Fog lights: Toyota Japan Vs. Toyota USA
I want to order fog lights for my xB by the end of this week. NewScionParts.com has both the Toyota Japan fog lights and the Toyota USA fog lights on their site. Besides the difference of the switches, is there any difference in the lens itself. I called Carson Scion (www.newscionparts.com) and asked them the question. The guy I spoke with had no idea.
If anyone has pictures, besides the ones on the scion website, (because those arent too helpful) please post.
I tried the search, but maybe I'm an idiot.
Thanks in advance
Dave

I have been wanting the Japan fogs too. I was told that the lens isn't different, but the inside of the housing is chrome or silver on the Japan ones and the US fogs are just grey inside. I guess it is what gives the look of the US fogs being smoked.
Thanks for the quick responses.
I would still like to see pics of both (Preferably with the lights off).
I recently did the clear corner mod from the tech section and if the JDM fogs are more clear, I would probably go with that.
Thanks again

Those images didn't work matty... You should use something different than IE to get image address information.
Here's a Toyota bB with the JDM fogs

Scion xB USDM

I tried to get the same angle and color for you Dave but was limited in the choices available.

the USDMs are just plug and play but not the JDM ones. it requires some wiring modifications. while trying to do that i ended up breaking the switch.
another difference is that the JDM switch illuminates the foglight symbol green.

Thanks for the pics guys.
I'm going to go with the JDM ones.
I'm not worried too much about the switch because I'm going to tie them into the parking lights. That way I wont need a switch at all.

Here's a pic of mine, with a camo xB with US versions in the same pic (sorry 'bout the angle).
The JDM ones have a reflective housing on the inside, and a push-button illuminated switch.
The US ones have unpainted gray plastic on the inside, and a toggle switch.
I wired mine to the cig lighter so that I can turn them on at any time with no other lights, and often use them as daytime running lights. They are actually pretty bright, and light up the road well at night--unlike the US versions.
I never understood why they changed them for us Americans :?

Thanks Wagen.
I'm def gonna get the JDM ones.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I want to wire it to my parking lights so that they come on when I turn on my headlamps without using a switch.
Does anyone know the legalities of that? I can't imagine it being illegal, but I have seen more ridiculous laws out there.

When you say that the USDM ones are plug and play is there no switch for them? what do they light up with? do they come on with the parking lights or just the headlights?

SORRY for all the questions.

Yes, stock wiring of the US market fogs allows them to come on only when the headlight low beams are on (they go off with the highbeams).
The fog switch chooses them to be on only with the low beams or off all the time.
(Some state laws actually require that behavior - in fact that is required by law here in Washington state. Stupid, maybe. The objective is to prevent them from being used instead of headlights at night, and to allow them to be used only for fog - which means only with low beams, not high.)
The JDM lights look and appear to light things up much better than the US market lights.
