Selling tC.. fair asking price?
So I've decided to sell my tC, I just can't stand the insurance/car payments every month. Even tho I can afford it pretty easy I'd rather have something I own and just have the extra money to do whatever I want, not pay something off every month. Insurance is the real killer here tho, just got a ticket and my insurance is gonna be going up to top it all off so I'm not about to pay over $300 a month to insure a car.
The car is an 06 scion tC in black sand peral. The extra dealer options on the car are the side curtain air bags, ground effects kit, and floor mats. Also I have my gauges/center console lights changed to red and a ark speed racing short shifter and also 15% tint all around. The cars an 06 so obviously nothing is wrong with it. It currently has 7650 miles on it. I orginally paid, not 100% sure, around 19,800 with the extended warrenty. I know I get the warrenty back which was about $1,000. So I was thinking about going for $18,000, maybe listing for 18,500 and working from there. I live in Arizona so the car isn't exposed to any bad weather, espessially with it being winter. So.. What would be a fair asking price for a tC? and what should I expect to get? Thanks

I'm not gonna part anything out. I just wanna sell the car, not peice by peice. I don't know how to take it off easy enough to want to part it. I know that www.trdsparks.com sells the ground effects cheaper than what you'd pay at the dealer, so maybe you'll want to check there.
I'd say just start at $17k and go from there. The thing is though if you really want top dollar you have to be very patient. Not a lot of people are going to bite right away and you're going to be tempted to keep lowering that price.
You might also check out what the dealer is willing to offer you. Lets say the dealer says he'll throw you 16k well then you know you can get a bit more than that from a person and should never go near that number.

the gauge lights, tint and short shifter don't add any value. i would check out what an 05 is selling for and add a 1000 or so to that if you are looking to unload quick.
check here
as you know, three different values....retail, private party and trade in.
imo, ask the retail and settle for private party (the car "has legs" as it were).

According to KBB the retail value of an 05 tC with just the Front/Rear side air bags is $20,620. Thats already more than I paid for the car lol. The value of an 05 to a private party is $18,320. ikonXone mentioned adding $1000 to an 05 price, which would be $19,320.. Again it would be more than I paid for it. So, I think I'm just gonna list it for $18,500 and work from there. I'm aware the tint/gauges/short shifter don't add value, I was just listing what the car had.

The gauges are actually not a good thing. To some folks it might actually detract from the value. Everything else is good though. These things are hard to find used. take some good pics and list it at autotrader.com.
As for the warranty, don't cancel it just yet. If its a Toyota warranty, you can transfer it to the new buyer. They might buy it from you for more than you'd get as a refund.

These car's sell very quick used. Try 17-18. No less then 17. For insurance, try ameriprise. I pay around 80 bucks a month for my 06 TC, with a minor blemish on my driving record.
I would check with them before you go selling your car, since its the insurnace price you don't like.

The extended service contract is transferable, you do not get all of it back. If you cash it in, you have to go to the dealer you purchased it from. They apply for the refund, the check is sent to you if you have proof the car is paid off, otherwise to the bank to go towards the esixting loan.
You can get pretty much near sticker for a used one like you have.

This probably goes without saying, but you might want to ask your insurance company what its going to cost for the car you have in mind to drive once you get rid of the tC... it might not be a heck of a lot less, and could make the whole trade not worth it. From what I can tell scions are pretty cheap to insure compared to most cars.
