View Full Version : Air vent kit for stock fog light holes on xB
jthebear 01-11-2006, 10:00 PM I like to modify but I can't go extreme. However, most of the xBs I see don't have OEM fog lights. I am looking at that blank where the fog lights go and I am thinking that something could go there. I am not an engineer but I am think someone could make a pop-in vent to go where the fog light blanks are. It should sell if it is made so that an idiot (me) could pop them in and doesn't cost to much.
I can see where some people would want that. I think I would. What do you think? Have you heard of such a kit. Perhaps a billet grill kit for the stock holes...
{ If someone engineers a kit for this based on my suggestion; could I get a freebie? }
koalaty2 01-11-2006, 10:18 PM I made my own, but believe I saw an xB on cardomain.com that said they had purchased a set. There are 608 xB's to look through, and no search, so it could take some time. Some complain about the search on scionlife, but it is gobs better than "none". Thanks for the search option.
bassist1217 01-12-2006, 01:45 AM i wonder if you could make a ram air setup...
05_camo_boxb 01-12-2006, 02:07 AM i know weapon-r has a ram air kit...but for cheap you can do what i did in my 90 integra..go to a salvage yard find a zx3 ford focus and take the ram air from that...then what you have to do is cut the strap that holds the part not the tube and turn it around(spin 180) and re zip tie..then place it under the front lip or were you like.....and run the tube to the intake...also the pice has to holes allready so you use those ...im in the process of getting one so ill post pics when i do...
squirrel 01-12-2006, 02:16 AM I have a prototype fibreglass duct that utilizes the foglight cover and the opening, but I haven't gone into production w/ it. I guess I should make a few to see if anyone is interested.
1sicbox 01-12-2006, 02:25 AM I'd be interested in filling in that area as well
Here is the closest I have seen...

squirrel 01-12-2006, 02:46 AM Max, my ducting doesn't go as far back as its for the short ram intakes. Its been sitting idle for over a year now. I guess there's interest now. I made mine so during the warmer summer months the air would blow in directly from the front of the car. But, I noticed I could already see the filter from the middle grille, that's why I shelved the project.
FrankenScion 01-12-2006, 02:56 AM A club member made one and he lost 100 miles off a tank of gas and didn't gain that much hp.
aireck 01-12-2006, 03:43 AM i think Volant makes a kit for the xb already...
with the ram air duct in the fog light hole...

what about bBOXD's jdm ones?
Rocket 01-12-2006, 12:58 PM I made the one below. I just cut a few holes in the stock blank, siliconed some mesh screen in the back and my Air Filter is right behind it.

dslroxx 01-12-2006, 01:49 PM I made one that is similar for mine. Here is one picture of it and if you go to my Car Domain page (link at the bottom) there are more. Also, I do know Gary from Nish Designs sells one made out of just mesh. It looks pretty good but if you have a light colored car you may have to paint the inside of the hole black so you don't see the edges. www.nish-designs.com

dslroxx 01-12-2006, 02:23 PM Thanks, Fuji. Your ride rocks as well. Remember me? I met you at Elmhurst Scion's Nite Lite show in October. I was the old guy from Wisconsin.

you SERIOUSLY need to post a step-by-step for that piece.
PLZ!!!!!!
Or sell me yours for a reasonable price.
dslroxx 01-12-2006, 03:16 PM Very easily made - though kinda ghetto.
I bought a new pre-painted BSP fog light cover from the dealer (~$35).
Using a hole saw I drilled a hole in the center at both ends and used a dremel to cut out the middle section, leaving a long oval hole in it.
Using that hole as a template, I cut out a piece of plastic home gutter cover that fits the hole perfectly and used a hot glue gun to attach it after I painted it black.
I then took a sheet of real carbon fiber and cut a similar, but slightly smaller, oval hole and attached it to the front with 3M double face tape.
You can stop there if you want and it will look fine, but I went a little further and fabricated the inside of the "scoop" out of a sheet of textured black ABS plastic. It help hide the inside of the fog light area and makes it look more finished when installed.
I also made one for the other side that has no hole - just carbon fiber. Makes them stand out a little better when both sides matched.
I also mounted purple LEDs inside the scoop hole. The whole thing glows purple at night.
Total for the entire project was about $80 for both sides using new fog light covers. I wanted to keep my original yellow ones in case I wanted to go back to stock down the road sometime and you cant get pre-painted yellow ones from the dealer.

did you have tattos? and where chillin by my xb all night? is so the yes. if not - yeah i remember you still.
dslroxx 01-12-2006, 10:19 PM Fuji,
I think you may be thinking of someone else. I do have alot of tattoos but it was too damn cold that night and I don't think I took my coat off! I had the only RS2 there - and I took 1st place that night in the xB category. If you don't remember, no biggie! Maybe next time. I do plan on coming down there a lot more this summer.
jthebear 01-12-2006, 11:28 PM Okay I'm thinking about modifying the existing blank fog ohle covers by using a table saw to horizontally cut two lines in the blanks equally spaced from each other and from top and bottom. Each cut would start one and one/half inch from either side. The cuts by a table saw are one-eighth wide. What do you think? Doable? A good idea?
Fujiz_xb 01-13-2006, 01:10 AM dslroxx.. yeah sorry bro. i forgot my coat that night and i dont remember alot of the new faces only a few.
Frosty355 01-13-2006, 01:18 AM Oh, no. Now I have new ideas. That's just great. My girlfriend is gonna leave me for sure thanks to y'all. YOU ARE ALL TO BLAME!! Now I'm off to cut holes in my xB.

Cool, thx, but where does one buy a sheet of real carbon fiber like that?
EDIT : nvm I found one...thx
