Default Breaking News: Conneticut Woman Hurt While Asleep at Wheel

Taken from the Connenticut Post
story here: http://www.connpost.com/policelog/ci_3528492

- ASLEEP AT WHEEL: A 27-year-old Fairfield motorist was seriously injured early Sunday after she fell asleep at the wheel on the Merritt Parkway, jumped the center divider and struck a tree, State Police said.

Kimberly Lange, of Benedict Avenue, was taken by AMR Ambulance to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport after suffering neck and back injuries, state police said.

Her condition was not immediately available, but a hospital spokesman said she had been moved from the intensive care unit.

Lange was driving a 2005 Scion coupe southbound in the right lane near exit 47 about 1:49 a.m. when she fell asleep and her car traveled across the left lane, jumped the center guard rail, struck a tree and rolled over onto its roof, state police said.

The Scion came to rest in the parkway's northbound right-hand lane and had heavy damage to its entire front-end and hood, state police said. Lange was charged with reckless driving, state police said.

Hope she's ok...

I'll bet that woke her up in a quick hurry. I wonder if the airbags went off. It seems they are kind of hit and miss from the accidents that have been posted on this site.

p2filz thats a very messed up thing to say.. Would you say that if it was your mom or some other family member?? I doubt it.. Granted she was wrong for driving while tired but like you never tried to make it home despite the fact that you are just a little tired, well your young yet Im sure at some point in life you will..

I hope she is ok, glad to hear it wasnt fatal..

Not really, the only complaints I have seen of them not going off have been inccorrect, meaning they should not have gone off. Hitting a deer, getting rear ended area couple of those. You dont want them going off for any old collision. The only one I would even question was the guy who was sideswiped and the side bags did not deploy, but if it was a scraping type of hit then they shouldnt have gone off then either. You have to really know what type of collision and deceleration were involvled to know if they should have.

But anyway, I hope she is ok. Sounds like it was a pretty nasty wreck.

Yea, I saw the thread where the guy got sideswiped. That is why I am wondering if the bags went off or which ones went off.

put it this way
if she had hit you, caused damage to you/your vehicle becuz she fell asleep, you'd still feel that charges should not be brought upon her??

^^ very true..

As much as I wouldnt want to suffer the punishment for it, I would take beings the fact it was ultimately my decision to drive and my fault the accident happened to begin with..
