Default Impounded for Exhibition of Speed

ok so the other night i was driving home at around 11:30 and my tires screeched in 1st gear and the cop said it happened in 2nd as well but i dont think that happened. so i got pulled over for exhibition of speed and my car got impounded for 30 days. i wasnt racing anyone so it shouldnt be that bad. he said screeching your tires is considered exhibition of speed and that i was "showing off". the cops exact words were "oooohhh look at me in my lowered car that can go fast!" but come on who is really on the road at almost midnight on a sunday night to show off to?

i was wondering if anyone knew anything i could do to get my car out of the impound before 30 days. i need my car to get back and forth to work and i cant afford 30 days of impound fees. or does anyone know a good lawyer in the san diego area that might be able to get my car back and get me out of this ticket? i talked to a couple already and 2 of them wanted $1500 but thats a lot of money if they cant get this dismissed because i would have to pay $1500 for the lawyer plus $1000 for the impound fees plus up to $500 in fines. if i dont do anything about it i just have to pay $1000 for the impound and up to $500 for the fine but i will get the points on my license so that is a plus for getting a lawyer. he might be able to get it reduced to no points or whatever. i also talked to mr. ticket who is going to charge me $299 for the case and he will write a letter to try to get my car out but he cant promise anything. and he will plea bargain to try to get it reduced. which if i had to pay a small fine for a lesser charge and get no points that would be awesome. so i am thinking of going with him since he is only $299 and he specializes in traffic tickets. but i just hope he can get my car back so i dont have to pay all the impound fees that and i cant go without my car for 30 days. i would go nuts!!!! any advice would be helpful. thanks!

well.... san diego has extremely tough laws against things like this. the racing scene was really huge down there and cops started cracking down on all the cars that look like "racers". looks like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time and for you not to know/think that you didn't chirp the tires in second means that you took off fast. you could of looked back at the scene from where you left to see if there was water on the ground and fight it that way.

i wasnt going fast cause i started driving normal right after i put it in 2nd. and even on the ticket it says approximate speed 15 mph max speed 40 mph. but yea i know the cops in san diego get hard ons for that kind of thing but i wasnt racing anyone so i dont see why screeching tires is that big of a deal if i stopped doing it and i wasnt racing. i was definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time though. it was the end of the cops shift and he probably had a bad day so he took it out on me cause i did something stupid. oh well i am going to hire that lawyer and see what he can do. hopefully he can at least get my car out of the impound and plea bargain it down.

yea i found out from my lawyer it is pretty much up to the police. so i can talk to someone at the station and see if there is anything they can do or i can even talk to the cop that impounded it. other then that i am pretty much screwed. they told me to just keep trying to talk to someone and maybe i will catch them on a good day and they will be nice and let me have it back.

thanks... i probably wont so this whole thing is going to cost me around $1500. i guess that is better than paying $1500 for the lawyer and $1000 for the impound fees plus the fine for the ticket.

my buddy got a ticket for exhibition of speed, out here in irvine... i think it was around $1500 for the ticket, but no impounding the car... anyhow, he went to court and pleaded his case to the judge, and he asked for community service because he said that he wouldn't be able to come up with $1500, so the judge gave him x-amount of hours for community service and 1 point on his driving record. man that beats the heck out of a $1500 any day, IMO... good luck tho.

dude. i got an exh. of speed ticket on sat. jan 14. 9:40 pm on clairemont mesa. but i did race so it WAS my fault. i know, stupid, so yell at me all you want. it was my FIRST and LAST race. since then ive bought a radar det. but yeah.. i have court in march now and i dont know whats going to happen. was your car impounded on the spot? and who was the officer.. PM me. the first thing he said to me was "right now youre under arrest for drag racing" i was like FFFFFF. but then i ended up just getting the citation.. do you think their gonna impound my tC? or just suspend my liscense...? =(

and im sorry you got ____ for something you didnt deserve. but in my case i deserve whatever i have coming at me...

dude that is so messed up!!! he impounded my car on the spot... first thing he said to me was turn off the vehicle and give me your keys. that sucks you got it the night before i did. at least you still have your car though i suggest getting a lawyer so that he can work on not having your license suspended. did he get the other guy too? cause that would suck if you were racing someone and he only got you.

the guy i went to charged me $299 and he deals solely with traffic tickets. Click here for Mr. Ticket's website. if you go to a defense attorney then it is going to cost you around $1500 which is why i decided to go with the guy i did. i didnt have $1500 for a lawyer.

as far as the impound goes i dont know if you will get yours impounded if he didnt impound it on the spot. unless the judge decides to impound it during your court date. but i doubt that will happen. lucky for you. i am going to be paying like $1000 in impound fees

i feel your pain man! good luck with everything! i just wish i would have been so lucky as to not have my car impounded
