View Full Version : Oil change at dealer with 2" drop springs
neckbonenick 04-29-2004, 08:17 PM Has anyone had their oil changed at the dealer under maintainence contract when your car was lowered? Do they say anything about it? Will it fit over their lift? I don't want it to void my warranty and further....my dealer offered free tires for life if I had all my maintainence done there. Do you think that the difference in camber would warrant them to say that they had to void that cuz they could say my tires wore quicker?
PRESTIGEScioN 04-29-2004, 08:19 PM that probley will depend on the dealer
NERD_BOX 04-29-2004, 08:32 PM free tires for life????? where???

EVILDAVE 04-29-2004, 08:51 PM Had mine done three times now and I'm dropped with Goldlines 2" and no problems.
neckbonenick 04-29-2004, 08:57 PM Thanks Dave! Anyone else? Whatya think about that whole camber deal?
read my profile to see all the mods that I have. I have been to the dealer 6 times and not one time did they say anything about one of those mods. I also have the goldline springs. I did go in with eibachs and then changed, but still didn't hear anything. Piercey toyota rules!!
usually if the car is too low for a rack, my guys here put it on the alignment rack to do the oil chage. That way they can just drive right up on it.
EVILDAVE 04-30-2004, 01:07 AM Thanks Dave! Anyone else? Whatya think about that whole camber deal?Personaly I'm not into the camber look even though I've owned 12 pre 68 VW bugs. All dropped now thats camber!!
neckbonenick 04-30-2004, 04:20 AM when I say camber I mean 0 camber...so that the wheels are straight up and down.
oil change? come on guys... its called buy you a 2 ton jack at wallyworld and do it yourself... its really not that difficult.. takes a whole 10 - 15 mins if the car is cool maybe 45 if car is hot... cuz i'd leave 30 mins for it to cool off if not more.
and free tires for life... geezus... if you have stock wheels the car is only 108 hp... unless ur spinning the tires at every redlight... (if the tires will spin) ur not gonna need new tires for what 40,000? thats what 2 or 3 years for some ppl depending on how much u drive... for me thats about a 2 years... now with aftermarket wheels its what half that? maybe less depending on the side of tire u get? but i'd assume they would only give u free tires for life if u keep the stock setup or are using the trd wheels.
u probably wont have the car in 2 or 3 years... and if you do... 400 bucks to last u another 2 or 3 years isn't bad... maybe more like i said depending on the tires.
p.s. as far as dealerships go... they can no void your warranty unless they can prove without a doubt that what you did caused the problem ur having....
example... i have a 03 mazdaspeed protege first thing i added as a injen cold air intake, unless somehow they could prove that the intake made the MAF sensor malfunction then they couldn't void the warranty.. or if something go sucked up into the motor throught he throttle body they could void the warranty saying it was the intakes fault.
another example when i added my boost controller, that voided my turbo's warranty becuz i could now play with the pressure. now if the turbo overboost and caused a piston to warp then that would void my warranty becuz i voided the turbo's warranty witht he boost controller... I know first hand cuz this is exactly waht happened it put me 3500 in the whole for a new motor ;)... another reason im ditching the protege for the scion... becuz the car just doesn't run the same with the new motor.
neckbonenick 04-30-2004, 04:50 AM thanks for the infor ryan. I have 18's with the pirelli pzero's, the dealer told me thier tires for life would include those.

hrm.... thats odd i wouldn't think i dealer would do tires for life on wheels that weren't baught from the dealer strange but if thats the case... then i would assume they wouldn't void ur warranty for a 2" drop ur best bet is doing what i do.. get to know the tech that works there outside of the work place and just hit him straight up... "if i bring it in there dropped will u guys void my warranty? or does something have to go wrong b4 its voided?...
usually they can only void if they problem is from the item you added. that being said if u want to be totally safe u'd probably want to put ur stock springs back in b4 hitting the dealership... but like u said they said they'd cover those wheels u have i highly doubt they would void it for lowering... would dependin on the dealership.
tCtech 05-04-2004, 01:53 AM a lowered car will not cause problems with an oil change. any technician usually hates g-rod stuff though. they are usually a pain in the ___ to work on becuase of stupid stuff people rig. not that YOU have stupid ____.
no they don't fit on lifts. you have to put down 2x4s and drive on to them to get them to fit. its doable easily, but again, an annoyance.
the tire deal sounds ridiculous. you're definetly getting hosed by paying thousands on dealer maintenance just for some 15" tires. i doubt they'll cover your new wheels size.

yep, 2x4's or if drive on throw 4x4's at the front, will change the angle of the lift and it will drive right up. a lowered scion is nothing compared to a dropped mr2 with full kit. thats fun...and annoying. gotta love changing oil on these cars though. takes 5 minutes in and out. :) ...better then burning my hand on those lovely 3.3l exhaust manifolds. mmm nothing like hot burning skin in the morning.

It is the same way with Courtesy Toyota over on 60. They will even give you lifetime tires on their 17 and 18" tires...damn good deal. :)
WhitexB 05-20-2004, 01:27 AM Im sure there is some literature they gave your with your "free tires for life" warranty. And I would imagine it would say something or not about altering things on the car that can affect the suspension. Otherwise, they cant just deny a claim.

When you modify a vehicle the warranty for that part is voided. If you have dealer installed lowering springs that is a different story. With lowering springs (you installed) you can forget about a warranty on tires or any suspension parts.
The key is to return the vehicle back to stock before taking it in for service.
cohentcmiami 03-06-2009, 04:25 PM jey how many oil y need for my tc..
