How loud is your interior?
I just got my 2006 xB in August and I've noticied how loud the exhaust and road noise is. I've been thinking about dynomatting the entire interior before I even put wheels or any aftermarket stereo in my xB.
I'm just looking for input from other xB owners to see if I'm the only one noticing...
I'm positive if I dynomat the car, it will be much quieter but I want to make sure there isn't anything "different" in mine then others.

i've seen a lot of xB owners that have sound deadened their interior. it will make a lot of difference once you've done it.
here's a link to learn more about it.

I appreciate the link to the tC Ice forum, I didn't even consider checking that out. I remember reading a very good post here that had comparisons and I think I'm going to go w/ the RAAM product line.
I'll probably pick up 2 rolls of the product, some of the foam, and adhesive. Looks like I'm going to do all this before I even get wheels, oh well. I want to quiet down the interior...

I used a couple rolls of eDead (the thicker one) and it's a big improvement. I posted the specs elsewhere on this site, can't remember where but look up all my posts and you'll find it.
The doors shut more solidly and the whole care feels more expensive.

Yes, the interior is loud, especially if you get a new exhaust. I did my hatch area in eDead. Huge difference! I did a couple doors, they sound much more solid when shutting. I highly recommend doing this.
Well it looks like a local guy is going to hook me up. I plan on doing the entire xB with really no intentions on changing out the stereo for a bit. After this project, getting softer springs/struts is next and I've already got those items picked out.
Glad to hear its just not me and it appears to be the vehicle. Guess my years of music in college has me a bit picky about sound.

When you do the floor, there will be parts of the floor that will need double layers. Tripple layer the wheel wells and if you can throw on some layers on the exterior wheel wells since this is where the most noise comes from. Use both mass loading and barrier loading when deadening the system. You can easily reduce the road noise decible level by 70%, more than that will be excess.

Take a hint from someone who did the hard part twice:
Run your wires now. It's a lot of work to remove the seats and carpet and all the panels. Decide where your amp is going to be, and run power to it, and spkr cables from there to your sub's location. Etc., etc. You'll be glad you did. I wish I had.
How loud is the xB interior? Here are the db readings I got. In garage/windows up (but garage door open): 2K rpm/58 db, 3K rpm/62 db, 4K/66 db. On specific section of road (I have an automatic): 2500 rpm & 6o mph/70 db, 2nd gear at 60 mph (under heavy acceleration) 76 db. I have stock exhaust/ aem intake and stock stereo. To make things quieter, I am putting in jute padding under carpet, new plusher carpet and sound deadening material everywhere, for both loading and absorbing. Waiting for manufactures recomendations before final decision. I am hoping for a great decrease, but the numbers will tell for sure. I have used plush carpet before with jute padding and the difference was very noticeable. Now I will have numbers to back up what my ears tell me (can't use the butt dyno for this check). And the NAPA shocks for the Echo definitely make a difference in the ride. Not quite so harsh.

I was just curious how well the car responds to the added weight of this sound deadening material. Do any of you notice less pick-up when you're taking off? Has your gas mileage been noticeably effected? Does your car exibit more body roll going in/out of a corner?
I'm unsure of the over all weight that can be added by lining the whole car with this stuff. I imagine that the added benefit of the quiet interior would outweight the performance aspects (or lack there of) on a Scion. TIA,
Tony
