You know, that is the ONLY bad review I've ever read of the xB. Well, we all like it, so who cares?

there is nothing "bad" about the review. its a review from one person. just because there is disagreement doesn't mean that it is bad. i think it still contains some pertinent information for some people. will it persuade my opinion to not buy a scion.

well everyone buys scions for different reasons.

Umm...$13,680 is high? News to me, for a new car, that's cheap to me at 21. Better than my Eclipse RS. Edit: The xB I rode in had a very quiet engine, I can't speak for anybody elses..but I don't believe that.

Loud engine? So far no one has been able to tell mine was running, things damn quiet.

Maybe the one they used for the test had an exhaust system on it?

I am 45 going on 46 .. averages to 33.5-34.5 So that part is correct....

i think a funny bit is that the average age of the buyer is roughly 35 years of age.

i think it's coupled from the fact that many 18-20-somethings purchase the car, and the rest (save for a few) are older people with children in the 16-20 somethings and they're buying the car and putting it under their name to save on insurance.

that's what a lot of parents do to save on insurane costs.

kids pay for car, put it under their parents, then the parents buy a crappy car and put it under their name and say it's the kids primary car and the kid is only a part time driver of the new car.

they save a big chunk of change this way. they save even more if they have insurance from companies like AAA and State Farm because these companies hand out, at minimum, a 10% discount on auto insurance if you get home owner's insurance in a package type deal.

So in fact, the purchase age is correct, but the age of the user is incorrect (for the most part).

Out of all the Scion xA and xB's, that I've seen around the S.F. Bay Area (it's been over 60 or so different sightings), only two had been driven by people over the age of 25. and they were two filipino people like age 60.

I'm 31, not in the target-age range, but love the car anyway. :D

Loud engine reference was probably the exhuast noise in the rear. That or when the box is running and you are standing outside. Yes, it it moderately loud, like most cars. Inside, you can barely hear the engine running (excluding the exhuast rumble)

Your theory is valid but I think you need to give more credit to the older buyers, During a random poll of the SE Scion club, 2/3 rds of the memebers were 35 plus. All driver their Scions every day.

Granted I bought mine to have fun with for about 4 years untill my 12 year old gets his permit. I fully intend to give him the xb.

The Xb fills a big gap for those who want practicality and fun at an affordable and economical price. I liked the looks, it is fun to drive, great MPG, more room than my pick up truck had and most of all either you understand what the xB is all about or you don't.

The xb is about individuality..even old folks like me are not afraid to be different. A lot of us were the hippies of the 70's and the punks of the 80's..

Haven't had so much fun driving a car since my teenage years in a VW bug. So you can only imagine how old I am. Needless to say, well over the target age. And now my folks are seriously considering this car.

Seriously while this car was originally targeted toward the x-generation, it has inherent features which make it attractive to older drivers. First of all its ease of entry. There isn't a high step-up, and the doors are wide and the roof line is high. So one doesn't have to stoop over to get in (which is great for my bad back). Older drivers don't need a muscle car. So the small, fuel efficient engine is a plus. Even the placement of the speedometer is advantageous as many are starting to suffer the affects of presbyopia. Next the improved visibility provided by the slightly higher seating height gives us a little more leeway for our slower reactions. Lastly the small outer dimensions and the boxy shape make the vehicle so much easier to park and maneuver around town.

Incidentally I don't think that auto reviews are one of the fortes of Forbes magazine.
