure what his total bill is all togther but it is easily 10k+
STAGE2TC 01-11-2006, 12:17 AM Easily 10K..spent...trying to get some of that back... i'll post a vid as soon as i get a chance to make one... the intercooler will absorb some impactjavascript:emoticon('') .... nester ask rukus is kenny's bro's Pu**Y still hurts?
ignitionr34 01-11-2006, 01:09 AM that looks sick as hell

If he spends any more, he'll probably end up in divorce court... :nails: :nails:
nester ask rukus is kenny's bro's Pu**Y still hurts?
Hahaha. I'll check.. Likely, the answer is yes. :D
raamaudio 01-11-2006, 06:48 AM Bravo ZPI! Not many companies would of touched that car unless desperate for work and ZPI has more than then need all the time, just dang cool!
Rick
raamaudio 01-11-2006, 06:50 AM Now onto the bumper comment, it would have very very little to do if you survived a crash or not, it is mainly there to prevent more damage to the front of the car for minor impacts. Of course during some types of crashes it would transfer the load to both sides or from one side to the other depending on the angle, etc, so it would help but again, you would survive and probably not much different injury wise if any at all.
If you get into a big enough crash to be life threatening, it would make little difference either way if there or not, you do have air bags I assume? :)
That said I prefer to leave mine intact for structural integrity but part of that is because I remove all airbags (contrary to what you may chose to believe, I have valid reasons for doing so and some of them are for my safety;)
If any of this sounds conflicting, not really if I spelled it all out but it would take longer than I care to sit here typing about it:)
Rick
Stu_Gotti 01-11-2006, 12:27 PM  w0rd
raamaudio 01-11-2006, 04:16 PM One important reason I "have" to leave mine intact for is we are building a very serious autocross car with a great deal of effort going into strenghtening the chassis, if we cut into the bumper we would have to add something back to replace it with.
For the average driver, even on a boosted car, most will never stess the chassis enough to notice a difference.
Wide super sticky race tires all around and a fully developed suspension is another story;)
Rick
nester 01-11-2006, 04:43 PM It's sad that this thread about how happy Rob was to get his car back has turned into a discussion on chassis rigidity..
a1racer 01-11-2006, 06:10 PM great job zpi glad to here some one is lookin out for the scion people hope scion speed is paying for some of this.
raamaudio 01-11-2006, 06:46 PM I agree but a good question was asked and a good answer was something members need to know.
Now back to the original discusion, that you guys took care of a car most shops would not of touched or if they did would end up with another hack job.
Again, Bravo! Taking care of him was a dang fine thing to do and is a great testement to what you guys are about:)
Rick
STAGE2TC 01-21-2006, 02:36 AM Well....so far the car runs great. Got some data logging done so kenny can adjust fuel for the S.Florida air. The car has the new light weight v2 pully...this pully makes a world of difference. The car accelerates hard with it on, and it makes no belt noise...a real testament to the guys that put my car back together...i went through and retorqed all the bolts on th kit.. and they didnt budge...nothing loose...ive put 1800 miles on it so far and do far sooo sooo good
ZPIracing 01-21-2006, 03:19 AM Robert,
Glad to hear everything is still as good as when it left.. hope you're getting some sleep, with that little one.. :)
