View Full Version : Dual TC sunroof....possible?
elemeno 01-20-2006, 04:38 AM I had my sunroof open the other day (in the middle of Jan :tap: :tap: ) when I noticed that there would be plenty of room under the front fully opened sunroof to be able to pop up the back one (like the old sunroofs). A manual one would be cool, Has anyone ever looked into this at all? I wonder if it might hurt the structural integrity somehow, though I can't see it. personally I think it would look aweome, truly unique.
THansenite 01-20-2006, 05:36 AM That would be awesome. I don't know how many people I have told that the front one opens. Then they ask if the back one opens too. When I tell them no, the look disappointed. It would be nice if it popped open a bit.
senseiturtle 01-20-2006, 02:00 PM You would end up looking sorta like a G6, with those "fins"...
But keep in mind that if you design one, do it so that you avoid the problem that the G6 owners have been having... that any residual water on the roof gets poured into the cabin.
gdirtayyy 01-20-2006, 03:16 PM ahh i get those questions and been wondering the same thing. -_- that would be neat if it did. >_<

haha... that actually happend to me one stupid morning... my dumbass finger opened the moonroof after the last night's rain and all the water poured into the car...
TheQuietThings 01-21-2006, 03:16 PM i think it would look like poop when both were opened. as it is, i cant stand to look at the tC with the roof open, nevermind having them both open.
elemeno 01-23-2006, 02:46 AM After getting the back one off, you would just have to throw on some kind of seal (I've seen them at the local auto store) then find a old car with one of those pop up sunroofs and take that hinge part that you push up. The hard part would be fabing up some hinges and mounting them. I'll be looking into it more. Don't have much $ so it would have to be a DIY.
bdballer69 01-23-2006, 03:13 AM i wouldn't recommend it...another sunroof is asking for more rattles on the top part of our car, it's not like we don't have enough rattles from the sunroof as it is right now
mfbenson 01-23-2006, 03:57 AM ^^^
What he said... plus, you'll have to be very careful about the clearence with the rear window when you open the trunk. I think if toyota would have been able to make it work, it would already open. To them, it probably seemed like more trouble than its worth.
gjpjr84 01-23-2006, 04:09 AM if they did it that way then they would have many people bringing them back because they opened the hatch with the back one open and...... you get the idea.
sensay 01-23-2006, 05:22 AM when the main sunroof is open, the glass slides back. so really there isnt much space up there to open. maybe enough to crack open...
even if it did open all the way, what would be the point if the glass of the other sunroof was ontop of it?
and to the guy that said he cant stand the look of the tC with the sunroof open, ur crazy. The car looks beautiful with it open.

i'm not crazy, we just have different opinions.
sensay 01-23-2006, 06:30 AM and MY opnionion is that YOUR opinion is WHack
ceeyuh
elemeno 01-23-2006, 10:02 AM I dont mean having the rear one slide open, that would def. be stupid. If you could just tilt it open like the first stage in the front one. I don't believe that would have any clearance problems with the hatch, and in my opinion it would look sick with both of them just tilted open.
sensay 01-23-2006, 08:25 PM if the main sunroof is open all the way, there is only like an inch of clearance above the moonroof.
If they were both just tilted, that would be pretty sweet. Liike somebody should make a system were the rear one tilts open like 2 inches, but when the main one opens, it goes down to like 1 inch
xilver 01-25-2006, 07:11 AM yea that would be nice, i actually thought it did before i got my tc
peteyd 01-25-2006, 05:53 PM hmmm would cost a pretty penny to do it i think ill have to look in to it.....when i hit the lottery :D
strep 01-26-2006, 04:44 AM the old toyota paseo had a moonroof with detachable sunroof both being manual. and its about the same size as our 2nd panel back there. a good DIY would be replacing the second moonroof in our tc's with the one on the paseo's. you would have the manual in the back. just an idea...
elemeno 01-26-2006, 03:03 PM u mean replace the whole thing or just use the motor and hinges?
TimmyT 01-26-2006, 04:18 PM There would be little, if no benefit from having the rear portion of the roof open a crack.
Just a waste of money and time. but props if you get it done. At least it will be unique.
strep 01-26-2006, 05:44 PM either or. i didn't even think of just using the hinges but i suppose you could rig it so that u just use the hinges. i really don't see a point in doing it but just throwin some ideas to help u bud.
