Default The most performance gain mods without turbo or s. charger..

I've got a 05 BB and I'm on a perfromance quest without the turbo or supercharger ....for now....

So far I've got (factory 5 speed) custom short air intake, header, cat back exhaust,

woopdy doo.... I have noticed some power free'd up with those little mods...placibo or not....

So here is my plan for the future as far as engine related goes...(I've got my suspension tuned in pretty good minus some more frame stifining)

2 inch or so header to cat exhaust
a modest shot of nitrous 20 or 30 hp
underdrive or at least light weight pulley or pulleys
fuel rail and injectors to help the nos
and some new gauges to monitor oil, water, etc. for safe measure

Has anyone tried these mods together... I'd think that they would help free up some horsepower and us guys with the box can use all we can get....

That sounds like a good plan man. Completing the exhaust section between the header and cat will help you out a little bit more. The cheapest thing you can do on that list, with the best bang per buck mod, will be an underdrive pulley set. I would highly recommend www.NonStopTuning.com

Why bother? I mean they were made to get good mpg. If you want to go fast, get something thats made for it and use the box for what it is intended for. Looking Cool and hauling 4 people in comfort.

It never hurts to have more power. We all know they aren't fast.

True that, but why sacrifice mpg for a little HP. They go quite nicely as is. I mean if you wanted to go faster why not get something that responds to bolt-on's better in the first place. Unless you go all the way with a turbo or blower . Most of the other stuff is waste of money for the performance gains you get with these little motors.

I think a lot of people here have had fast cars at one point or another. I had a modded 2000 Camaro SS that was very fast and an old fox body mustang that ran well also. I got sick of the tickets and the gas prices so I got the xB but the desire to tweak it is still there. I know it's not a fast car and I don't need it to be but these little cars do handle well and their low weight means even a small gain in power can make a difference. Like proctorsilex said, it's a hobby.

the only way you are gonna have a true impact on the MPG is if you ad a turbo or a supercharger. i'm not really sure about nos though. some of these mods might actually help your mpg

Try telling this to about 80% of the scionlife comunity.... Why bother?? because its REALLY FUN!!! Being able to install all these parts in my own house, being able to tune and learn more and more about cars as i go, even better. Cars are my life, wether they do 0-60 in 3 seconds or 30 seconds, i dont care, its what you learn that counts. Besides those really fast cars are dangerous and very easy to loose control in (if you dont know what u r doing). Sometimes im glad my xA is so slow, if it was any faster i would have killed myself long time ago. In my case, i dont need to go fast i just need to be able to stop from 60-0 in 50 feet and be able to do a slalom at 85MPH, j/k ridiculous numbers, you get the idea. This car handles like a dream and its REALLY easy to drive. Im pretty much done with my suspension im just missing rims and camber plates. If you want all SHOW and NO GO be my guest, but if you really want to have in our slow cars, then go to short track and kill a few mini coopers and BMW while your at it.

Modding IS fun. I 100% agree. The part I said is why bother to is adding stuff like lightweight pullys and stuff like that. You won't see enough performance to make it worth the $$$$
CAI and exhaust you do see gains so they are worthy of spending $$$ on.
Yes, It is Extreem Fun Modding these things.

To those who say why not get something faster to begin with...well I have a v-8 64 falcon and I've had other high hp rides in my day. My point is this is my family car but I'd still like to have a little fun with it. I would like to have a little more power to back up the looks....I 'd still like to be the fastest xb in town.. I know I'll never keep up with the srt 4s, evos, or sti's....or even a civic with a turbo....but it is still fun to tune what you've got...and this thing would be fun in the autocross....

I'd highly consider a turbo or supercharger but there is a big jump in price between the few mods I've mentioned up top compared to the turbo and supercharger and the parts to go along with them....

just trying to have some fun...

^^^^Im not to sure about the turbo, but i think the greddy supercharger would be VERY nice. Ive heard just way to many problems related to our computer and turbo charging. The whole issue with having to swap ECU's gives me a headache. Unless you really want to go all out and spend like $4,000 - $5,000 for just 150WHP, not worth it.

go for some NST pulley's. they will give you a lot better throttle response.

why get an underdrivin pulley then put on a overdrivin pulley. why not just get one lightweight crank pully like agency or perrin. no need to by two items......save some money

I agree with Origanis. Not to mention the fact that there is a group buy through Peruzzi Scion right now for a Perrin pulley for $115 shipped!

Dude, there is a guy over in the clubxb.com that got his block bored out and got 11:1 pistons and he dynoed at 128 hp!! (he also has the I/H/E setup) He has tickets posted on there showing times of 14.9 in the 1/4 mile...all this on an AUTO! No nitrous or nothing. I dont care what these speed critics say, THATS a fast 1/4 mile time for a 4 cylinder with no FI or nitrous. This car CAN be fast, it all depends on the size of your wallet, period.
