Default Parking Brake Question {ed.}

I've noticed this since I had 5k maintenence done on my car....

The parking break engages by the 2nd or 3rd click and the light on the dash comes up, but if I pull the handle any further than the 3rd (and sometimes even on the 3rd) click, my rear wheels squeak like hell when I begin getting out of the car.

I've experimented, and if I pull the brake just far enough for it to catch then it doesn't squeak when I get out. If I pull it all the way up, it always squeaks.

Its not a huge concern to me, since I drive an auto and seldomly park on a hill... but I wonder if there is a problem with the cable being TOO taught or with the parking brakes themselves.

This squeak sounds like a 350+ lb fella is getting out of my car and the suspension is screaming "THANK YOU!!!!"

I ran a search but all I really uncovered was threads telling me how to tighten the cable.

{subject line edited - changed 'break' to 'brake' --Tomas}

Well, I'm over 10k now and its still there.

But I agree with you, at 5k the only thing they should have done is change the oil and rotate the tires. If they did, in fact, mess with the brakes then they didn't mention it directly.

if you drive an auto, theres no need whatsoever to use the parking brake.
