Chill with the caps. Search in this forum - you have to re-drill the holes on the mounting harness to get the radio door to close.
No, the steering wheel controls will not work unless you get a PAC SWI-X

thanks so much for your help man you had no idea how confused I was....as you can see I'm clueless about audio stuff but I still want my stereo to sound loud lol...I'm assuming you have the same head unit? how has it worked out for you...
Higher model... I have the 8017. Been working great.
Anybody put the PAC SWI X in them self? I am feeling lazy and don't want to try to figure out all the wiring myself, do you know which wires in the car go to which on the SWI, what/if any resistors to use, and did you use the IR or is there a way to connect it without the IR? If anybody can help with this I would be very appretiative.
Then I read the bright yellow piece of paper that came with the SWI X and... http://www.pac-audio.com/swixprogram...ehicles&ID=397
Still need to know if any one has it hooked up with out the IR

As far as I know, SWI X is only IR.
PAC-ALP is direct connect. But you should contact PAC to see if it works with the 7017.
Several months ago when i was looking into it, there was no interface even though Kenwood had added the leads to the unit.
