Default Sony Playstation installation

I just wanted to know if anyone has installed a Playstation under the pasenger seat of their xb. And if so does it skip while driving. I would like to put one of these in for my kids. I would be installing head rest monitors and felt that this would be the most cost effective way of doing a game system and dvd player.
Thanx :D

The DVD unit might skip as the PS2's drive isn't known for sturdiness. I still think it would be just fine in the long run. As for the games, you'll probably not notice a difference in them as the drive is not ALWAYS streaming data off-disk as it would with a DVD movie or music CD.

I'd recommend that you put some padding under the unit just to try to minimize shock to it.

One last thought; they don't do well with high heat. Make sure to remove the PS2 when not in the car, or you'll be likely to damage it. Also make sure the exhaust fan (rear of the PS2 on all current models) isn't blocked and that the forward area intakes are likewise unblocked.

Happy gaming!

I had a PS2 in my truck for a long time. It was mounted to the floor and I never really had a problem with it.

I would recommend something bigger then headrest monitors though. if the kids want to play split screen games (racing or the like), they are going to have a really hard time seeing the screen.

I've seen a few, pretty nice, 14 to 15.4 drop downs on eBay for less then $600. Even saw a 17" drop down for just over 600 (though it didn't have the highest resolution, it would be more then enough for this). These would be a bit less straining on the young ones eyes.

I can say this though, I won't be putting a PS2 in my xB. I'll most likely be installing an xbox. While it's bigger, it is a more sturdy unit. I've been debating installing two, linking them together, and allowing for network play, in the car.

I installed under the front passenger seat where the front of the playstation is facing towards the front of the car.

It's almost a year and 28k miles since I installed it and had no problems on skipping while driving. I too installed the headrest monitors and they work really well specially on long drives.

I chose headrest monitors because the flipdown is a bit high for my 6 year old son to view which would cause a neck fatigue from looking up.

Thanx for all the input The reason I will go with the ps2 is I have 2 of them and around 60 games. The x box would be cool but the games I already have and all the games my son likes are not available on the x box. My main concern was the skipping issue and it seems that it is not really an issue at all. Where did you mount the power converter for the playstaion and did you hardwire the sound or are you using an fm signal converter?

suggetsions:

- u can wrap the system w/ velcro ( absorbs shock ) and stick it to the floor
- u can use L-brackets and mount it tight ( u can add foam padding underneath as well
- build a box ( MDF ) w/ a drop-in slot just tight enough for the system

BTW I've done all three and they pretty much got the job done right

PEACE

I've got PS2 in my ride. Check out the pics in my signature link. It's bolted tight to the floor. It has never played a movie, not even in my house, so I can't tell you how it plays DVD's, but I dont have issues with games not working at all. It's in a nice enclosure, and the power switch was rerouted into my panel with the fogt light switch.
