Default Foglights 05 VS. 06 WOW !

I just noticed lastnight the foglights on my landlords 06 are about 3 times brighter then my 05 xa,They look like projecter lights.Very nice lights ,they are brighter then the headlights......What is the latest word on a good light bulb replacement for the 05 Xa (9006 bulb).....im sure the 06 bulb is not a 9006 because its frigin bright !

I see piaa bulbs are $75 for 2,Are they brighter?

OPTIONS FOR A 9006 BULB PLEASE..........

I think that 9006 implies a size... not brightness. I haven't seen the '06 factory foglights. You sure that he doesn't have aftermarket bulbs in this foglight housing?!

There are several alternatives. You mentioned one, which is to replace the bulb with something brighter in color. You can look for foglights bulbs (9006) that have higher temperature, a higher #K. 6000K, for example, is white with a hint of blue. Keep in mind that the higher the K you go, the less road visibility you get.

Another option is projector kits. I don't know how many people do that to their foglights, but I'm sure it's possible. This is the most expensive option and requires some heavy modification.

The third option I've seen is HID kits. They basically replace your factory bulbs and have a ballast. They are supposed to be really bright! Without (much) lost of road visilibity.

I'm going with the third option once I find out what bulb sizes I need, and what color I want, and when I get some money...

Default The 06

I was just in the car........THE 06 IS WAY BRIGHTER THEN THE 05 (mine),when you turn them on,they light up the road 25 feet.....NICE LIGHTS, The car has 600 miles on it....scion bulbs from scion ,all scion stuff, hes done nothing to the lights on the car.

I was looking at the foglights today......When you look into the glass on my 05 you see a star like thing in front of the bulb, looks like some type of blocker between the glass and bulb,His 06 does not have this...you can see the bulb, and i bet all the light shines out because of that star thing being gone.

I dont want to touch his car and pull a bulb.......but they are as bright as the headlights, mine are no way near the brightness of the headlights

his foglights go out 25 feet..mine are only about 6 and not nearly as bright

the 06 lights are werth the price.

I want the bulbs !,what ever they are they might just plug in......maybe the dealer

A call to the parts counter will give you the answer...they may be able to tell if we can retrofit...

Default Just called

I just spoke to the local dealer about the bulbs (colchester toyota in connecticut)
and spoke with very helpfull guy named Aubrey.

He says there are 3 bulbs for the xa foglights, the 05Xa has a 51 watt bulb, and the 06Xa has a 55 watt bulb.
They are $40 each also.

They will plug in he syas.

Could it be that simple, only a 4 watt higher bulb, but im telling you the 06 foglights are unreal....3 times brighter then a 05

Also,i can see inside the 06 foglight ,theres no shield in front of the bulb like on my 05. (the shield looks like the shield on the headlights)

il try the bulbs next month

You might be on to something with the diffuser on our 05 lights.. How can you remove that? I wonder if it is part of the bulb....

do you still have to have your headlights on with the 06 model is my other question. i like just running the fog lights alone sometimes too.

Wonder how hard it is to get the bulbs out.

Let me know how it turns out, i'll jump on that bandwagon (the changing out the '05 foglight bulbs w/ the '06 bandwagon).

Went to wallmart........they have 9006 bulbs for foglights, clear, blue, and purple, but on the bulb socket it says 12v 51 watt.

looks like the trick is finding more then 51 watts without paying $80 at the dealer for 55 watt bulbs.

Don't do it!!! You will melt the small gauge wiring with the 80 watt bulbs! If you insist, get a BIG fire extinguisher.
The '05 and '06 bulbs are not interchangable. The '06 run a newer style of bulb that is H11.
H11's are 55w bulbs designed for use in low beam headlights. (replacing 9006's)
--H9's are new bulbs designed for use in high beam headlights. They are 65w. The two have different base keyways that are supposed to eliminate the interchanging of the two. They were designed too close in design and they can be easily interchanged. That means that H11er's can use H9's in their place and run a safe higher wattage bulb.

So....'06ers can get even brighter lights cheaply and safely!
