Default GM alternator question

i've hear a lot of people talking about putting a GM alternator in the scion xb. Can you just swap them out like that and if so will everything still work properly? I mean electronicly on the car. Has anybody done that yet? If so what amp level did you go up to?

read my post about HO alts. i put in 250 amp. they will help you with everything
