Default 2006 tC to 2006 WRX???

so currently im considering trading in my 2006 tC for a 2006 WRX TR. My buddy's got and 06 WRX and is convincing me to join him. the 06 WRX's come with new 2.5l sti engine, upgraded suspension and brakes, upgraded bullet proof transmission and sweet new styling. quarter mile times for a stock 06 WRX are said to be mid to low 13's. just wanted to know what every in the scion world thought. feel free to state your opinion.

thanks

I traded my tC in for a WRX. An '03 though, since IMO the '06 front end and tails are hideous.

Trade in value for the tC is pretty good though. If a WRX is what you really want, go for it.

LOL, everyone that has the old WRX always thinks theirs is better than the new one. Come on, be real. The new one is much nicer!

^^^No, it really isn't. Not just the new WRX, but the tribeca too, since they share the same cues.
They are ugly now, and the older ones look much better.

do it.

the only thing the tC has that the WRX doesnt, is the sleek look.

Otherwise, it handles better, has better accleration, and holds 4.

I have to tell you, that the transmission is the same one that they have been using.

I love the WRX, but i love my tC more.

if you can afford gas and insurance for WRX, then go for it.
If I could, I know I would...

WRX tranny is not bad, its the people who abuse it and/or don't know how to drive an AWD car.

Just make sure that if you do go the WRX route, don't get the TR. Just get the regular WRX. The TR (tuner ready) is missing a bunch of stuff that if you were to add back onto the car would cost way more than a stock WRX, which has all the missing stuff standard. Stuff like fogs, spoiler, body colored side mirrors (instead of black), auto climate control, and the 6 - disc changer.

Just my .02

I own a 2005 WRX and I think I may be trading in for a 06 WRX here soon, either that or the 2006 Legacy GT. Not sure yet.

From what I understand they did strengthen the synchros in first gear in the new transmission but it's otherwise identical. The new 2.5l engine is underrated at 230hp. People are dynoing around 205-210whp which with AWD drivetrain loss equals about 260-270hp. Obviously the ceiling for reliable mods will increase with the new motor as well, probably to somewhere around 350hp. The premium package also now comes with leather and a standard security system.

I'm just really sold on the Legacy GT right now. WRX-performance in a near-luxury sedan, for around the same price as a premium package WRX. The latest Road and Track posted a 13.7 quarter mile stock. Add in a reflash and turboback exhaust on that thing, and we're in business. Sleeper style.

how much would it cost you to trade in your tc for an 06 WRX? if the tc was fully paid off?

If you havent bought the tc then I would say whichever one is a good choice. Really, changing your mind like that would just make the dealer happy. You will lose alot of money man. Be real! Stick with what you bought unless you really hate the car. Drive your tC for a while and buy something later on. What a waste of money because once you drive your new car out the dealer lot, youll lose alot of money right away.

so its cheaper to trade in a not fully paid off car than it is to trade in a fully paid off car?

I skipped the Tc(after waiting awhile for one) and got a used bugeye wrx and in no way do I regret it. The wrx has forever altered my expectations of what I want out of a car. In short I'm ALL DONE with fwd.

That said the Tc is still a great car value and unless you own it outright buying a wrx is (financially) a mistake. If you do don't trade in! sell it on your own!

I dunno about a 13sec 1/4.

everyones pretty much right though.
don't buy the TR its a WASTE when for 500 more you get far more than 500 dollars worth of stuff. now if the TR rang up at 19999 it would be a different story. also a the TR's base price you might be able to cozy up to an 04 sti! alas corporate subaru decisions are seldom smart.
the new front end is funky but the new tailights are atrocius! it looks like they outsourced to apc or something.
the 06 tranny is different and far better than the "glass" tranny in the early wrx's the issue being with the synchros and ALOT of first time manual transmission drivers.
ultimately the legacy gt is a better car for the money as well. stealth factor plus lower insurance rates pay for them selves in more ways than one.

well to answer any questions. im going to be selling my tc for about 18 or 19k. the wrx will be about 5k more out the door. ill be getting the TR because ill oventually be changing everything out any way. plus all the places ive gone to anything above the TR is about 3-4k more and i want to keep my payments around 300. and i would consider a used sti but im just in love with the new 06 design.
