So I got some aftermarket bulbs for my xA...I put them in...and I discovered something i had never really noticed before. There are 2 bulbs in the xA headlight. There is the normal one...and a smaller one in the inside corner.

So now i have a purpley headlight with the yellowy stock bulb just below to the inside of it....and i hate it!

You can see a pic of what i'm talking about in my profile.

Does anyone know what size / type bulb that little inside one is? Also does anyone know how to get to it? I didn't notice it when i was changing the main bulbs....but then again I didn't look around a lot...it was pretty tight in there.

I'm not sure what type of bulb it is, but I am fairly certain that you need to take off the front bumper in order to change it. I put HID's in my car, so now it's a totally different color. I looked through the owner's manual, and it states to take the car into a Toyota Service place to get that bulbs changed.

I'm gonna change the bulbs soon. It really isn't that hard to take the bumper off. I think it's a total of 8 screws that is hold it on the car.

Thanks for your help!

It is bulb type 194....i got purple ones from Pep Boys this weekend. These are actually easier to install than the headlight bulbs.

The purple is much darker than my headlights...but it is at least in the same color spectrum as my headlights.

How do you put HID's in your car? I will have a Xa in less than two weeks and that is something that I would really like to do. I am not overly mechanicly inclined, so I might have to find a local place to put them in.

So how did you access the bulbs? Did you have to pull the bumper off?

I didn't have to take the bumper off. You can get to them from under the hood....they are below and to the inside of the main bulbs, and they have a thick black wire coming out from them.

You know what might give the headlights an HID like look is get a bright white headlight bulb and than put a blue bulb in inside corner spot. Might make them look like HIDs sort of if you were so inclined.

sorry for the late months reply. i just got some HID lights also for my scion xa. Just a quick question for the people that did change the bulbs for the headlights. is it required to take the grill and front bumper off? i was observing the placements and it looks like i need to.. just wondering if anyone had the same idea, thanks.

you DONT need to take the bumper off to replace those little lights, they are 194's, and they are at the end of wrapped wires plugging into the corner of the headlight, just twist and pull out, very easy

you also DONT need to take the bumper off to replace the headlight bulbs themselves, it is a tight squeez on the drivers side, so if you cant do it, take the battery out, but dont go through the trouble of taking the bumper off, i dont think it would help much

i have silverstars for bulbs, and blue accent bulbs in the corners, they really look great, nice and bright and no yellow light on the front
