With all due respect, why in the ____ would you want running boards on an xB?

Bsbee:

My wife is 100% handicapped, but she can stand if I hold her up. She is to short for me to place her in my xB, so I have to lift her.
We are in our 70's, I can not lift as I once did.

I have made a make shift step to get her in. But that is stored in the back of car. I have to retrieve it every time.
With the running board its always there.

Now is it okay if I press on?

Hey Eddy,

I have never heard of any running boards for the xB but I will keep my eyes open and look online for something that might work for you.

Good luck in your search and I will email you if I find something.

Hi Eddy,

I wish you lived in California or nearby as I work at a steel fabrication company and we could certainly rig something nice up for you and your wife. I will let you know what I come up with...

Take care,
Rick

Might I suggest lowering your xB so the lift isn't as high?

No offence, but the xB isn't the kind of car that people are gonna make running boards for. Maybe you should have looked into a van.

TRDBox: Good idea, I have thought about that. But the folks here in Florida where I live. Usually when a car is lowered frant and back, they do not seem to get the front wheels aligned. So, one is looking at buying new tires every so often, depending on how much one drives

Lower the box, if you don't slam it get some Tanabe nf210's the ride is still decent and it lowers it enough to make a difference!!

No, I lowered my xB and the alignment was unaffected.

Yes it is a good idea to get your alignment checked afterwards though. Just have a reputable shop do the lowering for you and make sure they will do the alignment as well.

The down side to lowering the car is the ride does get slightly rougher.

All i meant was that the Xb is so low to begin with. I don't know if your wife is in a wheelchair but i have seen a rig where the back hatch opens and a automatic ramp comes out for a wheelchair. However, i assume you want her to ride in the front seat so that may not work. In that case lowering it would be a good option. I have the TRD springs installed by the dealer and they work nicely giving it about a 2 inch drop. Good luck.

Good quality springs with a 2' drop sounds like the way to go...I have the Gold-Line's and love them...The ride is better now than it was stock, but I am running 17 inch rims...GL...By the way, when lowering with just springs I don't think you need an alighnment...

woBsBox, the ramp you speak of is about 7 grand. There is another unit "sit n lift" it costs about 5 grand.
My insurance will not pay for any of those, but they did purchase a electric wheel chair.
Currently I am using one of stools about 10" tall, I cut about 3 or 4" off the bottom of the legs and it works but a pain to retrive and put back.
Appears I will stay with that set up for now.
Thanks guys,,for all the advice

Or you could look into airbags. They will drop your xB's frame to the ground and raise itself back up to stocks height at the push of a button.

Hmm, Air bags as a rule espand, meaning the car will raise! Would make more sense to let the air out of the tries on the passenger side, then reinflate.

do they make the sit and lift for the scion specifically or is it a universal design
if you want the sit and lift then maybe you could start a fund raiser or something
i think its awesome that the "elderly" are getting hooked on the scion

as for running boards...
if they were to be usefull, they would stick out too far for normal driving. or for regular people to step over getting in and out.

you might want something retractable, check out an RV shop. they have some trick steps that fold in when you close the door....
