Ready for Launch

Prototypes of Toyota’s next generation Tundra pick-up are currently undergoing last cold weather testing in North America before the new model’s launch at the 2006 Chicago Motor Show.

The Tundra came first on the market in 1999, and the new model to come will be an all new vehicle. The 2007 Tundra will be bigger, more powerful and will offer new styling and engine configurations. This all-new Tundra will be built in America at both Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Indiana and the new San Antonio,Texas plants.

Hmmmmm....Looks BIG!

By the looks of that hood line and front grill, they could catch a lot of flak from Ford Super Duty fans.......

Can't wait to see it in person! Finally a FULL SIZE from Toyota!

Hmmmmm....Looks BIG!
Yeah, and that's just the regular cab short bed. There is a truely big-boy planned that's said to make this one look small.

If, that's in fact, what the front-end will look like on the production version, it's more of an evolution of the truck theme Toyota already has on the Tacoma......IMHO.

The next gen of the Tundra is going to have options all the way up to a one ton sized pickup, and is also going to have turbo diesel engine options... to be built in the new San Antonio, TX production facility. It's going to be a freaking awesome truck.
The Tacoma is also getting a heafty re-design for 2007, with rumors of a V8 option, and a smaller deisel as well.

The diesel is a joint development venture between Toyota and Asin..one of it's suppliers. I hadn't heard about the turbo though. Either way, this is said to be a serious engine, with well in excess of 600 ft. lbs. of torque.

As for the V8 Taco? Toyota knew from the get-go that the existing 4.7L V8 would basically drop right in, given it's 4-Runner under-pinnings. I guess we'll have to see if they do it.

Also, rumor has it that a simple hood bulge is all that prevents the 4.7 from being slipped into the new upcoming FJ Cruiser.

In order for Toyota to steal domestic truck buyers from the big three they are going to HAVE to mimic the style that are available right now... while adding more power, capacity, luxury and convenience.... all for just a tiny bit more than the cost of a Ford/Chev/Dodge truck. I think the truck will have to be perceived as a slightly more premium vehicle, like the Titan. I like the look, I think it's fairly conservative but still tough enough to take on the big boys.

That photo of the blue Access Cab is accurate. By the way, the truck will be 79.9 inches wide, because that is as wide as a vehicle can be without requiring clearance lights. Of course, when the dualie comes out, it will have them!
