But there was a specific point this week when I knew it was getting out of hand... I was listening to the radio here and the DJ actually said something to the effect of "check out my myspace page!" and actually gave his account over the radio.

I kind of wanted to pull the car over and rip my stereo out and throw it in the street.

But I didn't. :)

Unfortunately my friends are forcing me into a myspace since our car club has a page and I guess its the only way to find out about anything. MEH Yea they are pretty pointless IMO.

Now before you throw stuff at me, hear me out. I'm severely hypocritical when it comes to MySpace. I hate the exposure the site has given to 14-year-olds, but at the same time, the convenience of finding just about everyone you know or knew from way back when is really cool.

I haven't talked to a majority of my high school friends in a good seven or so years since they've all moved away/got married and I'm still in our town. MySpace has helped me get in touch with people I haven't talked to in a long time. The majority of my friends list are those people who I've lost touch with and real life kinda gets in the way of them actually hopping a plane or picking up a phone.

I don't have a MySpace for a popularity status marker, and I agree with a lot of you that think MySpace is the breeding ground for people that don't know how to make a freakin' webpage. I've been coding HTML for almost eight years, so I know my way around Windows Notepad...and I like to think I have good taste on what a webpage should look like. This is just convenient for keeping me close to old friends I've lost touch with over time.

I won't use myspeck and refuse to go there. Most of the time the pages created there are among the top 10 ugliest sites available on the internet.

I do have a Myspace account - under an alias - that I don't bother to update or maintain in any way. The page does not have one bit of correct information on it in any of the specifics.

The reason I have it is so that I can look at other folks Myspace pages easily.

All mail to my account is caught by my mail filters and discarded - I do not respond to the numerous requests from others.

i use to not have one...but then my friends made me get one. its not that bad actaully. i met a lot of old friends from school that i hadnt talked to in years. and when ur bored, it makes time go by fast. u can express urself by putting your favorite music, pix, videos, etc... all u myspace haters dont like it because yall probably have no friends to add on ur myspace.

:clap: great point. If you don't use Myspace that's kool, if you do so what. That's why there's 50 trillion sites out there, cause everyone has their own taste and preferences. I use it, only for people that I actually know. I see many people on there with like 300+ people on their friends list. That says to me that they are on there for a friendlist popularity contest. Not my case, you will clearly see I have about 11 people on my list and know each and every one of them personally.

About the earlier comment about people should just pick up the phone and talk to the people they know. Well that's easier said then done sometimes. Especially when most people do have jobs to go to on a daily basis and some people they know, may not even live in the state they reside in. It's much easier to keep in contact through the means of e-mail than calling on a phone sometimes.

no one said it was a requirement, more or less a preference. Plus you can update your page with info. that you don't have to write out for everyone, they can just go on there and see.

MySpace is great for un-signed bands to communicate with fans, and to be discovered by others. It's also cool to find people that you've lost touch with and be able to talk to them again. However I can't make a case for all the stupid/immature reasons others use MySpace for.

I was going to bring up the music aspect of it also. It really is a good way for un-signed people to get discovered and/or develop a fan base.

sry, but it's amusing to me. some guy who made this chit up in his basement is going to be living the life (after he offers to be your first "contact" when you join the site....yes that is him).

I only got one cause all my friends harrassed me to get one i litterly saw an old friend and instead of asking for my # or my email they go whats your my space :| im like uuhhhh i dont have one of those

so i see most people either dont like myspace because its become too trendy and unstructured or simply use it as a tool to manage their they already know?

maybe the next step is to meet new people based on similar interests? just throwing out ideas...

that is always an option, but in doing that you also open the doors of your life for potential crazy internet drama with some loser who spends hours upon hours wandering the net looking to con and manipulate people. Not to say everyone online is like that....way back in the day I have come accross some really good people but I'm over that and I only care to chat with people that I actually know on there. I don't have time to sort through the riff raff. And the whole, "let me add you too my friend list because your cute" has become ridiculous and therefore I only add people I know.

Alot of people are against it, but I think its a great way to form communities, and network with people. I am in a band, so I get to meet LOTS of people from other bands in the area, and across the world, it's easier to set up shows, exchange dates, look up new bands, etc... Not to mention meet new people, and meet up with old people. I dont see what the big deal is.

SURE, it is one of the net's most visited sites, SURE, it sucks kids into their computer screen. People argue it dangerous meeting people, well, if you're a good parent, dont let your 12, 14 year old go out and meet people online, educate them and put trust into what you've taught them. I've met at least 5 people in person due to Myspace, some were local, and there was also a very special person nearly 3000 miles away.

And also, so what if the owner/ person who created myspace is rich? He's ____ing smart whether he knew it or not haha. Seriously, what other huge network of people is there? Look at all the advertisements on myspace! You can't be a large corporation and not even THINK about expanding and advertising through myspace, you're nearly gauranteed to have a successful ad.

Anyway, im not arguing, I'm just adding comments to what people always state. Theres always someone out there thats like "well... Im different from everyone else... I dont have one, therefore Im cooler and better"... (im exagerating), but seriously, its a great thing...

I read this article in Time magazine today about how multitasking and technology is breaking down traditional families and quality time spent together with friends and etc... It was pretty interesting...

I had one, and I deleted it.

I'm not against it, but I wasn't using it for anything that couldn't be accomplished via email/phone/text messaging. I was in a bunch of groups that I never looked at, I had a bunch of friends whose profiles I never looked at, and so far, email has been working just fine.

Mine is mainly for my boys in Georgia to check out pics of my whip and chat with them.. I enjoy it..
