Hi guys, a friend is looking into getting a tC and I told him it's an awesome car and great value, I also told him that when I saw it in the showroom it had steering wheel with leather wrap. That was in '05.

We went to a Scion dealership and the tC has stereo controls but no leather. Do you think I was seeing too much last year or they changed it ?

if you have a leather wrapped steering wheel, shouldnt the whole interior be leather?

If that was the case, the cost of the car would have shot up significantly, and we know, that scion is trying to keep the cost of these cars as low as possible.

My '06 is leather. I got the leather interior, but I'm sure the wheel was already leather???

my scion seems to have a leather steering wheel. i don't think it's true leather though, i think it's like a leatherette.
i have an 05...so that doesn't really help you at all

I have an 05 too, and you're right, its not real leather.

Maybe thats the misunderstanding most of us are having.

Guys, thansk for the reply. I know what you're talking about, it's leatherette, but it looks and feels like leather. My friend told me it was just plastic. I think he's crazy, he's confusing it with the xB/xA.

I believe mine is leather in my 06.I have a leather interior. But I think all their steering wheels are leather. Maybe you are thinking of the 2 tone leather wheel that is an option?

no tc steering wheel comes with leather. the only leather steering wheel that the factory offers is the two-toned leather wheel. black and light grey in color.

heres a pic..

yes the 05s had the leather wheel as an option

there was no option for my 06 to have the leather wheel at first, but they have since added one

the 05's are really not leather..it feels like a rubbery plastic more then leather. i put a black wheel cover over it just so i could better grip the damn thing cuz its so slippery.

bro are you reading the posts?

you can get a two tone leather steeting wheel, as an option, and pay more money.

stock 05 steering wheels are not leather, we've made that point already and i thought we all understood.

I have an 05 Tc, and it's not leather. As previously mentioned, you have to pay for the two tone leather steering wheel if you want real leather. The black leatherette is stitched like as if it's real but it's not. I guess some kids are confused because it's their first car. The 06 has the same stock wheel as the 05. The two tone is a pretty expensive option for just leather..$299.

Has anyone had real leather stitched on? I saw some sold online for about $45. Real leather gives you much better grip than the low grade leatherette/plastic that is used on the stock wheel.

If the '06 is indeed not leather - I can't tell - I'm actually glad.
Leather steering wheels start to look like shyte with not too much use.
Oils and gunk from hands make it look bad over time. I guess that's one reason why my Porsche friends use driving gloves - or is it to look cool? :)

You might feel that your are not confused, but you're confusing people that are reading your post.

O5 Tc s do not have leather as standard equipment, it's leatherette.

06 has the exact same lethearette steering wheel, but the changes are with the audio control next to the airbag. Those changes have nothing to do with the actual steering wheel itself. You can still buy the two tone leather steering wheel for the 06 from Toyota as an option, for 299 from Toyota or 219 online.

Toyota didn't do a leather to leatherette switch as you may have suggested between the 05 to the 06 model. Anyways peace.

it's close enough to leather for me. As Scott said above, real leather looks like crap after not a lot of time.

lasts longer if you dont touch it with greasy hands from hamburgers and fried chicken.

for those of you that eat all that junk :P
