this is for those who have actually done it:

what has been your experience with heating your springs to have them settle lower? i've heard that it ruins the ride quality. ive also heard that it does not affect ride quality.

after u heat springs, the lose there factory 'temper' so they
slowly will sag.

if you value your life, you will NOT do this, and you will NOT tell anyone to do this.

Have you seen the low cars/trucks cruising down the road with everyone inside bouncing around and there heads going like bobblehead dolls. Those are the people that heat their springs. You can do it just to lower the car a bit but it's difficult to get it even and your will more than likely lose ride quality and performance.

heating can cause spring steel to change properties, and actually SNAP..

which translates into your box flipping or rolling..

if u heat the springs, your an idiot. the spring will remain dropped for a lil while and thenjust start to and continue to sag. my friend did it on his civic, and regreted it about 2 weeks later.

bottom line man, please don't heat your springs. its in your best
interest. cutting it isn't as bad, BUT STILL!

anyways, think about the rear, if they become too short
or u cut them too short, they'll fall outta the car and then u're gonna be doing
donuts on the freeway.

isnt even cutting the stock ones kind of dangerous because to some degree they get heated up during the cutting?

also perhaps thats why we havent seen aftermarket springs with a 3inch drop? too low and like joey said you'll be doing donuts on the freeway. or am i off base on this one?

Heating springs very bad Idea. A friend of mine did this to his 64 Impala after I told him not to and let me tell you the spring finally copresses onto itself no gap between coils and you loose all suspension travel, thus making the car handle poorly plus causing tons of overster. The best way is to cut them, not with a blow tourch. The spring will still heat up but not to the point of cousing metal fatige. I recomend you cut half a coil to a coil and that is it. In general though I would not heat them or cut them, get a boday kit and you will have that low look and still have the properties of what a spring is supose to do in turning and takeing bumps etc. If the body kit isn't the way you want to go to get low try some good coil overs.

i was just getting tired of my fender gap cuz it seems to get bigger everyday (i know, its only in my head). i have 15s on right now and will be getting 18s next week so my first thought was DAMN... now my xbs gonna be HIGHER, even though my fender gap would pretty much be gone.

oh well.

Look into getting some springs from the aftermarket. I have the Tein H series in mine, lowered it just enough, and made the right sooo much better.

i have the tanabe df210 springs but it didnt lower as much as i had hoped for. its been 3 months and they havent really settled much. stock, i could fist the wheel gap in the back. and now i can still stick 3 fingers in there :lol:

no biggie.. once the 18s go on, it'll be ok. hopefully.

your car is already looking good. i dont know why you wanted to lower it more. you're not afraid of scrapes?
if you really wanted it low low, then bag it.

when i say i wanna get lower, im not really thinking about scraping. when i do consider it, id rather stay the height im at. but since ive only scraped twice (once was with a gargantuan individual in my passenger seat and a couple in the back, the other was my own carelessness), i dont worry bout it too much.

I know that Darrell (BlueNRG) has been running on heated springs for over a year (not sure if he changed it yet or not)..but it's been ok so far.

Back in the day a lot of people used to do this but as mentioned in time the car will get lower and lower due to sagging.

It's best not to do it although I know some people who has heated up their springs on different cars and not had any problems...most of them ended up changing them out to coil overs anyways.

You have little to no control of the amount dropped, none of your corners will be the same height, unless you heat them so much that you're on the bump stops, in that case take the springs out as they will fall out on their own anyway. I can't recommend enough for people to not use this method of lowering. Buy springs somewhere. I don't care if its from me or not, just do it right.

well like i said... i do have springs. my car's already lowered. its just sometimes i get greedy and wanna get even lower without having to spend money on coilovers or bags. i never seriously considered heating my springs but was just curious about anyone's experiences. all in all, im fine with my xbs height. just not the fender gap but, again, that will be taken care of soon.
