View Full Version : *warning for everyone with umnitza angel eyes*
Clayton1 01-19-2006, 11:10 PM Alright if yall have the umnitza angel eyes, I have some news for you. If you, like me, mounted your ballast on the underside of your headlights (sorry if you did that b/c it said so in my DIY) GO TAKE THEM OFF NOW!!! Water will get into your ballasts and destory them. I already lost both of my ballasts. I call umnitza today and talked to them and they said that we need to mount our ballasts to the upper radiator support beam. I haven't had a chance to go and look under the hood of my car so I;m quite sure where they mean, but I just wanted to let yall know so no one has to go without rocking their totally badass demon eyes for a few days while they wait for a new ballast. Maybe someone who have the demon eyes installed by Umnitza could post a pic where they mounted the ballasts so we could get a better idea???
maximus96 01-19-2006, 11:24 PM FYI: those are actually inverters...not ballasts...
are they sending you new ones? you can buy a cheap set of ccfl lights from www.svc.com and use the inverters from those...cost you like $5...
ycart1201 01-19-2006, 11:58 PM i dont have them, but this is good to know...

Clayton1 01-20-2006, 01:53 AM they are sending me new ones, but i doubt they will do it for many other people
Kakashi_s1 01-20-2006, 04:50 AM Where's the ballast/inverter located? I thought everything was sealed when re-baked? I have no idea yet. I just bought those demon eyes and should receive it shortly. I don't want any trouble coming from it. Can you post a picture up of the location where water leaked at? Thanks.
tcholic 01-21-2006, 05:15 PM it goes under the metal beam thats located over the headlight......i just installed mine yesterday.......its raining over here and no problems so far
SciontCya 01-21-2006, 05:27 PM Aren't the ballasts sealed?
They should be.
If not, I'd take some silicone glue and make sure they don't leak.
Changing location is not a fix - what if you detail your engine/bay?
I find it odd that something like that is not water-tight...
Scott
tcholic 01-22-2006, 07:03 AM ^ yea, they arnt water tight....the cover can pop right off.....
SciontCya 01-22-2006, 04:57 PM That would pi$$ me off!
If someone makes a piece like that and it's not water-tight, I have to wonder about their product's engineering.
That's cheap, and stupid.

wedrivescions is at my house right now and he said
"yeah yeah, i already went through 3 ballasts becuase of that"
Here's the deal.... Take the rubber spray you can buy at an auto store, used to spray the handles of tools and such and spray the whole ballast, let it dry, and then spray it again.... TOTALLY watertight.
Also, be sure to wrap the connections between the ballasts and the DDE Rings, as water can get in there and bridge the connections, shorting it out again...
Then you can moun them anywhere... and not have to worry about water.
Clayton1 01-23-2006, 02:27 AM ahhhh awesome idea taek. thanks man
jwaggz82 01-23-2006, 03:08 AM how hard was it to install the angel eyes?
markritch 01-23-2006, 04:13 AM yea they arent ballasts they just inverters for power....they are pretty cheaply made, and you can get a pair of cathodes like maximus said off SVC.com or xoxide.com and they come with the inverter, simply connect that the same way this one is and your good to go.....ive had bnothihng but probs with my inverters since i had them, both my passenger side rings arent working now ____es me OFF
also keep them away from mounting them on the metal of the car...it screws them up and dims them untill you move the ballast
davedavetC 01-23-2006, 09:22 PM same thing happened to me but im getting new ballast, and think im gonna do what taek said about the spray, but does anyone have more info about that stuff? like names of it and where to get it?? thanks
Clayton1 01-23-2006, 09:24 PM Does anyone think that there is a enough room in the back of the headlight to put the ballast inside the headlight??
davedavetC 01-24-2006, 01:52 AM i dont know if that would work, would the ballast be able to handle the heat you have to apply to the headlamps to put them back together??
markritch 01-28-2006, 08:18 PM put them in plastic bags
