View Full Version : NST Supercharger pulley update 2/2/06...check it out!!
Simplyscion 01-19-2006, 08:22 PM So I finally got a chance to get this pulley in after its been sittin in my kitchen in a box for the past 2 days. All I can say is that I am EXTREMELY pleased with the results. The car has much more response and pulls a hell of a lot harder from 3000-6200 RPM's. No belt slippage and I dont think that it will after time cause the belt is still pretty tight. On my first test drive I ripped through first then hit second and the wheels started slipping so badly that I banged third and felt like I was gonna rip my axle apart
I gotta give a round of applause to NST for making this pulley for our S/C setups
These guys have some of the best customer service I have ever encountered and I would absolutely hands down reccomend NST to anyone with a supercharger looking to pick up a few more whp for REAL REAL cheap. My TRD boost gauge kit is in the mail so I will let you guys know exactly how much boost I am hitting when I get it next week.
Ohh yea, forgot to add, my Forge bypass valve sounds like a shreaking bat now when it hits like 4500 RPMs
Scion-ce 01-19-2006, 08:31 PM What color pulley did you get? I wish there was another option for us regular non-dealership employees. An option that would retain warranty.

:eyebrow: um... your BPV should not shreak... :nails: how much boost is it advertised to give you?
Scion-ce 01-19-2006, 08:41 PM [quote=Simplyscion]how much boost is it advertised to give you?
It is advertised as 9.5 psi. .5 psi more than the ZPI pulley. The ZPI pulley dynoed ast 21 whp or something @ 9psi. I would hope that 9.5psi would yield 25whp
Scion-ce 01-19-2006, 08:42 PM [quote=Simplyscion]how much boost is it advertised to give you?

Umm...I installed it backwards...thanks for your concern though
Simplyscion 01-19-2006, 09:02 PM What color pulley did you get? I want to get the NST pulley too for my s/c tC but am afraid of the dealer trying to give me the shaft and void my warranty. I guess you don't have to worry about that one, huh? :P I wish there was another option for us regular non-dealership employees. An option that would retain warranty.
I got the black one anyway...just cause I didnt want people to notice the difference right away :lalala:
Scion-ce 01-19-2006, 09:05 PM So let me ask you since you work at a dealership. Is anyone that decides to swap s/c pulleys pretty much screwed when it comes to dealership cooperation and warranty?
Simplyscion 01-19-2006, 09:08 PM So let me ask you since you work at a dealership. Is anyone that decides to swap s/c pulleys pretty much screwed when it comes to dealership cooperation and warranty?
truthfully, the pulley looks almost the same except for size...and the standard pulley has a matte finish to it unlike the NST pulley which is an anodized finish. I can almost guarantee that any A mechanic wouldnt even be able to tell the difference in the pulleys.
Scion-ce 01-19-2006, 09:13 PM My concern is more about the tamperproof cap than anything. Is it really no cap=no warranty, no questions asked?
Simplyscion 01-19-2006, 09:20 PM My concern is more about the tamperproof cap than anything. Is it really no cap=no warranty, no questions asked?
I dunno man...I really couldnt tell you...all I can say is that it would probly vary from dealer to dealer...It seems like a lot of people on here didnt even get their caps installed from the begining...mine was never put on and I never even requested to have them leave it off...I think thats cause they knew I was doing the pulley swap anyway but who knows.

Scion-ce 01-20-2006, 03:03 AM Can you tell us more about your first impression?
garyc_01 01-20-2006, 03:26 AM thanks for the info now the a techs will know!!! wahahaha !!! some will know dont look down at the techs. so bad. cause im one of them...
Simplyscion 01-20-2006, 03:26 AM my first impression was really good...I was actually really surprised. The true way of telling how much power you actually pick up from the pulley is by putting it in 4th gear at about 3000 RPM's and you can really feel how much better the car pulls. I thought fourth gear was really dead in this car with the supercharger, but now 4th gear feels like 3rd and 5th feels like 4th...definitely pleased with the results...the best $100 I have spent on the car soo far hands down
DTRUONG_112 01-20-2006, 04:43 AM update when you get the boost gauge.
HighlanderMac 01-20-2006, 05:29 AM Man that rocks...
About the ZPI only getting 9 lbs.. its kinda true and kinda not. When I dynoed my tC I was reaching 9.5-10lbs, but you have to remember, if you can bring it riiiight up to redline you will get more boost then they advertise. They need to let you know what RPM the boost that they advertise is...
Joe_Dezod 01-20-2006, 05:54 AM I've always loved NST. I talk to them on AIM on a regular basis and they're stand-up guys. Definately have an addiction for the import scene. As most of us do :)

I don't think he was looking down on techs. I think he was merely stating that if a tech wasn't specifically looking for it, he wouldn't notice the diff pulley. They are both black, and the size diff is like 2/8".

