ok soo.. not even a month ago, i was pulled over for my tint.. TWICE in a week.

i didnt really worry too much. i was planning on removing the tint, and getting both of em signed off at once. both of my court dates are not till march.

BUT..

earlier tonight i got pulled over AGAIN. for the same thing.. i tried showing him the other two citations hoping he'd cut me some slack but he ended up citing me for vc 24004, FAILURE TO COMPLY. (on top of another tint citation)

i read up on it, and its gonna add a point to my record! i cant afford that! i'm already at 2 points, with one that im going to court for, PLUS this one! thats 4 points total, which equals a suspended license!.. someone help. theres no way im gonna get my license suspended over TINTED WINDOWS!

uh ok you planned to remove the tint but you didn't.... wow, you deserve to get those tickets. clearly when they gave you tickets and you still didn't go take it off. it doesn't take long to take off.

If you weren't due to appear yet, I don't see how he could have written you up for failure to comply. I don't see how you failed to comply if you're not due to appear until March. The is definitely worth appealing to a judge or the court.

Nick06tC

I would say it can go both ways and I see both points. One you are innocent until proven guilty, so they need to wait till the court date to determine if the tint is illegal.

two, you were caught twice so obviously the tint is illegal so you should have removed it to not risk further problems.

So I guess the answer is, what is your tint? What do they allow? Why didnt you remove it after the first ticket?

Nerek

Just take the tint off for good.
If you have that much bad luck being pulled over it should've occured to you earlier.
Stop breaking the law?lol

Were the tickets all from the same municipality? If so, you might could call the head mountie and explain that you assumed you had until March to have the tint removed and you don't see how you have failed to comply with something that wasn't due yet. Remember to act all innocent and crap.

Make an appointment to have the tint removed and tell them you have it scheduled.
Begging is not out of the question...

Good luck.

It sure is nice to know that all the murders and robberies have been solved so the locals can worry about tint.

Oldmanatee is so wise. :)

In Cali, it is illiegal to tint the front driver and passenger side windows. Most cops will let you go if you show them that you already have a ticket for the violation. They'll just find something else on your ride that they don't like and ticket you for that.

It doesn't make sense that you were given a failure to comply when you have another month to.....comply.

Good luck with it.

hey guys, i have 5% tint all around. in cali, ANY % tint on the front windows is illegal, so i just roll with 5%. i mean.. if i a cop wants you for tint, hes gonna get you for tint. doesnt matter if its light, medium or limo.

buttt.. thats not what im so ____ed about. a 'fix-it' ticket has a due date on purpose. to allow you time to fix-it.. right?! at least thats how i thought it was supposed to be. i HAD an appt. to get em taken off at my tint shop. theyre cool and take it off, and reapply it a week later for like 40 bucks. i just havent had time to make it out there. i wasnt in any hurry because the proof of correction isnt due until march!

i actually spoke to someone about it today and he said if i remove the tint, get the tickets signed off, then bring it to court, theyll most likely drop the 'failure to comply' ill let u guys know how it went. thanx.

wow 5% all around and you seriously think a cop was going to let you go? sorry dude that is too dark. if no one has them that dark, what makes you think its ok to have that? totally illegal. i mean with a 35% its already dark and some cops are ok with it. ANY cop that sees 5% will pull you over. They have a law against it for a reason. who knows what the driver can have. i've seen cops bust windows because they can't see what suspects are doing

Sorry but you are trying to beat the system. You deserve the tickets. I am no preacher of dont street race, dont break the laws.. But if I do something wrong, I will own up to it. I wont try and beat the system and blame them for it.

Yes you had time to take it off. But common sense says if your in the wrong, man up and fix it.

