Default What mods would you do with 4K?

Hello everyone...Im not an xB owner yet...but I had a question.

I did a mock build of an xB that I would like, and with the spoiler, armrest, and LED lights my xB would come in around 16k.

I want to do mods but only want to spend a total of 20k. So what would you guys buy for mods if you had 4k to spend. Don't count labor, I would do most of the work either myself or a buddy of mine who owns a shop.

Is 4k enough for a decent set of wheels(17"or 18"), exhaust (header, and cat back), intake (CAI?), springs and shocks?

Thanks for the advice.....

air ride, supercharger, wheels.

H/E is really so cheap, you could do that later.

$1000---> Rims/tires
$1200---> D2 Coilovers
$1000---> Leather interior
$1000---> Stereo

That's just what i would do. Then after that go back and do the cheaper stuff when you can like I/H/E, shims, etc.

More than enough there bro.

-"Decent" set of 17s or 18's to me aren't anymore more than $900-$1100 (My 18's were only $1080 mounted, balanced, and shipped to my door)
- Exhaust--> Header-----> $300
Axle-back--> $300
-CAI--> $250
-Springs--> No more than $200
-Struts/shocks---> $300 for TRD's or $600 for koni's, etc.

but then again, if you did the springs, you're not gonna get very low...2" is the deepest drop (don't start) and that's not much on a box... so springs/shocks/struts puts you in the nieghborhood of 500 -800 bucks, and you can start talking about coilovers getting you down 3"...

air setup is around a grand, I think FBI has a good kit, check the suspension forum.

as far as header, i'd only do te DC ceramic, no more than 230

and I stand corrected on the SC, that's 2700 by itself, but you could do that and the airbags for 4K I'm sure.

ya, but the tein coilovers only bring you down to about 2.6" - if you can drop 2" for 150 bux, is the extra half inch really worth another 600?

and the FX1CAI...ghetto imo

No it's not. The extra $600 is for the capability to adjust that height whenever you want.

hey, why don't you stick to guage faces, chadfo! j/k
(fyi geekster, chadfo makes some SICK guagefaces for the box, and it's a LOT less than 4k)

totally true. if adjustability if important, it makes a pretty strong case for air, imo.

2" drop springs - $150
2.6" max coilovers - $750
low as hell air ride - $1200
(i bet you thought I was gonna say 'priceless')

Stereo, stance, wheels, and speed. In that order.

Figure about a thousand for a decent stereo (HU, a couple amps, components, a good 12" sub, ipod integration if you're into that, installation supplies).

Throw down like a thousand for some coilovers and another 1200ish for wheels that you like.

Speed could go anywhere from 200 bucks for a CAI to 2500 for a supercharger. This isn't really a speed demon of a car, so I wouldn't go overboard on this one.

Leather is always nice, you can install that yourself for about 700 (autoleathers.com).

Dang...choices...choices.....

Only bad part about air suspensions, the tank and other hardware will take up my trunk where I keep my golf clubs....HA!

Also, I don't know if I want to drop my ride too much. Chicago is covered with pot holes and crappy roads. I still have to drive this car to work everyday and want it driveable.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!!

In that case, get a set of nice 16 or 17 inch wheels, some tien H techs, and spend the $800 you save on a nice vacation or something.

when I bought my xB, I too had some cash in reserve and thought of all the ways I could spend it. I only wish now I had someone then to share a bit of experience. so here's mine to you.

the car will be standing still just as much, if not more, as it will be moving. when it's standing still you, more often than not, will not be in it. and so...

wheels and stance will give you the most bang for your buck. I spent about $1000 on rims and tires. I wish I had spent $2000. then I wouldn't be driving around or looking at my car in the garage or parking lot, wishing I had this rim or that rim or a bit more lip. I don't have as much cash on reserve anymore, but I do have a beautiful wife who thinks I've spent just about enough on my "Asian girlfriend". do a ton of homework and get the rims you really want. if they cost more - it's worth it. some nice JLines, or Works or even Axis rims will not only satisfy you, but will give hours of viewing pleasure to those looking at your car.
coilovers. coilover will give you far more ride options than springs. driving it everyday to work - adjust them up for that elegant ride feel. going out for a night on the town - drop 'em for that agressive and semi-exclusive look and feel. coupled w/ a nice set of wheels, it's vey hard to beat.

next, do the whole I/H/E thing. if you're gonna drive it everyday like I do, then you'll want a little umpf under the hood. plus it'll help on the MPG and the ego. what could be better than saving money and sounding fast?

then, spend the rest on creature comforts. sound and lights are great, but so is a new shift ****, or some gauges.

look, modding this car is pretty damn easy. there are a million things you can do and almost all of them can be done by you. there's a tech section and 1000's of wonderful people on here to help you out. there's nothing like getting what you want and then installing it yourself. then the car is truely yours - you took it apart for Pete's sake and put it back together. and Look! - the new under the dash lights work, and "yes, that's a new dash switch that looks just like it came from the factory, but nope - I installed it." "yeah I picked out those rims and wrapped 'em w/ 215/40/18's - yep 40's - just to be a little different and give me just a bit more rubber on the road."

the possiblities are endless on how you spend the $4000. just make sure you get what you really want. trust me.

Spend (at least) half on a paint job.
