View Full Version : Complimentary Oil Change
BlueBox 08-29-2003, 10:39 PM I'm nearing the 3000 miles mark, and want to get my oil change soon. It is my understanding that all Scion owners are entitled to complimentary first 3 oil changes.
There have been issues as to when a dealer will provide the service on the scion. some dealers have said that the free oil change can be serviced only upon 5000miles (interval thereof). And other dealers have told me that they can perform it at 3000 miles. Finally, a dealer is Garden Grove told me that they can perform the service even before 3000miles.
What's up with all the discrepancies as to when the free oil change can be serviced?
This proves to me that all dealer service departments are not equal and don't know crap about their own services...
Aztec 08-29-2003, 10:43 PM i just got my oil changed today at 3,174 miles on my xb and went to Irvine Toyota and there was no problem free car wash :) and i bought da car at longo :)
sciontific 08-30-2003, 12:58 AM To confuse things even more, the manual states that, depending on your driving conditions, you can either go 5,000 or 7,500 miles between oil changes, with maintainance schedule printed at those intervals. But I would imagine the dealer would be able to change your oil outside of those miles, regardless of what the vouchers say, if you ask nicely.
Djuan 08-30-2003, 01:57 AM Should go to Longo and do it, you could kick back at their huge place and their huge Starbucks in style...
chrslittlebox 08-30-2003, 06:22 AM I got my oil changed at a little over 1500 miles with no problem...dealer stated that you can use the 3 oil changes anytime, they don't have to be used consecutively...he added that the best is every 5000 miles because where I live theres a lot of dust and wind. But like you said, maybe it is up to the dealer themselves. I got mine done at Salinas Toyota
PSyCHo-RaGe 08-30-2003, 06:53 AM In the owners manual it states the oil changes may be performed at anytime, so if the dealer is telling you something else, let the know this.
monkeychopkick 09-17-2003, 05:55 AM Anyone change their oil at 7500 instead of 5000?

nacy333 09-17-2003, 06:03 AM I got my 2 oil changes done at 3500 and 8000. It doesnt have to be right on the dot, you can go anytime you want to with as many miles - though you *should* change it at least at every 5k miles.
I may do the 7500 oil change interval .. or maybe not. I got the free oil change done at Roseville Scion at 2208 miles and yes you can get it done before the interval at whenever you'd like. 1000 miles after your last oil change if you want. Then I switched to syn at 4500. I'm at 7200 miles now and probably not going to change the oil until it hits 10000 miles or maybe even longer. we'll see
DibujoB 09-17-2003, 08:14 AM According to Toyota, if you don't frequently off road, or make trips of less than 5 miles in sub-zero or freezing weather you can get away with the 7500 mile interval. I'd still suggest the 5,000 interval, at least that's what I tell my customers.
As far as I know, the 3 complimentary oil changes are redeemable any time. Just show the stamps to the service manager at the dealership (they're located in the book called Scheduled Maintanance guide.
hope that helps

JDMxB 10-09-2003, 08:49 AM Did any of you guys who did the complimentary oil changes have to set up an appointment, or did you just show up?
Sgt_Scion 10-09-2003, 04:16 PM i just showed up at power in irvine.
xB_ey 10-09-2003, 05:25 PM some, if not most, toyota service depts have an "express lube" service...thats where they will usually put your car through for the oil change.
out here in Tracy (north. cali/central valley), i waited about 45 minutes with no appointment. it was a monday, though. no coupons and didn't have to "educate" them about it...they already knew...and the service was great!!!
forgot something...while i waited for my oil change...i hung out with two of the scion specialists. theyve got desktop computers hooked up to the internet, and i introduced them to SCIONLIFE. i thought it was interesting that they had never heard of it before.

Most salespeople view the internet only as a medium through which they can get prospects, who they can then lure to the dealership for their conventional treatment.
I was very disappointed by the number of salesmen (even the "internet specialists") who refused to deal with me via email. It probably has something to do with the fact that their statements are recorded in email.