I would seriously reconsider putting it back on.. cause if they get you again after you get 3 signed off, you are going to have a seriously ____ed off cop. I'd hate to hear about how you must have bumped your head getting into the cruiser.........repeatedly.

dang, cmon guys. i wouldve thought this forum would have a little more understanding. being car enthusiests and all..

yea, i have an illegal mod, like 90% of this board does. in cali, most mods are illegal. from CAI's to no front license plates. you can get cited for anything! big deal.. you fix it, get signed off, then slap it back on. thats just how we californians have to get around things. and if thats called working the system, then i guess i am. if i wanted to stay 100% legal, id have to be driving a bone stock tc.

this is buggin me because i was given an appearance date for a reason. to allow time to get it fixed.. whether its a week or a month, why would they give me till march.. then write me another ticket a week later?

as far as owning up to tickets i get, i do. i have tint, i know the consequences, i pay the fee, the price of taking it off, and the price of putting it back on. ive actually been cited twice before these 3 and both times, i removed my tint only to get my ticket signed off and tint reapplied a week later. i understand my tint is illegal, and i pay the price of having it. my car is just not the same without it. im in no way contesting the fact that my tint shouldnt be ticketed. yes, i do deserve the correctable violation. im arguing the fact that a 'failure to comply' shouldnt be given to me if im clearly given over 2 months to - comply.

errrrrrr.. either way, ill let u know how it goes.

btw, heres my ride. :lalala:

562, you got a great looking ride there... and I can see your point. Yeah, most of us here have done a few illegal things in our lives, but, I'd still take the tint off and leave it off for at least a little while. It sounds like the cops have a hard on to bust all you tint scofflaws this season.....If they call up your ticket history, they might get nasty.

However, that car would not look good without some amount of tint....

Nick06tC

I agree it looks good with the tint. But it gets to the point that you are breaking the law for the same thing to any times. Its called repeat offender.

THE_DON

Nice ride... But it would look just as nice with 20% or 35% tint. I live in Cali and have rocked front windows with lighter tint for 8 years with no tickets. Having 5% up front in Cali is just a slap in the face to the tint law, and cops will punish you.

And yes, I have been ticketed for loud exhaust, and BEFORE the due date to comply I too have received ANOTHER fix it ticket for the same thing. Until you fix it cops can ticket you every day. It sucks, but that's how it is.

Yes... That one he should definitely fight. The cop probably WAS being a d*ck right there. :nope:

But in Cali you gotta know these things. This guy already said he gets tickets all the time, fixes it, and puts the stuff right back on. Maybe the cop knows about his past tickets or something. Or maybe he gave the cop a bad attitude when he got pulled over. Bottom line is, his problems will go away once he simply peels off his illegal tint. And if he puts it back on (which it sounds like he plans to do) he'll get pulled over again.

Cali tint law is basically:

NO TINT front driver/passenger
Any in the rear

Seems pretty fair. And most people can get away with light tint up front, but rocking 5% is just SO obvious!

Geez, peeps upset w/ the Police.

They are doing a job like others do their job. You know that any mod to a vehicle that is not an OEM replacement is a violation, yet everyone does it. Some get caught and some don't.

Just remember, if you were to get robbed or carjackd, who are you going to call?

Granted, some Officers give Police a bad name, but not all have a bad attitude, were beat up in high school, or are out to make a name for themself.

I became a Police Officer to help people, and put those in jail who need to be in jail, in jail. And to help those who are in need of help, and to keep Parolees and those on Probation, in check.

If you had pride in the job that you did, and you heard others bad mouthing it, how would you feel?

Plus I have fun being on call-outs and driving Code 3!

I Agree.. Why people fear and hate who we pay to protect us?, then the one we should??..

The way I see it The police force and Firemen are our forgotten heroes we take them for granted until we need them... but this is the way I see it... thank them for the days that you did get robbed or stopping those crazy fires.

Come on!!!! I know I gotten a lot of tickets and yeah its for mods... but I know that they're just doing their job, when I get pull over I just do what they tell me to do and speak if they ask me a question. Don't run your mouth that just sets them off specially if they're having a bad day (just like everyone else)

I can go on about this.. :relief: just get the tint off and chill for a while.. I recommend to take of the decalsl too..

actually the WINDSHIELD and FRONT WINDOWS can be tinted 85% (UV tint)

many people get away with tint

so stop flaming this guy

i know a TON of cars not to mention SCIONS with tint and a lot with 5%.

anyways back on topic.
ahhh 3 tint tickets in 1 month....

mayb next time you shoud get a lighter tint because with ur DARK car, 5% sticks out and more PRONE to get pulled over.

i dunno wat to do about them tickets...

