Default Celica Engine Swap?

Ok, is this even possible? Swapping my little echo engine for a newer celica engine is an idea that me and a buddy have been looking into... Has anybody heard of this? Any other engine ideas?

from what I was told by chris rado the 3sgte bolted right up to the xB trans...

If that is true, i don't know if you want to go that route, especially if you need to emissions the car. I don't recall toyota making an ODBII 3sgte set up.

I have no idea bout Toyota, but the bell housings on GM transmissions are almost all the same. Almost any motor can mate to almost any transmission.

Now, even if it's different, I'm sure an aluminum adapter plate could be made to mate the Celica motor to the Xb trans.

As for everything else to get it to work.. no idea. You might want to see just how many of the xb's sensors could be adapted to that motor, or go with a totally independant engine management setup.

all i know is they put a k20 swap in to a fit with 6 speed and a charger that car is going to move think of a turbo on a gts all wheel drive, it could happen but just the swap would be worth it..like a gsr in a hatch..

the AWD Alltrac gear just slows you down in straight lines. I had a MR2 MKII that was a full swap over with the alltrac. Took a lot of fab work, a lot of time, a lot of money and when it was all said and done, it was heavier and slower than it was as a RWD - but it would tear a canyon road to shreds. Only alltrac MR2 that I think ever existed. Using all that gear in an xB would probably be 2x the time, 2x the money and 2x the work, and also would probably be the only one ever made.

I think a better swap idea maybe the VVTL-i motor from the corolla XRS. That thing is wicked fast from the factory. I think the motor and 6 speed tranny may swap in no problem. I installed an exhaust system on one here in the shop and it is setup just like the 1nz with the intake on the front and exhaust in the back.

Default Cost comparison...?

If I'm understanding correctly...

An engine swap would cost close to the same as adding a Turbo or SC to the stock xA/xB engine (1NZ-FE)???

Key Technical Specs
Standard Engine
1.8L I4
Standard Transmission
6 Speed Manual
Cylinders
4
Horsepower @ RPM
164@7600
Torque @ RPM
125@4400 (foot/lbs)

That would be a lot of fun in an xB... 7600RPM redline

It would seem the potential to swap for the celica/corolla engine & then SC/Turbo IT would create a friggin moster of a car.

I'm lookin into SC/Turbo for my xA now & it would make more sense for me to spend that kind of bank on an engine swap (if it's a comparable price). Being that the BASE Hp/Tq of the new engine would rival the ADDED ON power of the SC/Turbo with the 1NZ-FE. Seems the SC/Turbo jump would pretty much be the end all for the STOCK xA/xB engine...maybe I'm dreaming too big though. (factor in a nitrous set up & it would get too silly)

I don't know how many of you know about the VVTL-i motor, but it has 2 lobes on each cam for intake and exhaust. When it hits a certain RPM the computer pushes the rocker arms over to the second lobe on the cam using oil pressure. It sounds very complex, and I have never been inside one so it may be. I drove the car after I put the exhuast on it, and when it comes up on the lift change program it is like a NOS button was hit. If you keep it above the 6200 point where the lift change happens it screams very quickly to its speed limit just over 110 mph. I didn't have a chance to put my gtech in this car, but I wish I had. I regularly watch ebay for one of these motors with tranny and ECU to put in my xB.
