Default xA cig lighter where the heck is the wires!

Ok I spent the past two hours looking for a thread on how to get to the wires for the cig lighter on an xA. Obviously looking to tap into power for some under dash lighting, will work off switch yada, yada no issue... Problem, I can't seem to locate how to get to the wires on my xA it is not the same as xb or tC and I am sleepy now... I am pretty good at this, just new to this car.

The wires are there, they are just hidden a bit. To get to the wires you need to remove the two vertical silver trim pieces on either side of the center console. Once that is complete you will notice that the center section of the dash is devided up into sections, the "oven", the ashtray/lighter compartment, and the lover storage bin. The ashtray/lighter unit is held in with friction clips, generally all you have to do is CAREFULLY pull the unit out. Pulling too hard may rip the wires out of the lighter unit.

I used the lighter wires to hardwire my Radar Detector into my car.

Thanks hornet! Couldn't remember if it was screws or clips, so I went with the clips.

A #2 phillips screwdriver and a light tug of the unit and you should be good to go, xternal!

Thanks. I was thinking I was going to have to remove the silver trim. I have been a little hesitant because I tend to break plastic peices. I am not a very good interior worker. I'll build up some nerve this weekend and see if I can give this a shot.

Thanks guys!

ok so I gave this a shot, and shorted out the radio and lighter justa fuse so its all good. I am thinking of moving to an empty fuse and grounding on a screw underneath somewhere any suggestions would be apreciated. Also while I there was wondering, if I ran a wire from the positive terminal on the new switch I have to the oven light positive, will this work?