Tomas

Skippy, I've seen a lot of people shoplift, too...
Doesn't make it right...
Just probably haven't been caught yet,
or weren't punished enough to get their attention.
I see people speed a lot, too.
And make illegal turns.
I've even seem quite a few accidents.
Just because a lot do it doesn't make it right.
Not even close.
If it is unlawful to do something, I DO NOT want to hear constant whining from people getting tickets for doing it.
I really don't.
The objective is to help you learn that your actions break the law.
The hope is that you will stop.
If the fines aren't big enough to train you, they should get bigger with repeated violations.
The fines should escalate.
Get stopped for 5% tint on your front side windows, get told to take it off.
Get stopped for it again, $100.
Third time, $500.
Fourth time, confiscation.
If you can't learn, you can't learn.
Once you've proved you can't follow the rules, take the toy away.
Trust me, you wouldn't want me making the rules.
Or enforcing them.
I fail to understand the 'sense of entitlement' that makes some people think that it is 'cool' for them to break the law.
Repeatedly.
They can't be that stupid, can they?
Do they just feel the laws don't apply to them?
Do they feel thay are above the laws?
Do they really have a justification for doing something contrary to law that is better than "I just wanted to do it?"
Whatever.
The constant whining is tiresome.

sorry dude, when you get a ticket, you have to fix it ASAP. they give you a date like a deadline and continue to do it. just like the other example of speeding. you get a ticket for speeding and then you get a court date. does it mean you can continue speeding until the court date? i don't think so.

Just take the tint off and make your court appearances. Have a written appointment for your tint to be removed.
Tell the judge. Your an idiot and didnt want to ruin your windows taking off the professionally installed tint "nudge nudge wink wink" and that at the time you were waiting for your appointment to get it removed. He will probably throw them out or reduce it. Just make sure you make your court appearances.

I want to tint my car. In wisconsin the law states 50% front windows 35 rear side and you can spray paint the back as long as you haave 2 side mirrors. You can even use metallic tint. So i go to a tint shop. He doesnt have mirror so he tells me its illegal so I call the local cop shop. And they tell me all tint is illegal unless the factory did it, and if i tint my windows its probable cause to search my car
So to avoid any hassles Im just not going to tint

So your telling him to lie??

Excelent example to set. He knows what he did was wrong and didnt care. he didnt have the intentions of removing it. HE NEEDS TO PAY.

I agree with Thomas. There are laws for a reason. If he cant MAN UP and pay the price, then he doesnt deserve to drive.

Man up to what? Higher insurance premiums, loss of license.
Like cops dont lie? Police told me having tint on my car was probable cause to search my vehicle. A big WTF? Yeah there are laws for a reason, and sometimes there are laws for no good reasons. Tell me who mans up when a police officer lies about the reasons for a stop? Was he pulled over for tint or was he pulled over because a police officer couldnt satisfy his curiosity about who was inside the car? Tell me who was manning up at the local police station when the desk sergent told me that no tint at all was allowed when in fact Wi law says I can have it? But seriously man, I would have towed your car if i was the popo. Reason being first of all its illegal in Cali to have any tint except the clear UV film on the fronts. And your "bold" enough to drive around at night with 5% on? Wow. With 5% its a serious danger not only to yourself but to others on the road/pedestrians and any else you might come across.

I am not so innocent myself, but I just "push" the limit. I have maybe 40% up front and its like a light grey. Backs are 15%. I never get hassled for my tints. I guess there is a smart method and a stupid way to do it. Be smart about it next time.

Ok but his situation was not your situation. The cop didnt lie to him.

To MAN UP is to face responsibility. He was told multiple times by cops to take it off. He didnt listen. He obviously has no respect for the authority. Now he must pay.

Dont confuse your situation with his.

