Default Over-Revving

I had a really quick question. I know over-revving is bad but does it really damage the car if I just over-revved once on first gear? Thanks..

No, it will be fine! I used to do it regularly when I was learning how to race my nissan sentra, just don't make it a habbit lol! I believe the tc's redline is 6500 so you'll get there pretty quickly, I've learned to kind of time my shifts so that I don't over rev

If you're revving your engine too high, constantly, it'll be determined that it's your fault for failure and you won't get any warranty fix.

yup. warranty just means toyota will do EVERYTHING in their power to prove it was your fault, if its a major issue. thats why im debating wheter its worth it getting the trd supercharger, for the same price as a turbo is worth it.

I laughed when I read the first quote. Realize that the warrantee is there to protect people that do not over rev. I would bet money that your ecu records if you over rev your car

It may do that, but i dont think they could use it as a determination of weather or not they will value your warantee. Like say if you accidentaly misshift into a lower gear than you intended. But i dont think that the ECU records that sort of thing anyways???

^^ There is a code for both over rev and over speed on most cars that I know of. So yes, they can tell if you have over revved. They should only deny warranty if it was determined that the over revving caused the issue. I am not sure, however if it logs the number of times it happened. If you drive around bouncing off the rev limiter all the time you a) need to learn how to drive and b) dont deserve warranty coverage anyway if it damages the car. But if it happens on accident once or twice just be honest if they ask you, cause they will find it out if they look for it.

I would believe it. It would be in the dealership's best interest to try to prove it is your fault for major issues. Not saying it is right, but if it is going to cost them a lot of money, they are going to try to fight it. That's just the way the world works.

Also, that is wierd that it logs the number of times you bounce off the rev limiter. I thought the ECU only had something like a 15 second memory. That way, if you get in an accident, they can check how fast you were going, if the airbags went off, if brakes were applied, seatbelts on, etc. But after 15 seconds, it loops back and overwrites what is already there. I am not sure if it is correct, but that is how I understood they worked.

^^ I dont know if there is a counter involved. But there is a code for those limits, at least on some cars. The codes that are set will stay as long as power is applied. It is also just as possible that there is a section of memory that certain codes are stored in. Not sure if that is the case here, but the manufacturer would not say if it i was. A simple peice of Flash could be used for it.

My dad just had a car in recently he told me about actually. It was in for a different issue, but while scanning it he found a code he not come accross before. He looked it up: Engine Overspeed Limit Exceeded. Come to find out... her hubby also drove the car occassionally But again, I dont know how that code is stored or how long it is kept. I doubt there is a counter to determine the number of times it is hit, but who knows really.

You want more power get the trd sc with the 12 month warranty and rep the trd stuff that way it will help toyota as a whole and make all their cars come with this same availability at a cheaper. The scion tc is the best car I've seen for 16 grand with all the things you get
