Who of you plan on tinting your tC? If you plan on tinting, what percentage, and what brand do you think would be good? I've read that 20% would look good all around.
I've been reading that 3M, Llumar and SolarGard are good brand of tint? But is it true, or tint is just tint? What else should i know about tint? like reflection or whatever?
Ok thanks for all the feedback again. I'm enjoying the hunt for stuff for the tC i dont even have yet haha :P

I'm also thinking tint for practical reasons:
1: Block UV rays and keep the car cooler
2: cut down on people (cops) noticing the amount of blinking gadgets I have inside while driving
I've never had tint before so this will be an experience.

the tint is regulated by state laws... for Louisiana the law has different numbers that are permitted depending on the window.... so I have 35% on my driver/passenger doors, something like43% on my back door windows and 50% for the back glass...

I have 35% on the front w/ a 5% strip across the front windshield. Everything seems to match nicely. For me, there was really no need to tint the rear over again. Check my profile. I live in NY and I am quite sure that is illegal, but I have not been stopped yet...knock on wood

Looks like i might be getting 20% all around, and a 5% on the windshield. I think that would look cool, but then again, i have to see what kind of tint, like titanium, charcol blah blah.
any info on this? the Brand and color of Tint? and most importantly the Cost. How much should one expect to pay to have tint installed for the tC, which is 5 windows is it :?:

I have 20% on my front windows. Like scionmilktruck said tinting your front windows In NY is illegal but I really don't care. 20% matches the factory tint on the XB (Even though they are 2 completely different ways of tinting - Stock XB is smoked glass the front windows are film) U can tell the difference from the inside but not from the outside.
As far as pricing and brand....the place I went used Llumar and they charged $100 for both windows. They warranty them for lifetime except if you use Windex....
Hope that helps!

As far as the cop giving you a ticket he was really being an a-hole. In my previous car I was pulled over for the same reason even though mine were 20% but the cop just gave me one of thos "Fix it By 2 morrow before sundown and you wount get a ticket" speach....again...Im sorry! That really sucks!

Thanks for the quick replies. Ok so i should expect about $150 to tint all, that being 5 windows?, the windows on the tC along with the 4 inches of the windshield?
And wow, $200 is a lot for a ticket, that does suck. I would think they would give you a fix-it, not a ticket. hopefully LAPD and SDPD have better things to worry about than my illegal tint haha.
Now, for those that live in LA or SD, can you recommend a place to get Tint. Specifically Llumar, since i've read good things about it. ok thanks again.

I'll be tinting my tC's front windows just like my corolla, front lighter than the back. A really good place to get it tinted in the L.A. area, (san pedro to be exact) is Miami's. they have a guy come out to the place. he's really good and i think he still does it all by hand instead of a machine cutting it all out. Also theres 5 Star tinting. Its on PCH in torrance.

what really sucks is when the cops get you for illegal tint and make you peal it off right then & there. When I was in Cali visiting a friend who went to UCLA we got pulled over. Turns out in California it is ILLEGAL to have the front windows tinted AT ALL, unless they come that way from the factory.
So we were forced to pull the tint off with a razor blade and then the officer hit my friend with the $195 ticket. Tint at your own risk.

Wha??? Man that cop must have been having a bad day. Yes here in CA it's illigal...but your friend could have said that he'd rather get a fix-it ticket and have a "professional" talke it off.
On my way up north with my b/f we got pulled over for window tint (after going 120 the whole way :D ) and he got a fix-it ticket...cost him $25 but oh well. The cop then pulled away before we did, which their not supposed to, and then pulled someone else over for window tint down the road.
(If you get pulled over and the cop tells you to roll your windows up to see if you have tint, you don't have to, but they wont be happy they didnt trick you)

For you guys saying that the cops are being dicks, they aren't the ones writing the laws. No, they don't HAVE to enforce them, and if you have your windows down, I don't really see a problem with having tint...
However, the laws are in place for the cops safety. They want to be able to see what's in the car when they approach it. That's why the law is in place. It's not because they don't want your car to look nice :-/
I HATE the fact that I can't tint my windows, and if I knowingly tinted my windows against the law, I sure as hell am not going to complain if I get a ticket for it. Grow up guys.

The place that I had my tint done at in NY was willing to give this other guy who had just gotten a ticket a receipt that said that they had removed the tint. Of course, they did not remove the tint, but he was able to submit that to the courts to get his ticket waived. His situation was different because he had a typical that blended in. However, when your dealing with a car like the Scion XB, that sticks out like a midget on a pocket bike  (By the way did anyone peep that at Englishtown, NJ  ) that a different story.

I can't remember what percentage my tints are, but they were the next darkest to limo and I have it on all side and rear windows..(7 in all: Audi A4)...which is illegal in michigan...I live just outside of detroit and I think the cops have bigger problems to deal with then tints, I haven't been pulled over in the last year and a half that I have had them.
One thing I would like to point out is.....this is done more often then people think....: If you come up with a decent excuse that your eyes are overly sensitive, your doctor may write you a note saying they recommend you have tinted windows (a few friends of mine have done this and my girlfriend is about to). This has worked too, just keep it in your car and hand it over to the cop, if he pulls you over for it.
I know of some people that actually have limo tint all the way around INCLUDING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD......of course its a yellow lambo.....and his name is Herman Moore (old receiver from the lions)

70% all around is what's legal in NY. Unless you have an SUV, then limo tint is legal in the rear. Here's the thing.. the xB isn't an SUV, so it's illegal anyway :) Might as well go all the way!

Definitely get it profesionally done!!! If you get dust, streaks, or have other problems when you do it yourself, you'll have to start all over, and clean it up and you might just settle for half-@ss to not have to redo it. If you get it professionally done you can tell them to redo it if it isn't done perfectly. Make sure you go to a legit place that has a guarantee in case you notice problems later. Most chains have lifetime of the car guarantees.
It usually takes a few weeks before the minor bubbles and streaks go away.
I wasn't aware that front windows couldn't be tinted here in California. I got 45% on my Camry's sides, and 35% on the back. I think the visibility is cut-down significantly in the back because it's so dark. I don't see how people can get limo tint in the back. It's too dark to see out of. I think it's best to get metallic tint. It reflects heat better and looks more like a natural glass reflection than cop-attracting darkness.[/img]

Does anyone have any pictures of Tinted cars with the Percentage rating. I went to a local tint shop, and i saw that 20% Llumar tint, and it didn't really look as dark as some made it out to be. Now the 5% looks pretty dark, but would that look nice on a black tC, also how would visability be then? But yah, just wondering if some of you can post pics of tinted cars with the percentage so i can get an idea what would look nice on a black tC.

Just for the record, the CA tint law on that site is WAY out of date, 1987!!!!. I have my 1990 LS400 tinted 50% front, 5% backs, and none on the windshield.
The current law limits a 4" on the windshield, 70% on the front sides, and any tint on the rears.

I wish NJ law didn't prohibit tint on the driver's and passenger's side windows. My previous car was a 1993 BMW 325is and whenever I got pulled over, they'd cite me for having tint on both my driver's and passenger's side windows. Plus it wouldn't make much sense to just tint the two rear quarter panels.. that would look silly. I can live with the s/c, intake, exhaust, and other mods.