Scion-ce 01-20-2006, 05:08 PM Just out of curiousity, where are you mounting the gauge?
Simplyscion 01-20-2006, 05:13 PM Just out of curiousity, where are you mounting the gauge?
Im gonna modify the pillar pod to fit our pillar...its gonna take some fiberglass and a lot of sanding but it will get done
DTRUONG_112 01-20-2006, 05:27 PM cool. Get pics of that when you get it done.
Simplyscion 01-20-2006, 05:55 PM cool. Get pics of that when you get it done.
definitely...Im already half way there...I have the paint already for the pillar from the xB when I did the gauges for the turbo, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and oil temp. All I gotta do is get the pod to fit and paint it :lalala:
hPower 01-21-2006, 04:54 PM So nice to hear about companies with good customer service when it comes to the tuner world. You always hear about the bad ones, it's so great when you find a stand-up company like this :) NST rocks
I want to see that boost gauge :)
Simplyscion 01-21-2006, 05:09 PM Yea, Mike over at NST is the man...they have some of the best customer service skills I have ever encountered in my years of aftermarket tuning.
Heres a picture of the boost gauge :lalala:

DTRUONG_112 01-21-2006, 06:36 PM Any good kills yet Simplyscion? I;m not a fan of street racing or anything like that, but just wondering how the SC with the pulley does compared to other cars out there right now.
tikbhoy 01-21-2006, 07:34 PM ohh...i got it for $71 shipped :P
thats cheap if localy picked up, i got mine for 80+
Im thinking of selling mine, still new.

Had some fun with a N/A 300z last night....consistent 4 cars ahead the whole time from 0-90 then he gave up and gave me the thumbs up :P .
I messed around with my friend and his EVO last night...basically stock except for the HKS catback and he beat up on me pretty badly on the highway...keep in mind both runs were late at night on the highway with no cars in site( had a few friends that sped up ahead of us to make sure). I dont really like to street race either but its kind of hard being that the closest track is about 2.5 hours away
Nu_ERA 01-21-2006, 07:47 PM Hey Simplyscion what made you go with the NST pulley instead of the ZPI one? I went ZPI cause their customer service was awesome. I love the ZPI pulley but I'm wondering if the NST one is better (for more boost obviously)

Same thing as you...customer service was incredible...NST has also been around for a while and have heard nothing but good things...also straight up for the fact of being different than everyone else. :P

awesome to hear man. What about SRT-4s? Mustang GT's? Motor swapped hatches? Any other kills or close races? :P
Simplyscion 01-21-2006, 08:11 PM naa bro...I dont really run much on the street...plus my car basically looks stock on the outside so nobody really messes with me...only one other run with a civic right when I first got the supercharger...wasnt even worth posting it up it was such a disgrace....I felt really really bad for him cause his girl was in the car with him....I can bet he didnt get any a$$ that night
DTRUONG_112 01-22-2006, 02:17 AM
Scion-ce 01-25-2006, 01:01 PM Any other info on the pulley? What about butt dyno impressions? Can you hear the supercharger whine from inside of the car at idle?
DTRUONG_112 01-25-2006, 10:45 PM updates on the boost gauge?
Simplyscion 01-25-2006, 10:57 PM Any other info on the pulley? What about butt dyno impressions? Can you hear the supercharger whine from inside of the car at idle?
Nothing really new on the pulley...still good to go....the car is definitely quicker with the pulley and the whine at idle is the same as it was without the pulley, you definitely hear it more under load though.
Simplyscion 01-25-2006, 10:59 PM updates on the boost gauge?
I just got it today in the mail...I held the pod up to the pillar and its way off...Theres gonna be a lot of work involved in making it fit but I dont care...I will get it done cause I dont want a 3 gauge pillar and nobody makes a single or even a dual.

