Default Couple stereo questions

First, what is the best place to run a power wire thru the fire wall.

Also, The stock stereo has 6 speakers. Is the stock deck a 6 channel, or are the door and dash speakers components?

I don't have an Xb yet, but if all goes well with the sale of my truck I should be putting the order in, in a week or two.

Thanks
Brian

best place driver side through the rubber groument at the top of the engine bay where the other wires pass through... just do a tiny cut and pass the wire through

Actually you could call it a 4 Channel, the dash and door speakers are wired together and the rears are seperate. Also you can run up to 0 gauge wire through the accessory nubs on the fire wall to the left hand side.

How do aftermarket decks deal with that. That would put a 2ohm load on the deck, right?

I have an aftermarket deck, so I am not sure how it handles it if it is a 2ohm load! But if I am right the dash and door speakers are wired together.

Do you have aftermarket speakers? The stock speakers might be 8ohm each and wired in parallel or 2 ohm wired in series. If you have aftermarket that are 4ohm and wired in parallel that would put a 2ohm load on the deck and that might cause it to overheat and break. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

NO, the OEM wiring to the HU is 4 ohms, the dash speakers are like 13ohms or something & the door speakers are like 7 ohms or something. but they are wired to a 4 ohms load, if you replace the speakers you will need to rewire them, or use an amp.

Hope this helps.

That does help. Would it be better to disconnect the dash speakers and only wire the ones in the doors. Are the wire for the dash and doors seperate at the harness for the stereo?

The dash speakers/tweeters are wired to the front mid in the door. If you're upgrading the HU, just hook it up as is...

I am going to get a new HU and speakers. So if I understand this right, replacing the door speakers automaticly disconnect the dash speakers. It is my experience that dash speakers are next to useless.

Thanks for the info, it has been very helpful

Hear is another question for this post. I have upgrades for the dash and door speakers, can I add a two channel amp to this for more power. I have a upgraded HU also. Since I know the speakers are wired together the amp can handle a 2 ohm load if needed.

^^yes, you can add in an amp to get more from your aftermarket speakers, just make sure the ohm loads match up correctly and adjust the amp properly...

if you are palnning on replacing the speaker DON"T use the Factory Wiring, either rewire them to the HU or run an amp & rewire them to that.

if you are planning on replacing just the door speakers, than you can disconnect the dash speakers & it should be OK, but IMO, should be rewired.

Whats the reason for this? I am going to be adding an amp. Does anyone have an diagram on exactly how do wire the speakers to the amp from the dash and door speakers and HU.

Thx

^^ pretty much, factory wire would suffice if absolutely necessary.... it's just a superbly good idea to put in all new wiring that is all consistant in gauge and type and is all solid pieces.... the fewer splices and connections you have, the less likely to have a short-out..... plus it ensures better conductivity for all signal paths....

What do you mean "rewire"? I am a little confused by that

^^ he's talking about running new speaker wire.... I wouldn't rewire personally unless you're going to add an amp..... If you're just going to run new speakers off of a HU, use the factory wiring...

Ok, from what I am hearing, I think the easiest way, with the best results would be to just disconnect the dash speakers. Is there a cross-over in the door? If so, I can just buybass the crossover and go directly to the speaker, right? or do the dash and door speaker wiring split right at the wire harness for the deck.
I don't really want to run an amp for the fronts. Sorry if I sound a little confused.
Thanks for the help
