Has anyone hard wired a V1 radar detector in their car? I did a search, and found nothing.....

Thanks!

I just used the wires that came with the V1 and connected them to the wires in the cubby hole LED. I have actually taken out the Cubby hole LED. I then ran the cable up and around the radion, inside the dash, and I have the V1 main unit sitting on my dash. I have the concealed Display mounted in my cubby hole with my boost gauge.

"LED"? I assume you mean the light in the little cubby ahead of the shifter?

Did it yesterday. I hooked up the hardwire kit to teh cig lighter cord, and ran the detector cord behind the dash and out through the glovebox (when in use). The remote display is mounted in the top left of the cubby. Totally stealth when the car is parked, as I just put the detector in the glovebox and close it. :D Best of all no drilling.

i hardwired it into the sunroof controls/harness... and mounted it right under/behind the rear view mirror. i hated having the wires hanging down.

i heard you mount it higher up for better Ka reception and lower down for better lidar detection... so i figure if i get lasered, its either a false alarm or i'm screwed, so i mounted it high.

You are correct about mounting it high for better radar reception. Plus the detector is slightly less noticeable "hidden" behind the rearview mirror.

How hard is it to tap in to the sunroof controls and where did you put the remote display? Your set up is what I would like to do, but wiring scares me.

I've been speeding alot lately, think I might get a radar detector, oh and I go $200 as a gift last week, so Its burning my pocket. So yeah pics of the stealth and behind rear view one!!!

its not hard to tap the sunroof controls. you just used the supplied t-tap and splice into the orange wire in the sunroof connector. and used the supplied ground to ground it on the chassis.

i originally tapped a 12v constant and the v1 stayed on all the time but the orange wire is ACC or something like that so v1 will shutoff and turn on along with your car.

pop off your dome light: pull down on side where buttons are located, rear is hooked on:

tap orange (ACC) wire from sunroof control for 12v and ground on chassis

voila!

Thank you sir, much appreciated.

I'm either going to do this or get one of those Escort Solo cordless deals.

i just got my valentine one in the mail. the thing is sweet. i'm gonna hardwire it in this weekend when i do interior lighting stuff. where is everyone mounting the concealed display thing? i don't want to mount it by the instrument panel b/c it seems like it might block some of the gauges. the other spot i'm considering is right above the stereo cover, except when the heat/ac is on, that might not be so good for the unit.

thx to integsrtite! I just hardwired my V1 to my tC.

Umm, if you hardwire it into the lights in that cubby hole, doesn't it only work when the headlights are on?? I guess if you leave the daytime running lights on all the time then its not a big deal.

I've got the Escort 8500 and I hardwired it into the cigarette lighter. Mounted above the rearview mirror, works great.

Well I clamped the T-tap to the sunroof orange wire, and just plug in the red wire from the V1 direct-wire kit. Grounded the black wire to a piece of metal nearby. thats it!

Yeah I hardwired it to the cubbyhole, and it does only turn on when the headlights are on, but I leave my headlights on all the time..

Do you have the remote display module? I thought about trying to hardwire it up there, but I have side airbags, and can't get the wire down the a-pillar for the remote display.

yea i have a remote display. I put it right in front of the guages on top of my steering wheel. I wired it down from the direct-wire module down the pillar to there.

i also have side airbags... so i didn't wana run any wires down the A-pillar. but uh... either way, i didn't get a concealed display... so nothin to wire!

Eiso, how is the reception with the V1 mounted up there and is the V1 visible from the outside? the place where i mounted it is way out in the open, so i put away the V1 everytime i park just to be safe.

Eiso

So far its pretty good...after my friend gave me some advices i reposition a little, i hope its better! Its still visible outside if you know there is one. But most ppl dont really notice.

How do you know other people don't notice it???? Me tinkin bout teese one also, nice ideal no!

How can you speed with the price of gas though....... has this device really saved you, I've never had a radar detector. I do smart speeding so I don't get caught (only speed in groups) but I have noticed this product advertised in mags forever now!!!

Eiso
03-07-2006, 04:41 PM
Well I dont really speed on highways, I think speeding over 60-65 is very dangerous. But sometimes, cop likes to hide along in those small roads where speed limit is 30, and sometimes I do 34-35 in them, and I dont wanna get caught by this little. It saved me a bunch of times.

PrettyniceB

Good point. That's the time when ya want to speed, when the speed limit is marked at -watch the beaurtiful scenary pace- when you got places to be driving around town. If that's what ya meant.

I think thats do-able, 05-RS1!!! If you have everything that come with the V1, there should be a long cord that can run around the pillar to get the power for the V1

The red lines are the plan. For a second (well a couple of days actually) I thought you were trying to tell me that the air freshner was a radar detector in desquise.

Valentine has the shortess " defeat RDD's and RDD's counteract" range. Should I get a valentine or that new STI one, it cost an awful lot.

u said you just got the new valentine, tell us a got away from a ticket story or post a pic of your install, is it stealthy or did you just stick it to the window like most?

Here is a pic to show how I have my V1 set up, unfortunately I lost my flat cord so I just used the curled one... Oh well, not a big deal for me.

Eiso, i wasnt planning to run it all the way up the pillar or anythin. i was wondering if there was anythin below the driver side pillar i could hardwire to. i was just going to find some wire and cut my curly cord and tap a straight wire to it and find somewhere to hardwire it down there or somethin.
