hummmmmm that doesnt look half bad hummmmmm............. i had a friends dad say "lets chop the top down on that car." he is building a car garage so i wanted to see what it would look like b4 i said anything (i hope he is not jokeing, i dont think he is) his face was serious
Believe me its an awesome mod, until you have to have glass made, thats about the time that all these projects get squashed. The compound curves of the front and rear glass makes it's very dificult and very pricey to make event with lexan or other glass substitute. So more power to ya, its worth the money, but then again doubling the cost of your car may not be worth the money... IMO
The 5 Axis xB was indeed chopped. The sides of the xB just look so much taller because of the combination of chopped top and wide body kit with skirts.
And Trikkoncepts is right to some degree on the glass. But there are a lot of tricks out there to avoid using replacement glass. Things like laying back the stock windshield and cutting down the stock rear glass can save you money. Or if you go the more traditional route, just be prepared to pay a good glass man what he is worth. The reality is that a good chop is all in the planning. Always remember, "there is more than one way to skin a cat."

As long as the chop is done right, you won't have to worry about getting the front or rear door windows, as they will simply sit lower in the door (if that makes any sense). But notice on the 5-Axis car, the rear door window is one piece, not two piece like on a normal xB. They may have just installed a non-moving window in there.
If you are really thinking about doing this, your best bet would be to contact 5-Axis to see if they will sell you the windows. They have already payed for the tooling costs. Make sure the windows are DOT-approved and tempered, because they may not be if the xB was only meant to be trailered from show to show.
I have spoken to five axis about doing my xB. They make their own glass, cost for the new glass on the xB, $11,000. It is an overly expensive project for an xB. The reason so many hot rods do it is because they mostly have flat glass windows and even back then were not tempered glass. It is possible and one of the most awesome mods .. but extremely expensive. About as expensive as importing the clear glass from japan for the xB.
Just not enough justification for us working folk ..

i personally am not a fan of the after. i was attracted the the xB because of it's shape, and chopping the top like that kinda makes it...less boxy. more sporty. i wouldn't do it if it was mine. (considering i even had the cash)
i always thought that the xb would look so much better with a little chop i mean the car has ridiculous headroom one of my friends is 6'3 and theres like 8 inches of extra headroom for him. i think it looks better and also would help with the aerodynamics and handling of the car. i know for those of you who've got the box up to 100 on a windy day knows what i'm talking about.

i don't drive 100. and what's wrong with lots of headroom, huh?

adds unnessary bulk and weight to the top of the car affecting the handling and speed, i love the box shape but i would rather have a little better handling and better aerodynamically based speed.
Headroom is nice but too much is no good, feels too much like an suv and its 4 or 5 inches of extra air that i will never touch. I dont know about you but the only time i raise my hands above my head in a car is to adjust the rearview mirror, sun visor or to flip the bird. and also when i raise both my hands in the air and drive with my feet but i only do that to impress the ladies :D

As I mentioned before, it cost us $7000 to make the first set of rear quarter windows. Now that everything is set up, a replacement set of windows is only $355.
