These are not my dyno results, I got these from Import Tuner's June 2004 Magazine:

Scion xB:

Dyno 1 - Baseline
Air Temp @ 71 Degrees F
PEAK HP: 82.8 PEAK TORQUE: 87.5

Dyno 2 - AEM Cold Air Intake
Air Temp @ 73.0 Degrees F
PEAK HP: 87.7 PEAK TORQUE: 91.7
+4.9 HP and +4.2 Torque

Dyno 3 - DC Sports Exhaust
Air Temp @ 75.0 Degrees F
PEAK HP: 88.6 PEAK TORQUE: 91.8
+5.8 HP and + 4.3 Torque

Dyno 4 - DC Sports Header 4-1
Air Temp @ 76.5 Degrees F
PEAK HP: 89.6 PEAK TORQUE: 92.0
+6.8 HP and +4.5 Torque

Just in case someone asks, and I know the will, these dynos are at the wheel...

I may be incorrect, but I don't think you can just add up the numbers of the individual mods to get the full on numbers... were the last numbers (combined mods) somehting that was published? cuz it don't sound right to me.

Actually I did that...I'll fix it right now...forgot about that, I would need another dyno to proivde the results of all three modifications...

I will have to check out this issue. Is it someones xB that we know? Or is it just another xB that they got?

I just bought that issue on my lunch break.

I am extreemly disapointed but not suprised. Almost $900 in parts ("street price") for a paltry 6.8hp gain (about 9hp in the mid range). As I have been saying-the aftermarket missed the mark on this one!!!!

It's not a very good article. They don't tell you how many pulls they did in each configuration, they don't tell you if they reset the ECU to baseline for each test. Did they allow the ECU to learn a little and adjust for the modifications before each pull? I have personally seen the difference in results as the ECU adapts to modifications as more pulls are made on the dyno.

There are just too many variables for this to be a decent representation of the gains possible. I say drive it a few days and retest using the SAE correction factors for weather (not perfect but better than what they did!). I would bet the overall gains would be larger.

I am glad to see they don't harp on the "Peak HP" number too much and even commented on the mid range gains that are much more useable.

OK, I'm off my soap box...

But I'd say that introduces a whole different bunch of variables like temperature, humidity, etc etc. SAE corrections? Maybe.

That's cool that people recognize the importance of good midrange. :)

they could always do the dyno runs in a controlled enviroment.
Not that it would be inexpensive but it is possible to do it at the exact same temp and humidity(air pressure would require a bit of wacthing)

I just got back from a car show in Melbourne Florida (Cars For Charity) and had by XB dyno'd just to see if what the dealerships are telling us is true. My 2004 XB is a stock engine with AEM cold Air and DC Sport headers, Auto trans and Borla catback exhaust. The dyno was 83 hp. Very disappointing!! I know I have a set of big chrome wheels and auto trans, but I was expecting to be at least 100 hp. There were at least 10 other XB owners there watchin and we just didn't know what to say. I believe that the dyno operator did an agressive job of getting on it, but that was all the little engine could do.....

I did win low HP run of the event hands down, but that is not something to be proud of.

putt putt putt putt putt puttttttttttt

Here are picture of the dyno run.

After talking to some other XB owners, who are in the know, they said that those are numbers we can all expect to see. It was 108hp at the crank, 95hp at wheels (with stock steels and 15" tires). Add huge and heavy 18'' wheels and numbers go way down, and in reality the cold air and headers don't have that many pluses. In the end we end up with around 85-90 hp at the wheels. The only way to get any better is with a supercharger or torbo. More air in equals more hp's, but remember we are working with 1500cc here, don't get hopes up to much.

Best part is that the XB is very light and the power to wieght ratio climbs quikly with a light wieght car. It would not take many more hp's for the XB to much more peppy.

I didn't buy my xB to be a speed machine. I have fun driving it, and I love the way it looks.