ABSxbOX

I think that you are making a good decision to lighten up the tint, there is reasonable tint on the front windows that most cops wont get you for, The whole thing with that is you have to be able to see your side mirror clearly. I mean I have seen people with only half the window tinted at a diagonal angle, the largest part by you and the thinnest down by the mirror \ at that angle but with your rep, I would stray away from super dark in general. As for fighting... only 3% of ticketed people fight their tickets. That is how the city gets their money, that is their income. If most people would fight, they would find that they would either get it dismissed, um have their fine lessened, they most of the time give you some break. I went into court to fight a tix once, the cop showed up and I won my case. You wanna know what for...running a stop sign. It is worth it to fight. But don't be a punk, dress nice, dont have your pants hanging below your a**, Always say yes maam, no maam, etc, be as disgustingly polite as you have ever been in your life. if they ask why your window are so dark, tell them something like it wins you trophies and its your passion if he/she gives you a chance to talk talk about it like it's the greatest thing on earth and it keeps you away from doing drugs and making bad choices. they want to hear those things and if they can help prevent you from doing drugs, not to say you do (cause they can't tax on drugs and it makes them no money) they will lean in your favor for it. It always works for me. and I am one of those "if I am wrong, write me a tix" or "if you write me a tix and you are wrong, I'll see you in court" But do yourself a favor and just leave it off for a bit and then put some on but definetly a lot lighter like 35% you don't want to keep getting in trouble. My fiance says when he gets his xb he is gonna black out the windows but he's got another thing commin, just take care of it, it will still look good with lighter, it will keep you out of trouble and come on, limo tint or not, you still have a pretty sleek lookin car, and lighter tint isn't gonna change that.

Thank god i live in AZ where the cops dont really bother you for tint cuz if you didnt have it you would melt and get 3rd degree burns on your steering wheel.

I have 5% all the way around which is still illegal here but normally you don't get busted for it unless they're looking for a reason to pull you over to look in your vehicle. I hope my luck holds out cuz it looks awesome and makes such a difference.

I already have about a 12 inch strip on my windshield but I'm been thinking about having the whole windshield tinted about 60% and then putting the 5% strip on the top still to make it darker and get rid of the glare while driving but it's already pretty dark inside my car..........opinions?

Holy sh** peeps dang! moving violations and car parts are two entirely different things. Cops are not stupid, letting off the throttle can be done instantly. Removing tint or a muffler takes a little longer than that. Ok when i had this prob i was told i have 30 days to remove the illegal part and tinting. Now that is Unless it was deemed unsafe to drive by the officer and he will let you know right then, in that case the cop can decide to tow your vehicle. now if i waited past that 30 day point then i would get a failure to comply and a point on would go my record. The court date is to settle as far as the fines and such and to make sure you complied with the law and went to the ref to check out and sign off on your car . I asked my friend that is a cop and he said that they DO NOT expect you to fix it the same night you get the violation, Or in even a week. They expect the fix to be done by a proffesional shop that will make your car legal. Maybe the cop jumped the gun and gave you that failure to comply premature, maybe you were being a d*ck to him for doin his job, heck he might have had a bad morning. And 5%!?! you were asking for a ticket bro sorry you knew it was coming, and your car looks like a target.... it attracts attention. Don't be stupid and put on the same dark tint, be realistic. Regardless we all have rules to follow you got caught be smart and fix and don't do it again. And most police i have met operate under the "spirit " of the law they will leave you alone as long as you are not all stupid and driving dumb or go drive on a full enforcement night in a certain part of town. And for the love of god don't do something so illegal that it is like a slap in the face of a cop.

She put it the best. I bet you keep your fiance in line.

*whip cracking noise.

^ This is good advice. The only thing I would change is go easy on the smoke/B.S. These people hear it all the time and can see right through it. Look them in the eye and tell them you planned to remove it just have'nt had the time or money(whichever is true).

Plan B: Go postal and show them who's really boss!!! :eyes:  :eyes:
(This is only an option and not a recommendation I take no responsibility for his actions)

Unless the judge is a total jack@$$ he's not going to take your license over tint. But then again I'm not from cali.

Since i got my ticket i allready took care of it. I removed my tint about a week ago and payed the court the fix-it fines. $15 for the cop to look at it and $10 for filing fees. Yesterday i got my 5% put back on my driver/pasenger sides. I can't stand driving a car with no tint. It only cost me $30 for the tint shop to put it back on.
