Default HMMM looking to get my first car

Well Im about to turn 18 and that means I finally have to buy a car. With gas prices high my parents and I both agree I should get something economical. The target price was 10k, We had looked at used civics and accords but I realized most of the cars that are econmical are too small. Im 6ft 2 and can barely fit in my moms accord. I heard the xb has a lot of room and is pretty economical, only thing is it has no power. Should I spring for an extra 4k and buy an xb or is there something else on the market under that price that I should start with?

There are new cars under $10,000 http://auto.consumerguide.com/Search...ighmsrp/10000/, but you probably would not fit in them too well. I personally did a google search for new cars under $15,000 http://auto.consumerguide.com/Search...ighmsrp/15000/, and there is so much more to choose from. Your question is for you to answer. I personally chose the xb because of the price and because my 6'2" hubby could fit in it comfortably...heck, anyone can fit in it just fine for a compact car. If you are looking for comfort get an xB, if you are looking for a fast car, look somewhere else. I'm 100% happy.
p.s. check out http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/scio...act/index.html, which is also an editor's most wanted vehicle and consumer reports lists it as a good vehicle to buy, which is why the resale value is so high on used xB's.

Go for the xB! It is a very practical vehicle, and has some style to go with it!

I wouldn't say the xB has -no- power, sure has a heck of a lot more than my old Jeep, but it's no sports car.
IMHO, a strapping young lad such as yourself should make his first car as non-sporty as possible to prevent any accidental lead footing, if you know what I mean!

I got rid of my '04 V6 Prerunner in favor of the xB...all I can say is that it is a DELIGHT to drive the xB, it handles VERY well in the corners.

xb is better than the tc, aside from that you might want to wait for march when the yaris comes out and go look into the liftback its just over 10,000 and gets damn good mileage thats what im doin