Actually I think there is a dual gauge pod. Forgot who makes it, but you should look around some more, because I have seen them.
DTRUONG_112 01-26-2006, 02:36 AM for the a-pillar? Never seen one yet. Really want just a single pod for the a-pillar so I can just get the boost gauge when i get the SC.
Simplyscion 01-26-2006, 02:37 PM yea, I definitely looked...I have never seen anything less than a 3 gauge pod for the a pillar

yamaha16bw 01-26-2006, 03:40 PM My brother has those same pillars^^ I did the install....very nice fit and the C/F look great. Plus you get both sides so they match.
DTRUONG_112 01-26-2006, 03:41 PM nice but man, I dont want to pay that much for a gauge pod. Would be nice though.
Simplyscion 01-26-2006, 03:46 PM hmm....that would look pretty nice in my car but theres no way Im spending that kinda bread on gauge pods
Scion-ce 01-26-2006, 03:48 PM Yeah, I know. I was just putting it out there. CC 3 gauge pod for like 60 bucks sounds much better, but then you will spend alot more on 3 gauges as opposed to 1

This is the only picture I have of them in the car. I'll have him take some for inside the and I'll post them later. I agree that a guage pod for over 250 is way too much but whatever.

Garage1217 01-30-2006, 07:07 PM Yes, NST ROCKS!!!! Here is a pic of my super sexy pulley :)
http://www.4agtoys.com/MYSCIONTC/NSTPULLEY/NST.JPG
You TRD guys have to get this. It rocks! Gives you more psi across the whole rpm range, lots more midrange responce and top end! Worth every penny +!!! This baby by itself as an add on will take your sc tc from being pretty much an equal to an si to ripping it a new one! Weeeeee!
You guys can buy pulleys from any company that sells lots of crap, NST specializes in pulleys and custom setups. They do it the best, always have and always will. I could not reccomend them higher!

Simplyscion 02-02-2006, 08:50 PM Update 2/1/06:
I had some slipping issues with the pulley in 1st and 2nd gear...right around 4,500 RPM's it started to slip real badly....I thought I was able to get away with not getting another belt for it but I had no choice...so I went to Autozone and got myself a new belt :lalala:
For anyone who has a pulley for their supercharger setups and there belt is slipping, I have the remedy for you. I ended up going with a Goodyear Gatorback poly-v belt. The part number is 4070892...best part about it is the belt is from a 5.2L Jeep Cherokee :P
Guess what...so far soo good, no slipping at all....I think this is a guaranteed fix
PS...some people may not experience belt slippage at all and I think it has a lot to do with the climate you live in...so go out and grab yourself a gatorback cause its a kick a$$ belt to begin with...better than the crappy stock belt.

SuperWTC 02-02-2006, 10:56 PM Vman. Do you hear any rattling or some sort of noise when u first start your car up coming from the pulley area? Im curious that with the smaller belt, the noise would go away.... I was thinking that the noise was coming from a loose belt due to a smaller pulley. if anyone has any answers on this please pm me.. thanks
Simplyscion 02-03-2006, 12:54 AM naa...the only thing that used to happen was that the belt would screech really quickly when it was really cold out and the motor was cold.

Was that a slightly longer belt or same size..? Let me know!
Simplyscion 02-04-2006, 03:33 PM Its actually a few mm's smaller than the stock belt...it fits nice and tight and doesnt slip at all anymore 8)
PghtC 03-07-2006, 01:26 AM good stuff. posting here to have this bookmarked in my post list.
TongMan 10-14-2006, 10:24 PM I wanna see pics of the belt. I think i'm going to be like zoltiz and run on my stock supercharger belt. He is doing fine with his.
Simplyscion 10-14-2006, 11:50 PM I wanna see pics of the belt. I think i'm going to be like zoltiz and run on my stock supercharger belt. He is doing fine with his.
he was also running the zpi pulley for a while until I sold him my nst one....i havent talked to him since he put it on, but its pretty much inevitable for it to not slip. Maybe hes got a faulty boost gauge. Its definitely gonna slip though with the stock belt cause the nst pulley is a tad bit smaller than the zpi one and thats where you get that half psi of boost extra
TongMan 10-15-2006, 02:31 AM dang it! running the belt is gonna be hard for me...

jwaggz82 03-05-2007, 01:57 AM ^ Im almost sure of this comment ...can someone back me up .... "the gatorback is not as good as the gates" ....i think I have the gates cause the gatorback was slipping for some people.
